DJ to declare

Even though everyone else has said it, I will say it too. Was hoping he would stay and take a good run at the NC, but wish him all the best and say thanks for all of his contributions on and off the court. DJ is one of the best representatives our proud University has ever produced.

Say hello to J'Covan Brown!

Yes this is a sad day, but next year I expect our guard situation to be much better than this year.

This year DJ was playing basically the entire game, and his lack of size and inability to guard his position well really affected us against bigger, physical teams.

Next season, we actually have a depth chart at PG, with Mason, Brown, and Dogus all playing PG. I know that Brown and Mason can score as well, so they can play some SG when AJ is resting. We will be much more versatile even without one of the best PG's ever at UT leaving.

There's really no reason why we shouldn't be in the preseason top 10 even with DJ gone. We're still going to be damn good as long as Rick Barnes is our coach.

As of today he has not begun to separate from the team. He went to practice with the other guys. Unless he is a sadist for a Rick Barnes/Todd Wright conditioning and practice, he would not show up, right? I have a feeling he will do everything by the book until the very second he knows for a fact he will go pro and then sign an agent.

He won't do anything dicey or risky. He is not a flare or show-off either so we'll just have to see. Great young man, soft spoken, respectful. A true class act no matter how you want to look at it. You'll be missed but watched on tv just like the seeming hordes of other Longhorns making an impact on the Association.

Some of the same arguments some of you have for DJ not being able to succeed in the NBA are the same that the Chris Paul detractors had.

Im not saying he will be as good as CP3, but he has a lot of the same attributes that CP3 has.

He is a great floor general with great vision and rarely makes a bad decision. He has a good shot that will get better. (CP3 was about the same level of outside shooter when he came out) He has great ability to get to the rim and make others on the team better.

He may not have the athleticism of Paul but neither does Deron Williams or Nash or any other PG in the league. Hell, Kidd wasnt an elite athlete.

He wont win ROY due to the strength of this year class. But on the right team i could easily see DJ as a top 5 PG w/i 5 years especiallyconsidering how intelligent of a player he is.

Really, really happy for DJ - this guy has been through so much and he has done so with a lot of integrity and grit. As another poster said...it's bittersweet. But I'm loving that we'll have another UT Longhorn to keep track of in the NBA...awesome....

It was fun watching his career, i.e. 2 seasons, at UT. Wish I could watch a team gel for 3-4 years but I guess this is just the current state of CB. Good luck DJ.

J Kidd is not an elite level athlete, but he's like 6'5'' so he doesn't have to be- he has size.

It's really hard to make it in the Association if you lack size and elite level athleticism. I hope DJ makes it and makes it big. Were I him I'd have probably gone pro right now too- as I don't think there is anything left for him to show or prove at the college level and he's going to get a 7 figure payday. No hard feelings and all the good luck wishes in the world.

Love DJ and wish him the best. Fantastic player.

When the dream is right there you have to reach out and take it.
