Chiles not looking happy?

Did anyone else notice this? I've read on here a couple of times that he didn't look happy, but I never saw it personally. If you did, please elaborate when it was and what it seemed to you? I'm surprised he didn't play more. People are saying they're holding it back for "the big games", but we know how many times we've heard that song and dance in season's past (too many to count), and it never came to fruition.

He goes in with a huge lead and hands the ball off (predictably) right up the middle. I understand not running the score up, but he has to get snaps that are meaningful if Davis is actually going to develop him. otherwise put him at another position, get him the ball, and let him score. Colt went over to talk to him on the sideline, and he did not look excited about his series. Wasn't visibly angry or anything. Less than excited is how I viewed it.

Can you blame the kid, i think he has obviously been promised to play QB and now the staff is just dicking him around, I am suprised he is still here.

LOL..here we go. Chiles hasn't done anything to earn playing time at QB. His best bet is to put the team first and try playing another offensive position. Quit pouting. That's pop warner.

WTF did Colt do when he arrived on the 40 Acres that earned his playing time?

And that guy before VY (can't even remember his name)?

He hasn't even been given a chance..

And I'm pretty sure he was led to believe that he would be a qb here.

Would you be happy coming in in the 4th quarter with 5 minutes left o hand off 3 times and punt??

I think the coaches are talking about getting him into the game too much. If they wanted him to play more, we'd see more of him. Hes a qb not a receiver.. And when you try to change someones position.. Ofcourse they wont be happy.

If he doesn't like being where he is in the scheme of things, then so be it. I ain't losing sleep over how John Chiles feels.

i think the coaches have given him plenty of opportunities. i want this kid to go crazy and become the second coming of VY. but he really hasn't shown us that much.

i took that upset look as him feeling like he didn't take advantage of his chance to play. i think right before he came to the sidelines he rolled out and should of gone to the outside for a sure first down, but instead he ran in and didn't convert.

If Colt goes down we are in a world of hurt. Chiles may be upset but what about Harris? I think Harris has more reason to be upset, at least he is a quarterback. I would like a poll of all Hornfans, and try to be honest.

If Colt were injured, who would you feel more comfortable with under center?

A. John Chiles
B. Sherrod Harris
C. Quan Cosby with a couple weeks practice

My answer=C, (I have no idea how Harris would do)

He didn't look happy based on what? A quick shot from a TV camera?
Did he pull a Cedric and go sit by himself on the bench and then ignore a teammate (Roy Williams) who came over to try and talk to him? If so then it might justify a post.

What is the basis of your question?

Armchair psychologists are even more pathetic than armchair coaches.

I don't know if you can tell if he's happy from a TV shot.

I also think that if he wants to play he should earn it. I'm not sure he is our second best QB, so the coaches may already be giving him a little more than he has earned.

Like all players, I hope he is happy here and contributes. If he's not, I won't spend much of a thought on it.

Too many of us judge players more by their recruiting projection than by their performance.

I don't know if he's happy or not, but I do know he's not a very good QB from what I've seen. I also have failed to see the explosiveness that was supposed to make him the next VY. His speed and open field running have left me less than impressed.

Too bad if he looks unhappy. Get better if you want to play, or better yet, realize youre not a qb and go catch passes or return kicks. Poll answer: I would MUCH rather have Sherrod in there after Colt than Chiles.

No you post was more idiotic bigjohn

Colt beat out all the others and still has the starting job, so I guess that's something. oh yeah...plus he's kickin aaaaa.....

LOL Denmark you and AustinTXUSA are soo cute, I am guessing you follow the croud and everything they do, try having some thoughts of your own sometime you might like it.

And I'm not sure if you are new to the program or what but I can name 2 other times in the short career of mack brown and greg davis in which they made the wrong pick during the off-season on who should start when it was clearly the other guy who was the better of the two.

All I am saying is that he needs to get some game time and not to just hand off to the fullback.

This is the Marshall Applewhite - Heaven's Gate - Hale/Bopp of all threads.

You people are WAY to worked up over complete speculation. Don't commit suicide over things you might "think you know".

Facial expression reading is a dicey thing to begin with, throw in a helmet, a tv situation where you can't see the complete picture etc...

1. Was Chiles pissed? We don't know. Maybe he wasn't at all. End of thread.

2. If he was, Why? We don't know. Maybe he wanted to get in the game a little earlier (I agree) maybe when he goes in he wants to do more than hand off up the middle (I agree)...Maybe somebody farted in the huddle. Maybe ...well again. who knows? End of thread

3. Is any of this a reason to drag out a discussion on wheter he was pissed? No! Even if he was, this whole thing is over by the flight home.

Now...Are we using him effectively? That is a fair question.

