Conflicted at a Visceral Level

Herman is a prick. He could win the National Championship this year which would make him a National Championship Prick. He is who he is - win or lose.

I don't think TH will ever win an NC. Don't believe he will get closer than he was 2 years ago when he managed to lose 3 conference and 1 CCG. He has won 3 bowls so far while here, I'll give him that.

Your anger is misplaced, but I don’t expect you to understand or care.

I beg your bloody pardon! No, I understood him very well. And just who are you to chastise me with the statement above? Explain you self. Where should my anger or disgust be placed? What do I not understand? What is it I do not care about? Or were you just trying to be condescending to feel good about yourself?

I’m sorry my comment seemed condescending. But I’ve been reading a lot of posts on these boards since the BLM movement started. And most of you guys have directed your anger at the players and Herman. But it sure seems to me that you guys are making little effort to understand why the players are upset, and little to address the issue at hand: that people of color still face systemic racism in this country, especially at the hands of law enforcement. You’ve denied the existence of white privilege and mocked the few of us who have tried to explain it. Maybe not you personally — I can’t remember all the posters who did and I’m too tired to go back and look.

That's a better explanation and acceptable. Yes racism is a problem. My wife is native american and hispanic, so is my daughter and two sons with a dose of nordic blood they got from me. We also have a young man who has a family but we treat as a son who is black. So yes, I'm sensitive to that. Thank you for the response and have a good night and also a good rest of the weekend.

Understand your feelings duke but think you’re in a dangerous place. You can have all the feelings you describe without disowning something you have loved for so many years. Remember, the thrills we have enjoyed are from the performance of kids. That shouldn’t change. Have the animosity for Mr Herman but do not let him ruin your attitude for the enjoyment on the field. Just sayin.
Like I’ve stated on here before, wife and I will still attend and still cheer for the Horns. Not going to anymore VB, soccer, and prob softball but going to watch the sport I love. Now if the team stops standing for eyes or makes another stupid protest I may have enough but for now I can separate my animosity for the coach from my love of the game and players.
Beautifully stated. I also understand where he is coming from but that’s TH and not the student athletes. I’m no longer a TH fan for many reasons but I’ve been rooting for Texas for 46 years and it has also brought me much joy and heartache.....I wouldn’t change it for anything!

I’ve done a lot of really stupid things 15-22 years old- I had people forgive me for ALOT more.
Yes, me too. At 57, I continue to do things I need to be forgiven for, though I like to think they are fewer and farther between. An apology from TH would go a long way, even if it is just an apology for carelessly wording that infamous mid-summer statement. The players? No need. They are very young, and learning. I just hope they learn to discern the difference between **** and shinola sooner rather than later.

Texas football is bigger than Tom Herman.
if you can’t be happy for these kids when they win then I would suggest you really are triggered and being snowflakes over Black Lives Matter, the controversy over Eyes, etc

I have tried to lay low on this board for a long time hoping you all would get this **** out of your system. The mood has been ugly towards these players ever since then. It’s been an echo chamber and few of you bothered to listen or try to empathize. That could have gone a long way but the overriding sentiment is that we the fans are the ones who suffer oppression somehow by paying our tuition. Lol
And many of these are kids, many of whom are considered extremely lucky to be getting this opportunity, have no longhorn legacy like many of us did because it was out of reach for their forebears. I wonder how many of them will instill a love of this school after experiencing this backlash. It’s a wonder they haven’t lied down on us but I suppose they are just playing For each other at this point.

if you can’t be happy for these kids when they win, I would suggest that you never really were a fan, at least not of the players, of the game you love. And I would suggest you are on the wrong side of history. Probably not the first tine for many of you.

I love this team. I love these players! Hook Em! And beat the hell out of Kansas! Piss off haters. Delete post. Ban user.(me)

I edited my post. I meant to ban me. You all can have this board.

I notice you have nothing to say in response to the rest of my post.
I have always liked your football comments. I don'y have anything against you. We disagree on this issue, that's all.

I'm not here to change your mind. That's the thing. I don't think duke is trying to sway anyone either, but you and Texanne and a few others feel compelled to name call all of us and seemingly try to shame or guilt us into your corner on this.

Believe me, my life will move forward just fine if y'all think I'm an ******* or a lousy fan, even though I have been a die-hard since the late 70s. If/when this regime is gone, I'll be back to my normal routine of watching and purchasing merchandise, and attending games when I can.

Edit: I understood what you meant you when you said ban user. Most of us probably did.

Where did I say he’s not?

You guys have such a hardon for Meyer, and he’s a prick, too.
Meyer is a multi-prick, but he is only one of two coaches who can step in and turn a confused program around quickly. Stoops is the other, and he isn't that much better on the prick scale.

I never thought TH was a good fit because he is wrapped too tight. Too intense for his own good.

assume for the sake of whatever that he survives this season, continues to recruit real good if not great and wins something big except bowl games (has done that, right?) Will we all be fans again if in 4 or 5 years or less we are playing for a NC again?

I have nothing against you either. Also realize that I’m not even talking about you unless You have been one of the loud ones spewing **** at the players since the summer. Every single thread that addresses these controversies has been an adventure in insulting the intelligence and motives of kids who are trying figure things out and use the little power they have to make a difference. You all couldn’t even give them the benefit of the doubt it was in good faith. They’re Bad actors, or useful idiots, and we’re the victims.

So It’s pretty rich, getting upset over a little name calling. I think Creek threw the snowflake and triggered terms there to begin with which I find refreshing. An honest take if you ask me

Maybe. As I posted a few weeks ago, we always think other coaches are pricks lol. Meyer is reputed to be a big time family man. He doesn't glad hand. The Columbus sports writer who followed him for years said expect him to arrive for engagements 2 minutes prior to his speech and leave 5 minutes later. He wants to be with the family as much as he can, but he WILL win.

