Sabre horn—- or Someone with close ties to CDC, needs to call him and tell him to get with the Miss State AD and get NCAA to at least move Game 1 of the final to Tuesday to prevent Vandy to not have tremendous advantage over whoever comes out of the other bracket with a tired and worn out pitching staff.

From the article posted by TempestHorn:

"Avent declined to comment on whether any of his players had tested positive for COVID-19, saying it was "personal information." He said he didn't know if the players who missed the game and spent Friday afternoon getting tested would be available for Saturday's contest.

According to the CWS manual, Bracket 1 participants were to be tested on Thursday. Asked if they'd undergone testing early Friday, NC State first baseman Sam Highfill said, "No comment."

Did NC State have a significant number of unvaccinated players?
Four of the positives are confirmed to have been vaccinated.

NC State has been Rahm'ed.

The irony in all of this is that they could have gone and sat in the stands like any other fan and nobody would have known anything. Instead, we see the NCAA Rahm'ing a group of kids of the chance to play dark horse winner...

I just hope it was a true outbreak of COVID (weird to say that; obviously we want everyone to be healthy and live a long life) and not some bureaucratic fear. Vanderbilt CLEARLY has a huge advantage now as the CWS is a war of attrition and takes a full team to win it all. They have two top ten pitchers in the upcoming draft and it's not a true indication of the team's depth. They deserve what they've done to date but to give those two horses rest when the other teams cannot do the same is definitely an asterisk in the making.
On the flip side...a severely depleted squad that was playing kids out of position and seeing players with precisely ZERO prior AB's this season took them to the mat and certainly had opportunities late in the game.

^Agree - NC State definitely got hosed on this ruling.
How did they get hosed unless you mean by the 14 players that did not get a covid shot.

The rules were know by N C St before they played a tourney game. It is too easy to get a covid shot. The 14 or so players that did not get a shot “hosed” their teammates that did. There is no excuse for not getting the vaccine. This mess is on them, not the NCAA.

What is the source of your statement that 4 positives had the vaccine. The rules were that if you had the vaccine, you do not need to be tested.

Initially, but when a test is positive I think they test everyone.

Multiple news reports cited the information. And, as already noted, when there is a positive, then everyone gets tested, regardless of jab status.

In light of claims about a cold that had gone around, I further suspect false positives given that we know that colds are ALSO a coronavirus...

So it’s Vandy and Mississippi State in the final series. Vandy has the pitching advantage in game one and may have it in game two assuming Bednar won’t be available until game three. The Commodores could/likely would bring back Rocker for game three and that would be another fantastic pitching duel if it ends up between him and Bednar. MSU has the better overall team but Vandy the better pitching staff top to bottom so this isn’t an easy call but I like the Bulldogs to win probably in three but they could sweep if they get even a little bit to Leiter as Vanderbilt just doesn’t have much offense to support that incredible pitching staff. Vandy is Texas but with even less offense and MSU has been through the wars and knows how to handle tough pitching.

And this is where the NCAA's logic is flawed. First of all, they shouldn't be testing anyone. Anyone who has the vaccine is safe right? The only ones not vaccinated have chosen to take that risk. Not a person in the stands had a mask on that I could see and they sold every single one of those shoulder to shoulder tickets....they wanted that $$$.

Why is it a different standard for players? Oh, because of "player safety"! If it's truly about safety and not about trying to stay out of trouble with the media then if they think it's necessary to test some vaccinated then they needed to test all players. I suppose they think that only the NC State players were at risk and not the thousands of fans and the other 7 teams?

Stupid nimwits!

Apparently 3-4 players with symptoms tested positive for NC State. Only the vaccinated players were allowed to play on Friday even though most of the unvaccinated players were not showing symptoms.

I can only presume the NCAA thought that more players will test positive, and possibly some of the vaccinated players by the championship series. My guess NCAA cancelled Saturday’s game because they didn’t want to cancel the championship series in case Vandy lost on Saturday.

Random fun fact: Just saw where Miss St is one of three schools never to have won a national championship in any team sport. Kansas St and Virginia Tech are the other two.

Vanderbilt wins game one of the championship series 8-2 after scoring 7 runs in the first. Interesting to see if MSU brings back Bednar on two days rest tomorrow or if they take their chances and save him and try to grind out a win and set up what would be a monster duel with Kumar Rocker in game three.

I think the rules were only once/if every single member of the team and staff has the vaccine, then none of them get tested.

In matchups like this, I'm never sure who I'm rooting for until I start watching the game. Last night was a reminder to me of how cocky the Miss St players were when we played them (as well as the endless Horns down), so it was easy for me to root for Vandy. If Vandy wins it all, their title will be tainted by the unearned day of rest for their pitchers and the fact that they didn't have to play NC State in an elimination game. Double-bonus!

They have to start Bednar tonight and hope for the best. There may not be a tomorrow.

Report: NC State Players Tested Positive for COVID Variant

"We understand the results. Believe me. There’s no questioning the results,” NC State chancellor Randy Woodson said Tuesday. “We understand the gravity of eight players testing positive and the fact that this was the Delta variant, which is super contagious and is quickly emerging in the country as potentially another wave of infection. So we understand. That’s of concern.”

And how did no one else get exposed, I mean they did play some games while there. Did no one else get tested?