I say we STILL refuse to use him enough during the "heat" of the game. We put him in early in that 3 & out against FAU and I guess we got cold feet as a Coaching staff again.

I think we need to play him more (see Snead) right now, and during meaningful time. He's thrown some strikes as well as some bad passes. For those of you who keep saying the kid isn't a QB, I say it is still too early to tell. VY wasn't VY until he STARTED some games and had some bumps along the way.

My speculation? He wanted to contribute more, but the coaching staff didn't want to show much of the "Q" that is now seemingly more myth than magic, and didn't feel good enough about our own Defense early to put him in at QB due to cold feet. Therefore, when he went in he wanted to do more than the up the middle calls.

Yes he needs to accept whatever role the coaches assign him, but also...hell, let's see what he can do up 10-14 in the 2nd or 3rd quarter as opposed to only up >28 in the 4th.

BTW, the new online phenom argument is "If Colt goes down, were screwed b/c Chiles doesn get to play enough" is really, really, really ..... dumb.

What an asinine argument. At most ANY university, a team would be in trouble or "in a world of hurt"

if their starting QB went down with an injury. There is a reason you have 1 starter....cause they are your best option to win.

Chiles gets plenty of time to practice. If he does not know how to play in our system when the time calls on him, that is his fault. The coaches, if doing their job, ahve him ready for that. The guy is never going to be 100% ready unless he plays several games - and lets all HOPE that he doesn't need to do that b/c that would mean Colt is injured.

Seriously, stop with the retarded comments. Anyone could figure out that if your starter goes down, you are going to have issues to work through. You must have watched a football game before...Kudos to you. We do not need to start splitting time at QB so Chiles can get more snaps or so the coaches can make him feel happy.

The only thing i find retarded on this board is all the kool-aid kids drinking the colt-45 flavored kool-aid, you act like this dude is something special cause he had one bad *** year as a freshman. Since then he has been questional at best and has a loosing record vs OU and a&m.

I think the MNC took a lot of fire out of people heart's about this program and it's making me sick, are you seriously going to be ok with a NC every 10 years how about every 30 years. Texas is the leading State in college football recruits and no other state has more recruits and more football players come out of it every year.

USC, **** we should be making their dynasty look 2nd rate with the resources we have to work with and this is all we get?

McCoy is no top QB and I place a bet with anyone on this board that once again he won't make it through a whole season.

BurntOrangeIrish, I guess everyone should have consulted you before posting their thoughts. The reason we are screwed if Colt goes down is because we have no backup. A lot of major colleges have good solid backup quarterbacks if their starter goes down. When Chiles has been given chances early in games, it is usually 3 and out. UTEP's 2nd string quarterback looked a lot better.

How it went..
*The score was completely out of reach for UTEP
*Coaches put Chiles in to prevent McCoy from getting injured and giving Chiles MUCH-needed playing time
*Three hand-offs from Chiles later, he started walking off the field looking VERY pissed, yet holding it in. Simply put.. the face of defeat, and seeking vengeance.
*He went to the sidelines and McCoy walked up to him and started saying something, and patting him on the back (all on film).
*Later, Chiles would be given the opportunity to get his vengeance, getting a QB-draw opportunity. Rather than showing his burst speed, he just half-heartedly tried gaining yards, and failing
**END OF STORY**

My conclusion: He was promised playing time by the coaches, who expected to have a larger lead early on. The only reason the coaches would put him in is for experience. He's not needed on the field against a team like UTEP, and implementing him as a weapon would only prepare later teams for learning how to stop him. Why blow a surprise? After not playing for the first 3 quarters, Chiles was upset (and rightfully so). He was angry w/ the coaches. So much so that he was to the point that he didn't care about how he looked, he wanted the night over with. I don't blame him for being frustrated for his lack of playing time, but if his lack of performance was due to his arrogance and spite towards the coaches, then I wouldn't condone that as a coach, and would have a talk w/ him and try to work SOMETHING out.. maybe a little bit of discipline too

Which btw, is it me, or does Mack Brown seem a lot more active this season than he has been in the past (pre-ASU-beatdown)?

Lastly, I can't say this enough, but as far as his performance goes.. don't make ANY conclusions about his performance until he gets implemented come Conference-games. They will all only be assumptions, and we don't want to let wrong assumptions eat at us now do we? He was given one opportunity Saturday's game, and he wasn't in the right mind-set to perform on that play.

Oh, and lastly, he HAS earned his spot at secondary QB. You guys are being ignorant and forgeting a VERY key factor in depth-placement. PRACTICE! We don't get to watch the practices, so the ONLY conclusions we can base of his performance are in games. How he performs in practice is completely under-wraps, and THAT'S why he's QB2. Muschamp (though a DC) said it himself. He's not putting people at positions in respect to how they perform in games, but dominantly how they perform at practice.
