Candidates for our new assistant head coaching vacancy

Hoping we get official word this week.

The position was first posted on April 18th. Does anyone know the minimum number of days a position is required to be posted before a hire can be announced? I think it may be 10 business days but under certain circumstances it can be reduced to 5 business days. It would be awesome if someone with more knowledge of the rules would confirm.

I think your time frame (up to ten business days) is correct although they can list the last day to apply on the position listing. That was not done for this job, though.

There is a chance that a hire has already been made, and they are waiting the required timeframe before it can be officially announced. But, I'm hoping the information would leak out (social media) so we'd know ASAP. I'd even settle for any tidbits about candidates who were approached/interviewed, but it seems doubtful we are going to hear anything.

I think, given the specifics of the job posting, that a lot of us think it was written with an individual in mind. Of course, we anxiously waiting to find out who that person is.

I am thinking, just on general guidelines, that we will hear something this weekend (it will have been ten days since the job was posted or noticed by us anyway) or early next week.

Wonder if Nell Fortner would be interested in a return to coaching? I always enjoy her commentary of games. I would guess she would not want to return to the grind.

Karen posted just a bit ago, in response to Texas Womens twitter "Never too early to get on the bandwaggon! Good news coming soon. Stay tuned!"
My guess is this relates to the head coaching vacancy. Very excited to see who they select. I'm sure someone more savvy can post the actual tweet as well.

NTexan--Thanks for the tip. Here's the Tweet

Glad there is "good news" coming soon, regardless of what it is. It would make sense that it's about the coaching hire, but the words "Never too early" seem like they would be more related to an underclassmen recruiting verbal commitment (2020 or 2021); of course, our coaches can't comment or tweet about a verbal commitment (only re-tweet the news).

Regardless, we're getting some good news soon!

Anxiously awaiting news on the new hire. What does coach have up her sleeve? Inquiring minds want to know. Let's do this coach!!!

Now I get the feeling that "Never too early to get on the bandwagon" is about season ticket renewals, and the possible schedule.

Anyone come across Jhasmin Player’s name related to the assistant coach position? She’s been following Karen closely on Twitter and just tweeted this:

She’s currently an assistant at the University of Maine but is a Texas girl who played at Baylor.

Jhasmin tweeted an interesting tweet to Karen and Tina the day Tina got the UVA job, but I can't find it. Had to do with a coaching tree.

Well, this is certainly interesting. Maine did come to Austin for the tournament though, maybe they all just spent some quality time together??

If my math is correct, I believe Jhasmin played at Baylor when Karen Aston was an assistant coach at Baylor. Karen was an assistant coach from 2006-2007. Jhasmin graduated from Baylor in 2009.

Aston just tweeted re: season tickets:

"They are going fast! Bandwagon is filling up! Let’s go. News today, and news soon. Stay tuned!"

Here's hoping "news soon" means the coaching announcement

Yoda with good advice but I'm ready for some news!

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and guess Tiffany Jackson. She hasn't coached college before, but neither had Tina. She is definitely a Texas legend, and by her tweets, seems to know a lot of the kids in grassroots basketball programs in Texas!! What say ye??

Yep, that would be my guess as well. And if true Texas will have a pipeline to the two best and most important AAU programs in Texas. Again, if it is Tiffany DFW Elite along with CY-Fair will both be pipelines to Texas. Tiffany’s dad was/is the most important person in grassroots basketball in Texas. He was the director for DFW Elite.

My apologies to @utfannforlife . I just noticed you mentioned Tiffany earlier in this thread. With the tweet from ShesBallin, it just made me think of her. I think it's a good guess!!

No apologies necessary!! The Texas legend/grassroots influence narrows it down to three people IMO. T Jack & Clarissa. Thinking waaaaaaaayyy outside of the box for the 3rd contender though......TJ Ford. Not sure what his appetite for the women’s game is, but it worked with Travis so what the hell, why not.

Tiffany is quite interactive with a lot of these young players on twitter, from what I’ve observed. Of the three possibilities mentioned by utfannforlifr — Tiff, TJ Ford, or Clarissa — Tiffany gets my vote!

Yeah, the Texas legend hint could only mean a handful that might be available, or possible at this point. And a couple have already been assistants previously, so doubtful that tweet would have been worded the same way were it one of them. Tiffany definitely fits the bill, can't think of anyone else it might be. Would be amazing to have her back!!
