Prior to this past recruiting season, Mulkey was getting shut out on the marquee players in Texas. Meanwhile, Texas signed 4 McDonald's All-American for 2013 and 2014. Fortunately for Baylor, Mulkey went out of state for some very good players, as well as a big transfer.
Now, there are so many talented high school players in the state of Texas. Both Texas and Baylor signed many of the best kids for the 2016 class. Trend seems to be continuing with the 2017 class. As long as Baylor and Texas keep winning, there will be plenty of Texas players to go around. Coach A doesn't hesitate to recruit out of state, but we have not hit it big in that area (compared to Baylor). Perhaps that cycle has been broken with Alecia's signing. Getting visits from Top 10 out of state players like Ionescu last year, and the possible official visits from Megan Walker and Rellah Boothe, the odds are that Coach A will get more big fish from out of state.
We are fortunate to be based in a state with a continued upswing in producing elite hoopsters. As long as that well doesn't go dry, we (and Baylor) will be fine.
