Coaching News and Rumors

If Chris were to come back into coaching I wish it had been for us.

Send your "thank you note" to Mack Brown. He ****** that deal up on purpose.

How is Chris' son's health. Will he move away from those doctors in Seattle?

I prefer Court of Two Sisters to Commander's Palace

Going back to the late 70s, I have NEVER had a meal at Court of Two Sisters that was worth the cost of Golden Corral buffet. Horrible food and horrible service. Can't compare to any of Dickie Brennan's other restaurants either.

Don’t know answer about his son. I do know about that being the reason for staying there but haven’t kept up with the situation. Just wish him and family the best. Have a lot of respect for the guy as a coach (and a man) after hearing the back story about the pervert transfer to Bailor.

SMU PONIES UP THE $$$$

SMU offers Dykes $$$$ to keep him on the Hilltop. He currently makes $1.3 million per year at SMU. TCU and Tech are in hot pursuit. As of now, Dykes has not yet signed the new $$$$ SMU contract...

Bidding War
$$$$$$$$$$

Sonny Dykes reportedly has an offer from SMU that would make him among highest paid Group of 5 coaches

Grinch and Joey McGuire will interview for the head coaching job. And yes, Leach is in the discussion as well.

"A source with knowledge of Tech's process told A-J Media the search is "exceptionally broad, nationwide" at this point, adding that more than 20 candidates have been closely scrutinized and a dozen have expressed interest directly or through agents."

In addition to the purported favorite Sonny Dykes, other coaches listed as persons of interest by the Avalanche-Journal include Louisiana head coach Billy Napier, Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze, Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko, and Detroit Lions offensive coordinator (and former Red Raider) Anthony Lynn.

Chatsportstv / Chatsports.com has thrown the following names out in the TCU coaching search as possibilities:

Dana Holgersen - UH - please :rolleyes1:
Jamey Chadwell - Coastal Carolina *** (good pick)
Bill Bedenbaugh - OU - just a coordinator
Jay Norvell - Nevada
Chris Petersen - former Boise St & UW - LOTS of buzz with him (but is he too old?)
Justin Fuente - Va Tech - negative fan reaction to him…
Jeff Traylor - UTSA - big buy out.
Sonny Dykes - SMU - of course, could be a 3-way bidding war; questions about his defense.
Mike Elko - aTm - there’s your defense. Donati said he wants an offense guy though.
Billy Napier - U of La - checks all the boxes. Could be waiting for a big name SEC job.

It’s Joey McGuire to Tech per 820 AM radio in DFW.
They’re saying it’s all but a done deal.
DMN and Lubbock Avalanche-Journal confirm.

Came up through the Texas HS ranks. Can recruit Texas. Well liked.

IT'S HAPPENING

Joey McGuire to Texas Tech

Man I did not see that one coming. He's the LB coach at Baylor? Really? Holcutt better get this one right or he will be ushered out with McGuire, should that time come.

Certainly not a big time splash hire, but that doesn't mean he can't be a huge success. It just means in a few years we'll know if this AD is a genius or total idoit.

Now if he gets a really good OC, things could get interesting up on the Plains.

According to some reports, Art Briles was indeed under consideration for the head coaching job... I don't think they should do it (Art Briles to Tech OC). That level of baggage will eat them up from the inside and destroy them. Get Mangino as the OC instead--the worst thing he does is act grouchy and yell at players.

Angelman's syndrome isn't something he will ever overcome. As long as the foremost expert is in Seattle I suspect Peterson's family is tethered to the Pacific Northwest.

I wonder if his time away from being a coach has rekindled his fire. Though he had a lot of success at Washington, he'd clearly lost his passion and said as much on his way out the door.

Take Scott Frost / Nebraska off the table. He's agreed to restructure his contract and will remain HC at NU for at least another season.

Anyone who thinks Art Briles will ever be a HC at the Div. I level again is as wrong as it gets. No, the guy at Liberty won't hire him. He cant get a job as an analyst unless his son will only agree to take a job if he's allowed to do so.

There's times I wish I'd post more often. No way he was going to get fired this year.

I wasn't in favor but the Husker fan online persona were at least 40% against him. He's Nebraska's prodigal son so I couldn't imagine not giving him a 5th season.

He canned most of the offensive assistants today, including Sonny Lubick's son. I'm fully expecting Mark Helfrich to be Nebraska's new OC.

Mickey Joseph, LSU's WR coach might also be a favorite to join the staff.

Seattle- There is buzz on twitter about Herman as possible OC candidate…. No way?!?!?

Only way Herman gets an OC job is if it is a situation like Charlie Strong coming to Texas and finding out no one wants to be on his staff regardless of salary or three year guaranteed contract.

There are guys out there who have their hat in the ring that fall in that category - Art Briles, Todd Graham, Graham Harrell, anyone taking the VT job. He might, however, team up with Manny Diaz in Convict Gables.

Hadn't heard Herman's name yet but he checks multiple boxes for Frost if you can get past his character issues (not sure that’s possible).

Herman has B1G experience and success at OSU. He now has ties to Texas, something Frost said was a challenge to Nebraska's recruiting since joining the B1G.