Maybe that's why he is reputed to be a prick. Who knows.

I flew Stoops back in 2005. He couldn't have been nicer.

There's a difference in my spewing my opinion on this board about the players and coach. If they are on this board and have read those comments, well, my apologies to them. The sentiment remains, however.

But, the vitriol back and duke, me, and others on here is directly referenced at us. None of us have any bad comments to any of you who love the players and team. Go ahead, love them. What the hell do I care?

Are any of you tough enough to say some of the **** you say on here directly to any of us? I'll say what I say directly to a player or Herman if I came in contact with them.

Stop playing victim bro. I’m not trying to change your mind either. You have a right (as long as Dion allows it) to come on this board with your opinions and no one is compelled to agree or even keep their mouth shut.
you can play victim and claim people are trying to shame and guilt you into changing your mind. but that is exactly what you all are trying to do these players.

it worked, they are now singing the eyes. You won. They changed their behavior. But have you changed anyone’s mind?

and somehow we should still Be feeling sorry for you because no one is considering your feelers...

Prick on the Coach Prick scale. I have worked with guys who were the nicest guys on earth but were absolute prick's on the Boss scale. And then just the opposite. (My wife was scared to death of one of my CEO's until she met him in a non-work situation - nicest guy on earth.)

It all depends what you want out of a person.

Okay, playing victim. That's what I mean. Take your condensing **** somewhere else, okay?

Our CEO is the same way from what I gather. That's what Texas needs right now, it seems.

Moon, rather than attack the messenger why don’t you present an informed and thoughtful response?

There's nothing to say that hasn't already been said.
I've gone over Herman's statements and find nowhere that he personally attacks fans.
He presented hypothetical situations and asked thought provoking questions.
As far as I am concerned, you and others choose to make it about you.
Nothing he said affected me whatsoever.
And as far as the players go, well, cry me a freakin river.
The big bad football players have opinions and feelings that differ from yours and dare to express them.
I don't care anymore.
Sorry you choose to ban yourself from enjoying the game.
I watched with my son yesterday.
We high fived as Jake Smith caught the touchdown pass.
It was joyful.
Sorry you can't allow yourself to partake.
I find your sentiment to root for the other team very aggyish.
That is all.
I will continue to root for the Horns and enjoy the emotional swings of winning and losing.
Hopefully the winning will continue. :)
Sorry you can't enjoy it.
I don't miss you.

Duke,

I understand your frustration with TH, and his foolish comments from June. His words not only drove a wedge between the fans and the team, but they also allowed rivals like OU to make baseless claims about UT as a means to gain a recruiting advantage.

The passion of the fans is what saved the program. It was the fans/alums who, after seeing Sam standing alone for the Eyes, lit the fuse beneath the BOR to tell the admin to grow a backbone. It's no coincidence that after the players were told to get together for the Eyes, things started to turn around. Because at that moment a group of individuals began gelling into a team.

I think the future is bright for the program. But I understand why some folks aren't fully on board yet. Healing takes time. And trust has to be earned.
You're a very reasonable dude, Major.
You've got my respect

I personally agree with those that say the essence of Texas football has been destroyed; but, unlike some, I do not claim it to be so for just one reason or another.
Honestly, I can't verbalize effectively what exactly changed, nor what changed it for me...but something is very different.
Call it changing times, changing city, changing people, changing sport, changing coach, changing program, changing me, whatever...something I use to perceive, relate to , and love, is gone.
Having said this....I'm still here, and I am a Texas Longhorn. I will support the team and program...at least for now and the foreseeable future... while still holding to my views, convictions, and values and disagreeing where I should.
I view it like pizza. Pizza is the best. I love it so much. I really enjoy and love it most a certain way...and that is the optimal pizza for me....But even when it has been diminished, and isn't the pie I'd prefer.... It is, after all...still pizza!
:hookem:

Well put.

So it’s OK for you to be butthurt about a song, but you deny a generation of young black men who have grown up with systemic racism to express themselves. Got it.
You asked a question and I provided an honest answer. Butthurt about a song? No, but the EOT issue is a pretty good microcosm of how these malcontents have mishandled this entire situation. I'm denying a generation of young black men the opportunity to express themselves? That's laughable. They can freely spend all day, everyday on the West Mall or any other appropriate venue for expressing themselves. No problem with that at all. However, when instead of expressing themselves in an appropriate manner, they choose to publicly smear the University, its history, traditions and alumni, well then, yes, as we can all see, we have a problem.
Your response is basically nothing more than a flippant attempt to dismiss my point of view while regurgitating the same tired old false platitudes. If you don't want to hear the answer, don't ask the question.

I'll watch Texas games this year, as they are interesting and exciting. But unlike the past 25 years of being a fan, I really don't care if they win or lose.

As usual, Herman has drastically under performed this year, with the annual losses to TCU and OU, of who's he's merely an irritant to (1-4 against). It's possibly Texas wins out and wins the B12, but far more likely to have a double loss to OU in the same year.

If Herman wins just enough to come back, will be interesting to see how much fan and ticket support there will be for next year. It's clear he's alienated a large percentage of the fan base. The huge stadium expansion is expensive to complete and fill up.

You'd think Sam leaves after this year - to whatever amount of NFL interest he generates. I believe he could come back as this year doesn't count for years playing due to the Wuhan, but haven't heard anything about it. OU beat Texas this year, and looks stronger for next.

Herman's like Mackovitch - support mile wild and inch deep. One bad year and he's gone.

I haven’t called anybody any names, and my comments have not been vitriolic. And I would tell them directly to your face. I would wear a mask, however, and I would expect for you to do the same.
