CB Obi Eboh (Sep 1)(Sep 5 COMMIT) - Decomm UT / Comm Stanford 01-22

No worries. He might even flip, but who knows at this point.

Per TFB:
There has been a lot of talk about Southlake Carroll (TX) CB commit Obi Eboh, who was recently offered by Stanford. Eboh and his family are very serious about academics and Stanford seemed like the only school that would challenge Texas for the talented CB. It’s been a bit up in the air as to whether Eboh would stick with his original plan and visit Texas this weekend or visit Stanford instead. As I tweeted out last night, we got some clarity on that matter. Eboh is expected to visit Stanford this weekend and Texas on the following weekend on January 23rd.

I was told after Eboh was offered by Stanford that his mother would likely push her son to Stanford and as most know in recruiting, you don’t want to be going against a mom because they usually get their way. However, Obi certainly likes Texas.

While nothing is certain at this point, I am listing him as a highly probable "flip" to Stanford. Hope he stays home. Depending on what he wants to study Texas has many of the top academic programs in the country, so there's that.

Canceled his visit to Texas looks like he is headed to Palo Alto can't fault him for that one good luck to the kid

Obi Gone...

I think we knew he was gone as soon as he got the offer from Stanford. Good luck to him.

a degree from Stanford carries more weight.
Until you hire them and find out they are not team players and struggle to function in a real world work environment.

I let my managers hire who they want, but I caution each that if they hire from Standford, MIT or Harvard the performance is on them (the managers) - good and bad.

Good luck to him. Although it would have been nice he came to Texas, we don't have a pressing need for CB as much as DT. I hope we take 3 DT in this class.

Did i miss something? where is there an official link that reads he has committed to Stanford?

Recruiting takes a special kind of person; you can't let it get to you. There's no way I could do it. I guess it's like sales; you can't take things personally. In the business world, buyers typically can be some of the worst people you will ever encounter. The kids are the buyers... plus they're kids. You have to have a strong capacity to grasp the big picture.

Don't think there is an "official announcement" yet. The expectation that he's going to Stanford is higher than sticking with UT. He and his mother are focused on the education aspects more than football IIRC.

He has received recent offers from Stanford and Ohio State but Stanford seems the more likely destination since he decommitted within the week of returning from a recruiting trip there.

My education at UT was pretty damn good! And it served me well.

Come on in Obi.

:hookem2::bevo::hookem2:

I've said before, UT has many top nationally ranked programs depending on what a student wants to major in, and both a national and international footprint. Stay home!

I grew up in Austin and was dyed in the wool UT--both parents have degrees from UT. Went to all sports games since a toddler.

Anyway, after HS, I applied and got in to Stanford. My father nixed it. "We've got a perfectly good college right here in town that was good enough for me and your mother."

I have two UT degrees that I am very proud of and have not been limited in the least in my career from progressing however high I wanted to progress. Still, Stanford would be an amazing place to go to college.

"We've got a perfectly good college right here in town that was good enough for me and your mother."

There it is in a nutshell! Incidentally, firms I've worked for give preference to grads from Texas universities first. If, for example one candidate went out of state for undergrad studies, and another went in-state, the Texas grad would get the nod. There were some exceptions for grad or professional degrees, but that was the general rule.

I have a relative who is a lifelong longhorn fan, who went to a different school because of fit. He now still wears burnt orange and watches his football game in DKR. It can happen.
