I hate the aggies with a hot, burnt orange passion. I've been known to call them names that aren't appropriate for these boards. I've been known to say I hope their school burns down. All that said, I just saw RC Slocum has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Having lost my dad to cancer not quite a year ago, and a few other family members to that dreadful disease as well, I put all that aside and say I'll be praying for him and his family.

RC is quality people and a great friend of many years. Over the weekend, he would only say that "it's serious", but I think it was announced today.

Not sure of the percentage now, but the number of graduates of high schools in Southeast Texas dead of cancer was at one time over 70%. I think 65% of my graduating class was dead or had cancer after 20 years.

All bias and rivalry aside, he always struck me as a good man who was an outstanding coach. Cancer is abhorrent - both my parents, both grandfathers, two uncles - too many, and I know we can all say something similar. Here's to his care and prayers for his recovery. Strength, faith and love for all of his circle along the way.

In Jefferson county, our HS was two blocks from the world's largest chemical complex. NO air conditioning, windows always open, Lord knows what we breathed.

That said, my dad worked in the middle of that for 48 straight years, smoked three packs a day, and never got cancer

Nasty stuff. Same can be said for workers around the Harvey Canal in New Orleans/Harvey between 1965 and 1985. More than 50% of the guys I worked with during the later part of that period have died of the same form of cancer.

my Aunt died from lung cancer and never smoked a day in her life, my uncle and her lived on FM 1942 near Baytown and they were surrounded by plants of all descriptions..........makes you wonder.

He did. There can be a nasty side to the Ags (which was at its high water mark in 1995, after going I think 10-1 against Texas since the 80's - the reason why the 1995 game for the SWC championship was my favorite in-person game ever).

There's often the funny / goober side to them too, as you can see in various photo montages of them in costumes and doing strange things.

But there's also a historic, tradition rich part of the Ags, and they are an important part of the history and culture of Texas. RC always seemed to embody this aspect of it and not the other two. Hope he makes a fully recovery.

I have posted this before, but RC is a quality human being and class act. After Mackovic's team mailed in their game, I called RC on Monday morning to congratulate him. I told his secretary my name and the purpose of the call, then asked if she would please deliver a message to RC. NOPE! RC picked up the phone and we discussed everything from the near death penalty (he brought that up) to his HS team at Orange, his younger brother MB, and tons more (neither of us brought up Greg Davis)

RC is a regular guy with little to no ego. He may have gone to McNeese State, but he found his way "home" to Brazos County, where he remains an outstanding ambassador for Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College. My last conversation with him 2-3 weeks ago included "this time it's serious". That's about as negative as I've ever heard RC be. I hope MD Anderson gets this one right, and he's around another decade or two.

Neve know who gets sick due to exposure. I had a summer job as a teen in the ‘70’s for 4 summers. Went home covered with asbestos every day. No problems to this day. A man I worked with was exposed for 30 years. Still healthy as a horse today. But his wife got sick just washing his clothes. Died over 20 years ago from mesothelioma.

I almost ran over RC after a Houston TD club UT/ATM luncheon.
I came around a building corner as RC stepped off the curb. Hit breaks hard, stopped about 2 ft from him. Both our eyes where wide open. I gave him a Hook ‘em, he smiled and gave a thumbs up. We both laughed and he walked on.

RC has always been a class act. He just came across as a good old boy that anyone would hang out with. I emailed him a few years back and he responded with a very nice letter. Did the same thing with Tom Osborne at Nebraska and with Bill Snyder. All 3 seemed like honest sincere football coaches. Praying RC comes out on top. Great ambassador for sports!!

Kentucky Football Chief of Staff, Dan Berezowitz (hereafter "Bezerk-o-Witz") has been arrested for (allegedly) assaulting his wife. They've got it on video. According to one report, Kentucky's director of player personnel paid the bond to free Bezerk-o-Witz from custody. Bezerk-o-Witz was previously in a physical altercation with Bobby Petrino before a UK vs. Louisville game.
(of course, this man is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law)

The victim can be heard on the video stating ‘you hurt my back.’ The victim appeared to strike back at the listed suspect in self defense. Listed suspect later grabbed her by the arm, twisted it, which resulted in the victim falling to the ground. Both subject and victim are uncooperative.”

That would lead to a claim that he could not, or did not get a fair trial. The prosecution could introduce it as evidence, but the defense counsel would most likely object. What Kentucky law on the matter is, I have no clue. But after trial, is might be released and shown to the public, unless he were found guilty and appeals his potential conviction to a higher court. However, when has the news media ever turned down an opportunity to show an inflammatory video to increase their viewer ratings. The issue may likely be settled without a trial.

Seems like the normal concern would be potential jurors seeing evidence or opinions that would not be admissible. If they saw the actual video, which in the basic same form would be admissible anyway, then they wouldn’t be “unfairly” prejudiced.

Whether the film is admissible or not may depend on how it is presented and argued before the judge during pretrial meetings. If the film is shown on TV pretrial, the prudent attorney might request a change of venue and argue such with the prosecuting attorney present in the Judge's chambers. The decision depends on the judge and how well both sides present their argument for and against the change. Lots of variables in these situations. The question is, "was the video shown more than once , on more than on local channel, and how many folks saw it?" That would be a pertinent question to ask a jury panel during voir dire. Other question are, "what does it show?" "What is the quality of the video?" "What is the length of time of the video? And "where there actual witnesses? Were that close enough to see what actually precipitated the event? Otherwise it can become a "he said, she said" scenario. So who knows. I believe there is a high probability the whole thing will be swept under the rug and forgotten sooner than later. But we'll see.

Looks like some bad things have transpired in Lawrence, Kansas. Some info was just now made public about events from around 2 or so years ago. I don't think anybody will still wonder why we never hired Les Miles.

"Humphrey said at some point in February 2019, someone loosened the lug nuts on one of the tires on his vehicle enough that he noticed the tire wobbling in his side-view mirror. Humphrey reported that incident to police, but no arrest was made because there wasn't evidence to show who loosened the nuts holding the wheel on.

Humphrey said he told university officials about the harassment, and he had seen some of the other players selling drugs at the apartment building where they all lived. But former football coach Les Miles responded by suggesting the players work it out between themselves during full-contact drills in practice."
