Controversial opinions

SN,

It is hard to beat. Time was when I would have argued that Floyd's was better, but the last couple of trips to Floyd's when the wayward coonass wasn't walking around in shorts and his golf shoes, the redfish and red snapper were not edible. In fact on one trip, I needed a steak knife to cut the fish. (That hurts to say because I've been friends with Floyd for over forty years.)

Of all the seafood restaurants in Texas, I would submit that none has maintained its consistency of excellence as well as Gaido's.

Christies in Houston?

I hear from everyone that Christies is really good. I haven't been since he died several years ago. I do know that his cousin who owns The Schooner in Nederland has the best seafood gumbo in the country; yes, better than Brennan's

And my favorite controversial opinion that has gotten me into trouble here, Farrah Fawcett was not hot. I'm not saying she was ugly - just saying she wasn't hot.

Rudy's and Bill Miler BBQ both suck.

Breakfast burritos are gross.

Shiner Bock sucks.
Agreed.

It's just an oversized breakfast taco, so what's your beef here?

Agreed with the following stipulation: it sucks compared to what it used to be.

Shiner's mass production requires certain quality trade-offs, and going to malt syrup extract was one of them, and in my opinion, the most fatal. It's still a so-so bock-style beer, but it can't hold a candle to traditionally brewed German Bocks. However, with that said, Shiner Bock is still miles ahead of Ziegenbock. That stuff is ***-nasty. And not cute chick ***, but hairy, sweaty, fat dude ***.

Agree that it used to be better than it is (such as in the mid'90s).

Agree that it's better than Ziegenbock, which qualifies as cheap redneck beer. However, the mass production excuse is ********. Do you think Shiner outproduces big German breweries like Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr, or Augustiner? Of course not, but those breweries put Shiner to shame. It's not the mass production that messes up Shiner. It's a conscious decision to diminish quality to cut costs. By the way, lest anyone think I'm holding Shiner to too high of a standard, those aren't high-end Bavarian breweries. They're good, but you can find better - Ettaler, Ayinger, Andechs, and several others.

Rudy's is quality meat, and usually very tender. Agree with Vol, it ain't the best, but really good to grab on the go and much better than some older more established places. Rudy's side dishes suck. Definitely does not deserve to be put in same category with the ptomain palace, aka Bill Miller's.

To be clear, tacos are good. Meat, salsa, cheese, cilantro, etc. in a tortilla (flour or corn) are good. Breakfast tacos are gross. If you want a taco for breakfast, just have a regular taco for breakfast. You won't get shot for that.

Do you like breakfast? Eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, etc... yes?

But put a delicious corn- or flour-based wrapper around that goodness and now you've got an issue? Just admit that you hate tortillas and let's move on.

Maybe he was traumatized by something that happened in Lubbock as a kid. Counseling can be effective.

Wives do not believe a task is done unless they tell you to do it then watch you do it.

Exhibit 1: my wife has literally stopped me in the middle of a task to tell me to do something that I'm in the process of doing.

Exhibit 2: we were leaving on a trip of few days ago, as we're driving out of the driveway she says "aren't you going to have to take your golf clubs out of the car to fit all the luggage?" 2 things, she had to walk around my golf clubs to lock the mud room door and secondly, we were driving out of the driveway....

Similarly, the car is packed perfectly with bags but then someone needs something out of their bag as you are about to jump in the car and go.

The breakfast parts all mixed together in a flour tortilla does look “gross” on some level. However the flavor of it all at once is hard to match. Sort of depends on how you look at it.

I did a pretty job with my previous opinion about the Beatles. Here's another doozy.

Memorial Day is a farce because in my whole life time and beyond the US military hasn't protected my freedom AT ALL. They have carried out the imperial plans of fascists in charge of the US government. They don't defend me. They expand the political influence of the Federal government in foreign countries. :smile1::smokin:

I missed this reply earlier. For starters, I don't like eggs as a primary food. They're useful in cooking, but I don't want to taste them. They taste nasty, and they smell even worse. I do like potatoes, sausage, and bacon, but they just don't belong in a tortilla.

How old are you?

Agee on the Capital Grille Coconut Cream Pie. Order it without the shaved coconut on top, an insider trick.

There is an awful lot of sand on earth and I think we don't have enough public education and discussion about all this sand

Sleeping late is not lazy
going to bed early is lazy
stay up

I have no problem with staying up late so long as I don't have to get up early. I used to haggle with the wife about this. She's a "night owl" who likes to stay up until 2:00 a.m. (even if she actually zonked out on the couch at 11:30). Early on, it was fine, because of we could sleep until noon or later on Saturdays.

Then she had a baby in 2014. He wasn't going to let us sleep in even on weekends, but it was very hard to break her of the 2:00 a.m. habit. Going to bed at 2:00 when a baby is waking you up at 6:30 is brutal. He's 8 now, so he can entertain himself if he gets up early, but eventually he's going to knock on the door and ask, "are you all ok in there?"
