China

"Six years ago, Bloomberg News killed an investigation into the wealth of Communist Party elites in China, fearful of repercussions by the Chinese government"

Some posters in here have been riculing this possibility - what now? Time to move the goalposts (again)?

"The first cable, which I obtained, also warns that the lab’s work on bat coronaviruses and their potential human transmission represented a risk of a new SARS-like pandemic."

The whorishness of our business community and media toward China is really disgusting.

Joe Biden, AOC, SJWs, and Hollywood is in as well because of Trump.

I think that's a huge part of it. I think AOC and the SJWs would be pro-China anyway because China is hostile to the US, and they like everybody who hates America. I think Biden and the media are somewhat different. I think they're generally just partisan hacks. If Biden wins the election, I think the media will be less whorish to China.

It's obvious, and has been for a long time, the news corporations are not motivated by truth seeking and truth telling, only money. I get that they are for profit entities, but there must be some ethics involved too. When you business is truth, then you are ethically obligated to tell it.

WHO Blocked Doctors From Urging Border Controls to Stop Spread of Coronavirus

"... While the organization was demanding countries impose zero border controls, it was also campaigning against the profiling of international travelers in order to prevent the “stigmatization” of Chinese people (hurt feelings).

In early February, Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus re-iterated this in a statement in which he said that travel restrictions “can have the effect of increasing fear and stigma.”

Right up until the end of February, the WHO continued “to advise against the application of travel or trade restrictions to countries experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks,” despite the rapid spread of the disease.

It has now been revealed that medical experts who were urging countries to impose border controls were silenced.

“[WHO] actually decided not to go ahead with [travel ban recommendations] and not declare a global health emergency but there were a few dissenting voices,” reported Sky News Australia.

“So the official meeting records say there was a divergence of views but they won’t actually go into detail about who was trying to block it. But there were doctors there who wanted to issue travel bans and the World Health Organization blocked it.”

The effort to silence medical professionals from urging countries to enact travel bans was made on January 30 during a meeting of WHO bureaucrats and health experts in Geneva, Switzerland...."

And yet the media is spinning the cutting of funding as a win for China. Link. It's a stupid rationale. What they miss or intentionally ignore is that the WHO has already been captured by China and has already blown its credibility. Nobody has any reason to believe a word that they say, so why should we care what influence we have there? What we need is a new health organization with an entirely different leadership and structure.

And of course, this is part of a broader problem with the UN and other global institutions. Once they stopped being Western-oriented (in the '70s), they pretty much stopped being respectable.

My niece is going to be coming out of UT with her public health masters soon and Geneva has been her goal for awhile. Rethinking it now

This makes what the WHO/Tedros told the world on Jan. 14 even worse --

China’s initial coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan spread twice as fast as we thought, new study suggests
Each carrier was infecting 5.7 people on average, according to US researchers, who say previous estimate had used incomplete data
Latest data based on cases whose origin could be traced more clearly, in provinces that had test kits and ample health care capacity

Covid-19 twice as contagious as previously thought, study finds

If she's only looking out for herself, I'd go to Geneva. It might be the most impressive place in the world to live. If she actually cares about public health, then I'd work somewhere else.
