CFP Semifinal Prediction Thread: Texas vs. Ohio St...Two Will Enter, One Will Emerge Victorious

I'd like to ask everyone here to do me a favor. Quit referring to Ohio State as tOSU. It pisses me off. Why didn't we call Arizona State tASU, or Oklahoma tOU. Get my drift? They are pretentious pricks. Quit kowtowing to them. Hook 'em!

I'm counting on all the Horns to play their best A game on 1/10/25. Play hard, and play together.

Horns 34
Buckeyes 31

aOSU or sOSU works better.

an Ohio State University
some Ohio State University

Chip Kelly will scheme Jeremiah Smith into mismatches against Muhammad and Michael Taffe. If the Texas front 5-6 can't get pressure on Will Howard and contain Henderson, OSU receivers will eat us alive.

Ohio State front 7 will consistently beat our zone blocking scheme to their spots and disrupt the running game. Sark has to get us back to 12 personnel and give Ewers and the receivers spacing to be successful.

But it all depends on defensive pressure. Will Howard was dropping dimes into tight spots against Oregon due to lack of pressure.

Prediction:

OSU - 30
Texas - 20

(Hope i'm wrong)

They lost a lawsuit over it - so it’s sort of funny to use it anyway.

Hard for a college qb to play perfect for 2 straight games.

The only reason I did this in the past was to differentiate them from Okie Lite.

Yeah what NRHorn said.
Ohio State = tOSU
Oklahoma State = OK St
Oregon State = Or St

I'd rather not call anyone OSU for the sake of continuity.

I've been watching the TV. Ohio state clearly has way better players and way better coaches. Sounds a lot like what we heard in L.A. the week before the 2005 Rose Bowl. I'm starting to feel like all the great Longhorn ghosts are going to show up and push us over the finish line. I've had the pleasure of meeting some of these wonderful kids and quite frankly, they believe in themselves and each other, and this makes meI believe in them!"
Hook Em!

I know OSU is good and I know our offense absolutely sucked last week. Our run game is like Jekyll & Hyde week to week. We all know this game 100% comes down to whether we can run for 150+ yds or just 50 yds. If we run for 150 we win, if we're below 100 we lose it's as simple as that (not really that simple, but you get what I mean). All these talking heads who think they know OSU (who couldn't do **** against Michigan) is such a much better team when we all know if Texas shows up nobody will beat them.

I pray we have had some serious planning around how to get those backs free and downfield to open up the passing game. If OSU stops the run game with 4 linemen & dropping everyone else like they did in the last game there's no chance.

We do not have a chance. This will be a blowout. We suck arse. We have not played anyone. We are soft. We are a shite program. We don't have Mike Elko.

Is that enough rat poison?

Unlike our two Georgia games, no one -- except maybe Corso -- will pick Texas. Nor should they. But there are some intangibles I like.

Home field fans... We will need them!

Ohio State will come in sky high, and they should. They steamrolled Tennessee, and then annihilated Oregon. They should be very confident, and they will be. But that can be a double-edged sword. As Saban would say, it's "rat poison." All they will be reading and hearing is how great they are, and that winning the Cotton Bowl is a foregone conclusion. No matter how hard Ryan Day attempts to change the message, 18-21 year olds on social media will believe they are invincible.

Conversely, the Texas players will hear for the next nine days that they are lucky to even be in the game (which is true), and that they don't have a chance.

This game reminds me a bit of the game on 1/4/06 in the Rose Bowl. No one, and I mean NO ONE thought Texas could win. That underdog mentality worked very well for us. That, and a transcendent talent who would not be denied. Texas played a near perfect game that night, and we will need to do so next Friday night to have a shot.

I think we can win, but must go:

Lowlife couch burners - 35
Texas - 24

I want so badly to be wrong.
I think the similarities to the '06 Rose Bowl is real to some extent. The individual athleticism of the Texas players is real, but I do not think the leadership is as good on this team. Talking heads gave Texas no chance against the "best team in the history of college football" and after the game some of them would say they still thought SC was the better team.

One thing that was evident in that game was the ability of the Texas team on defense to run down the players on SC. I hope that this can be an overlooked ingredient of this team. Has OSU seen the team speed on defense that they will encounter on Friday. Texas does not win a power football game, but maybe a skill game with a lot of speed. And it cannot come down to field goals.

Texas 28
Coach punching crazies 24

IMHO, of all the keys, the single biggest key to the game is the UT OL. Can they help establish a running game, while protecting Ewers on passing downs vs. a very nasty osu D?

If they can't, we lose.

Agree. At times this year, they were about as useful as a Tesla and, at times, they were very good.

They always say its all about the guys up front on both O and D. If that's the case then I like our chances. Our O-line against their D-line is a push but I think we have an edge the other way around.

I don't know what you've been watching if you think our OL versus their DL is a push.

Apparently I haven't been watching or listening to all of the sports pundits giving poor Texas no chance against the mighty OSU. They have two excellent defensive ends and we have two projected first round offensive tackles. Their interior guys are good but not stellar IMHO. I look forward to finding out what's what on Friday night.
