Coaching News and Rumors

I can think of one big hire KU could make that would almost instantly establish them as a contender in the Big 12. A very big hire. They've done it before. We'd better hope they don't.

IS THERE SOMETHING FUNNY I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?!?!?!?!?!

Seriously, if they brought back Mark Mangino, in a few years they'd be stomping everyone in this conference not named OU or UT, and they'd be giving OU and UT a run for the conference title every year. He's done it before with horrendously bad talent.

He's still alive?

He's still alive?

According to wiki he is still alive. During his 8 year stint (no pun intended) as head coach at Kansas he was 50-48 which is amazing for them. I forgot he had a 12-1 season winning the Orange bowl. Even Mensa couldn't achieve that at a much superior program. Since he got fired Kansas is 21-98 and their highest win total in any one year is 3.

Mangino was the best thing to come along to KU football in 50 years. He had 'em going that year they went 12-1.

As long as we have Baylor, I would be very careful to throw any stones. For what it is worth, I always thought the Briles scandal was nothing when compared to the Bliss scandal.

Yes, but I do not root for the conference like that. I have no attachment other than the usual quality of win considerations for the schedule we play.

SEC fans embrace the entire swamp...

As a Baptist, I greatly resent it being referred to as the "Briles scandal". It was the "Baylor Scandal", which encompassed the BOR, BMDs, President, most of whom are still in place, and the replacement have been little more than space holders for the old guard.

I think Herman would work pretty well at KU. I've always felt that he needed to take over a fledgling Power-5 program instead of a blue blood. If he turned KU around to a .500 team instead of stuck in that 3-9 quagmire, it'd be quite the check mark on a resume. Keeping a program like ours at the 8-4 level isn't as big a deal.

Why did LSU allow Les Miles to carry on? 'We're protecting our brand'

Let's just say it. LSU is completely corrupt and devoid of morals because football is all that matters. The fans are a joke. The administration is pathologically ambitious. The coaches pretend to not know but they know. The players WANT THOSE GIRLS AROUND AND YES, THEY WANT BLONDES WITH BIG BOOBS. Miles was part of the machine.

They say, don't hate the player, hate the game.

NOPE.

The player is the game. If you engage, then you are the game.

Exactly.

"While Herman’s tenure didn’t work out at Texas, he’s due for another chance to be a head coach in college football."

This is their reasoning why he should be a candidate? He is due for another chance? He might be a pretty good choice for a program like Kansas, but I certainly wouldn't have started my argument by saying "he's due". He just got fired a couple months ago.

This is a classic example of why black coaches are so fed up with the system. You're exactly right; why is he due? To be fair, he did quite well at Cougar High and it's not like he was completely in over his head at Texas. But the level of forgiveness here is a bit much.

Hell, maybe some civil rights activists want him to be rehired because they liked how he handled the turmoil of last year. Who knows...

KU would be Tom Herman's speed. But if KU wants to win big time, they need to swallow their pride and bring back the big man.

Herman is "right" for Kansas because he will work cheap, say $250,000 per year. He's not going to draw quality assistants anywhere, so he opens the door to some assistants who are up & coming. Remember, it was Barry & Coach Bill Michael that opened the door for Jimmy Johnson when he was coaching Junior High in Mississippi. It was Coach Bill Michael who agreed to take the OC job for Pat Jones if Jones would move Gundy from Grad Asst to QB coach & play caller. Herman MIGHT find a few diamonds in the rough to groom.

Either way, the collection of dumbass ADs (that describes all ADs with the exception of 5-6), who have waltzed through Lawrence, have done the department no financial favors. Herman's ability to work "for nothing" should appeal to their Board. As long as Herman doesn't screwup their Tier 3 basketball deal, he can't make it any worse.

No way Herman can turn Kansas around. In fairness though, only 2-3 coaches could.
Define "turn Kansas around". If you mean consistent 8-3 or better seasons then I agree. But to me turning Kansas football around is achieved by consistently getting to .500 records. I think Herman can manage that.

That's a tough read. Hard to believe that it is not rampant throughout college football and basketball.

Texas Tech has a new "Director of on-campus recruiting." Jes Hryn:

She replaces Christina DeRuyter (who jumped ship to Vanderbilt):

Rumor is that this guy (named Tracy) interviewed for, but didn't get, the job:

I would say that Jess has a beautiful mouth but that might be a little too crass so I will say she has a beautiful smile.

Yeah. The way he badmouthed us as fans saying we don't have their backs or some such was ridiculous. As I said then, we don't have unfettered access to the players while they are still part of the team. That could cause all sorts of issues with the NCAA. Post graduation is different. Tom's handling of the protests during the spring was not what many expected from a HC. He also kowtowed to the players, instead of reminding them that they were here at one of the best universities in the country for free, to play a game they love. I can overlook some of the stuff the player said and or did because they are 18 to 21 years olds, and have yet to learn some decorum regarding such issues, but not the way Tom threw gasoline on the fire.

The picture of Sam, standing alone, horns up and singing "The Eyes" after a loss while the other players were laughing and having fun in the tunnel will probably never go away from my mind, and that situation was created by and is on Tom. But even before that, overall, his whole demeanor was to some extent, mostly arrogant and even combative with the donors and fans. But, he's gone, goodbye, good riddance, and please don't feel the need to come back for visit...ever!

That's my 2 cents worth, or maybe a dollar's worth now due to inflation.

I get all of that. We also can probably assume that what some call kowtowing to the players was in fact walking with them knowing the consequences. Some might even call it courageous.

That doesn't mean I agree with him. It only means that I recognize those who are woke might see Tom as a hero. That he was cancelled. That he is another Kaepernick who put his conscience above his paycheck.

And in the end, that may be a fact. He did what he did and now he's gone.
