Cale Gundy resigning from OU Football

You remember Mixon correctly.

However, outside of one other incident with a parking ticket-giver, he has been legally clean since, at least as far as I can tell.

Mixon's incident was really before he even took a class. His behavior since then (other than an aggressive use of the horns down) has been noteworthy in that it was not noteworthy other than on the field.

We all thought Cale was a turd when he was the quarterback. And, he surely was a cocky guy. He's apparently a very well thought of coach and an outstanding recruiter. I've not heard any of the high level bitching about Gundy. Word is that this is BV driven (not administration) and that Cale was adamant that he did not want to be a distraction and that's why he fell on the sword. While it seems extreme let's see how it plays out.

Now, I will preface this by saying that I remember CLEARLY standing on a youth soccer sideline about this time of year circa 1998 telling everyone that John Blake and Brandon Daniels were going to shock the world by bringing the wishbone back. BUT, get ready for some strong football out of Norman this year. They quietly reloaded with key transfers (I predict 5-7 transfer starters) and recruits. They kept the OL coach that Riley wanted to take. They brought Jerry Schmidt back and he's been beating on them for 7 months. They have the best defensive coach in football on one sideline and one of the leading OC's from the last 5 years on the other sideline. This could be a nice year in Norman.

Sounds strange, but I guess not much stranger than when Stoops abruptly retired. I thought something would come out of the wash from that and nothing ever did to my knowledge. How did we ever go from sticks and stones to being fired for readiing a word? I guess Tom Sawyer is no longer published.

Dr Boren would have used what he learned from his close association with Texas - outplacement is a beautiful thing.

Never mind that some numb nut player has that on his iPad and probably uses "the word" dozens of times a day. A white guy read it multiple times.

His life should be ruined...

:whiteflag:

Reading the ‘word’ multiple times is the what I got out of it that sounded different.
Me too. If I remember right the Gundys' dad was a wrestling coach. That, combined with Mike wearing the OAN shirt and that danged mullet. Kind of like I heard an LSU guy say about Coach O.: "We loved him because he was one of us. Turned out he was too much one of us."

Am I just daydreaming or do I really remember some political figure catching heck for reading something similar? And for pity sakes don’t tell me this should be on West Mall I’m just asking a question here.

If Cale read the whole message on the players IPad and the word was there more than once then yes he would have said it multiple times.
I read a tweet supposedly from a player there who said Gundy was reading the whole thing like a teacher might read a confiscated note and all the players were laughing.

Imo BV's second note looks like desperation.
According to Cat Gundy, the daughter, BV told the team to keep quiet with their heads down. She said the truth will come out.
:ousucksnana:
But it sounds like a railroad job. Hundreds of players have sent messages in support.
What a weird azz event

After the internal strife we have suffered under Herman, we should all know how to be more supportive of Bubba as this rift in the OU locker room plays out. Hopefully they do not find a "cure" until the third week of October.

There are "enemies" in my life I'd wish no ill will on and, in fact, would be mortified if any real tragedy would befall them.

ou is not one of those
:)

On paper it reads like this: coach shamed player while saying the N word. The folks who run the investigation are likely not in the athletics department. Instead, it will be run by an activist investigator from another department who hates football. Cale and Brent can’t say the truth of what is really happening without throwing the school president under the bus. No win situation folks!

I was hoping you would chip in.

I just hope all of the blow/u focus is on this until the end of the season. It will also do wonders for their recruiting efforts. :beertoast:

Everyone's oversight on this thread is astonishing. Lest we forget...

MC,

You understand the program. I have been warning my OU friends that Dr Boren's replacement was a cretin and they would rue the day that the stabilizing force in the Big XII would be sorely missed. They should jettison him before moving to the SEC.

(Easy for a guy to say when his school held on to Cunningham, Berdahl, Powers, & Fenves waayyyy too long.)

By gum I think you're on to something here. If you are correct that there is a coverup to protect a university official, I predict OU nation explodes when it comes out and said official will be dumped into the red river with or without his genitals.

Vol,

Red gives up its dead; Canadian is far better dumping ground with all its quicksand. I would, however, suggest OU consider an all-expense paid "vacation" to Anahuac.

I can see it now on October 8, "representing The University of Oklahoma as guest captains, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson"

Dion, I know that belongs on West Mall, but I couldn't resist. Feel free to delete if you like.
