Can anyone justify NOT having the Wall?

He could try to push E-Verify. I don't know state limits in dictating hiring practices but we are sunk unless we can get some of these illegals to go back across the border. There are already so many here that we can't manage. We now have to adopt a posture of "how do we get them to self-deport?" In my opinion, E-Verify is the best way.
The right doesn't want that. Then the cheap labor goes away. I'm a Democrat. I'm not pro illegal immigration. I just think that you can attack the supply and the demand at the same time. Make severe CIVIL ($) penalties for hiring illegals and make repeat offenses CRIMINAL and you'll remove their ability to work and they'll go back.

Good point. Right now Texas only requires public employers including higher education to use e verify. I think this includes contractors doing state business.
But it should be ALL .
However this must be passed by the legislature. So we all need to work on our elected reps to pass this next session

I wonder how many illegals Will volunteer to bus to DC. Not many BUT it puts a spotlight in the problem

Illegals are doing whatever it takes to stay off the radar. They're not complaining to their bosses, they're not calling 911 and they're surely not taking a bus to DC to protest (storm the Capitol). :)

They cannot force them to, but could offer financial incentives to do so. A $5,000 payment would be cheaper than their cost to the state for housing, food and school.

if they can't do all employees, i suspect they do have much more leverage than we've been using. for instance, jobs that require licensing. maybe it already is part of it, but if not, we could start requiring E-Verify for any position that requires licensing.

Again BOSD
Yes!! WE voters should make sure our elected pols put this bill forward. I know there will be lobbies who will try to pressure against it. But there are more voters than lobbyist

No doubt there won't be many if any illegals getting on the bus to DC BUT it keeps the problem in the news.
I am sure there will be some who claim Abbott using razor wire to prevent illegal water crossings will claim that is cruel.

The state definitely can require e-verify. However, the coalition of business interests who oppose it is far too powerful for it to happen. They would go absolutely ape-****.

From Fox News

Texas has dispatched buses to the southern border to retrieve illegal immigrants after Gov. Greg Abbott said this week that he planned to send those released in his state to the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Within the last 24 hours, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has dispatched an unspecified number of buses to small Texas communities that are said by officials to be overwhelmed by an influx of migrants placed there by the federal government.

In the last 24 hours, TDEM has dispatched buses to areas where communities have expressed concerns about the federal government dropping off migrants and has the capability to send as many as is necessary to fulfill the requests from mayors and county judges," Seth Christensen, chief of media and communications for TDEM, told Fox News Digital.

On Wednesday, Abbott said at a news conference that the state would be sending the migrants "to the United States Capitol, where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border."

I see the city of San Antonio settled 2 lawsuits brought by AG Paxton. Settled for 300k
In 2017 SA police found a dozen illegal aliens in a tractor trailer and released them instead of turning them over to federal authorities in violation of Senate Bill 4.
SA settled for the 300k rather than risk a trial which if they lost could have cost them 150 mil. The city had already spent over 6 million.
I think the state should have taken it to trial but now cities will think twice before violating the law.

Abbott talks big, but he won't actually send anyone to DC. He qualified a day later "if they want to go". Which sure is reasonable. But he did this for publicity. I will surprised if he does anything meaningful. He won the primary and Beto is a no go. He knows he can do whatever he wants and get away with it. "Conservatives" voted for him.

Until/unless someone "more conservative" starts talking about mandating E-Verify then you can put them all in the "conservative....but beholding to business" bucket. And they will ALL be using the "if they want to go" line. I guess what I'm saying is that you seem to put Abbott in the "not tough enough" bucket but frankly I haven't heard a single other GOP/conservative contender go hard on the E-verify front.

Yep,sure did

I doubt there will be any illegal aliens volunteer but Biden did send buses to some of the towns along the border
And those towns say BP has stopped dropping illegals into their towns.
This along with DeSantis saying he will send illegal aliens to Delaware keeps the problem in the news which the Biden people hate.

Don't forget a Huge industry that has a vested financial interest in more illegal aliens, the orgs like Catholic Charities which gets hundreds of millions of OUR dollars to "care" for the illegal aliens

There were more conservative Republican candidates who campaigned on doing more at the border than Abbott. But I guess Republicans really don't want to secure the border, because they nominated a guy they know won't do much.

There are limits to WHAT can be done by the State. AND there are MANY other issues confronting the State that the other candidates didn't want to focus on in any fashion...the last thing we need is single-issue candidates who don't recognize that can and cannot be done at the State level.

According to Fox News, “The bus pulled up at approximately 8 a.m. local time, blocks away from the U.S. Capitol building. Individuals disembarked one by one except for family units who exited together. They checked in with officials and had wristbands they were wearing cut off before being told they could go.”

“According to the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), Abbott’s plan is already working. The agency told Fox News on Monday that many of the communities that originally reached out for support – from the Rio Grande Valley to Terrell County – say the federal government stopped dropping immigrants in their towns since Abbott’s announcement on April 6,” Fox added.

Apparently they unloaded right in front of the building that houses many media outlets.:clap:
Going to be hard for those media to not cover.
Need to keep this problem in the spotlight
It is a problem for the entire country.

I thought the story was that “Biden was bussing illegals to battleground states”? The rio grande valley is a battleground state?

What are you talking about? Texas is bussing illegals to DC. And you even called them illegals. So you admit these people are illegal.

That’s why the “quotations”. I just thought the story was Biden was picking up illegals and bussing them OUT of the valley.

don’t know what you are listening to but you do still call them illegal. It’s a problem along the border.

Illegal immigration is a problem. We differ on how to address it. It was a problem back when we communicated via dialup.

It was a small ongoing problem when I lived in the Valley in my school days.
It is now a massive, monstrous problem, like a tiny mole that has turned cancerous and metastasized all over the body.

It has been a problem as long as the United States has had a controlled border. What has changed is the size and scope of the problem.
