Chance of Football in 2020

Yeah but how can you discount Frost’s press conference today about playing anyone, anytime?
Can't at all...Nebraska is obviously serious and aligned internally on this. Much respect.
But I am having a hard time grasping why Penn St, tOSU, and UM would be looking to play in another conference but yet voting with others to CX the season w/in Big10.
Unless.......things are even crazier than I imagine.
...Or we are just getting premature conjecture/bad info from media (and things arent at all settled in the B1G)...which couldn't possibly happen, right?!?

Simple, the AD and president don’t agree. OR, President said to AD, I will vote no while you work out plan B.

Hate to throw any water on this...think it still may have a leg....but that retweet was from a 2-3 day old tweet....prior to the events of this weekend.
Again....may have some validity, but the tweeter is being disingenuous retweeting that "breaking news".
And that makes you a reretweeter, LC!
;)

I'd rather be a reretwitter than a suacists!

Yeah...and clearly a few coaches...namely Harbaugh..has pretty strong feelings, and you can bet there are more. It seems, though, if they (any persons in positions of power wanting to play within the respective schools) had that much pull it would have shown up for the B1G meeting/vote itself, right??

Sometimes, even Satan gets it right

I know you’re joking and others like to dump on Saban, but I respect his program and more importantly, his players play with class. They could easily act like Miami or the prima donnas at USC, but they don’t. It’s because of Saban.

This is what we don’t know. How many of these 10 presidents would have voted NO regardless of coronavirus. I would say at least 6-8. Covid is just an excuse with these guys to knock down the athletic department.

BREAKING: Hearing there is strong traction that #PennSt #OhioSt #Michigan and #Nebraska will all join the #Big12 for the upcoming season. #Big10 #CFB

Sounds like a great idea but very unlikely but that would be a 'conference' loaded with tradition and big fan bases.....some very tough games also. But how would you establish divisions and who gets left out??
Texas (schools that is) combined with the Land Thieves and Okie Lite. Everybody else goes in the other side of a bracket Division issue solved. Could even serve to keep travel costs down while ALSO allowing former Big10 rivalries to remain intact...

(on edit...yes I know the numbers aren't exactly balanced, but in this upside-down turd of a season, why should it HAVE to make sense and be balanced)

Here is a grand proposal. Some P5 conferences and the lesser ones play in Fall. B10 and P10 and other lesser ones play in Spring. Have two NC’s. I don’t care. In this way, we get max number of teams playing max number of games.

No matter what conferences decide, schools can still play football
Opening door for first super conference

What is wrong with how it was played in the old days? Loosely organized scheduling.

Three things that could come of this:

1) End of NCAA as the big boys form their own organization and bid Indianapolis a F O N D farewell.

2) End if Title IX as the money is drying up

3) For The University of Texas, the most important issue is in Norman. Rumors persisting (I don’t believe them) that OU is closing workouts and sending players home. Dr Boren was our biggest ally, particularly when our university had NO leadership (not the AD). If this new guy, who I already thought was a bozo, overruled Castiglione and Riley, Texas has a major problem as we have been able to count on Dr Boren to be our biggest ally and carry the ball when Powers and Fenves showed their incompetence.

All I can say is I can barely imagine all the politics going on with this...though some we don't have to imagine because it's right out there, but wow....fascinating circumstances and storylines and politicking galore.

The list is endless, Sabre. Many of the things in play may never come to pass, but some will - and you can bet the events of this year will alter the course of collegiate athletics forever.
On your "Norman" point...
Those players were sent home....publicly...under the guise of simply adjusting to the schedule change, the fact that OU was preparing early for what was to be an earlier start, and there being extra "vacant" weeks to operate with...giving the players some added rest. (I thought this was suspicious when announced)
Do you have reason to believe there is more to it?

TV and big contracts changed everything and no going back

But I would be OK going back if we could. Let the mercenaries just turn pro out of HS (or before). Or did you mean put in a minimum SAT score to qualify?

The Mountain West officially "postpones" its fall sports season
Poor BYU...all those twenty dollar bills in the pockets of fans who travel that won't see the light of day in other cities (making the round trip without leaving the pocket).

(yes, I know BYU isn't really Mountain West but they sort of go together)

Well, it didn't take the Mountan West very long to go from announcing a ten-game season (Saturday) to a total postponement (today). I haven't seen anything yet from the USAFA Athletic Department, but they are usually pretty good about keeping the website up to date.

I thought I was home free on my bet. Sounds like UT is solid. Some of these other schools and conferences. :brickwall:
