Yeah it's not always about the money.
He became a starter at Duke. Had a good year and got some national attention.
However, if he could get on at an SEC school he would get much more attention and his chances at the NFL are that much better.
He needs to do what's best for him.
And none of us really know what his reasons are.

I’m happy Malik seems to be doing well. I don’t know his reasons for leaving Duke but I don’t think it’s an exposure issue. Playing in the ACC will get him just as much attention from NFL scouts as playing in the SEC, Big 12 or Big 10. If he can play, the scouts will find him.
