Coach Saban Retires

I think ego can be a very broad and ambiguous thing. It can manifest as a harsh arrogance or as a creative force of will. I see the latter in people like Saban, those who create something and achieve at a high level.

Seriously, the nerve of this guy with his fancy Champion banner flapping all over the thread.
Exactly, Mr. Admitor.

So shall it be written, so shall it be done.
God made Texas with his own hand;
Sent down Angels to the Promised Land.
Gave 'em a place where they could dance.
If you wanna see Heaven, brother, here's your chance.
I've been sent to spread the message:
GOD BLESS TEXAS!!!!.

Always envied Saban due to his record but gained my utmost respect when he got after his guys for doing the ‘horns down’ after their victory in 22. “We don’t do that s**t.”
Plus his outspoken dislike of the portal situation and lack of any NIL control. Isn’t that strange how we like those who share our views?

They know the football program instantly goes on life support no matter who follows Saban. The fan base will be unwilling to accept that the new guy is good enough no matter how many wins unless it's a national championship and eventually will run that coach off. Then the next coach will be even harder to find leaving them wandering through the desert for a decade or so until they move on to the acceptance phase that not many if any will be like Saban. Only then will the program rise from the ashes of a legend.

Ask Fred Akers how that works.
Exactly, however much more eloquently, what I said to my wife regarding Sabans replacement.
Bama will be like the rest of us.. 10-3, 7-5, 8-4, 9-3 each year and those bama fans are going to not understand that this is the world.
I cant wait.

Over the years I have gravitated from
being someone who didn’t like Saban — the ego (I didn’t want him at Texas, obviously an error in judgment on my part) — to now having a more positive opinion of his personality. However, he still has the ego.

Given that, could there be a part of him that doesn’t want to see DeBoer win immediately with what Saban built? I say, maybe.

If so, is it possible that while he won’t sabotage anything, perhaps if asked by a player, he may not “emphatically” encourage them to stay…?
I think he would have preferred Sark or Kiffen, maybe even Lanning, but I think DeBoer ended up being there 3rd or 4th option. That said, I don’t see him being so vindictive to sabotage DeBoer. Bama has been good to him.

Now I wonder what day he went to church when he was the head coach of the Dolphins.
He would have had the options, work permitting, of attend Saturday evening Mass, 8 9 10 11 12 or 5pm Mass on Sundays, or not going at all.

And there was his defense of Mac after Texas beat his LSU team in the Cotton Bowl. In the press conference some were digging on Mac and Saban said something like, I don’ understand why you are taking shots at him when he had 10 wins and just won the bowl game. Something to that effect. Never seen an opposing coach do that.
