Brietbart is so impressive

So it is a blog opinion piece when it says something ugly, but news otherwise ...

Reminded me of a speech given by one of the great ones, in a situation far more tragic and during times that were far too violent & unjust, compared to the present day. Sen. Robert Kennedy broke the news of MLK's assassination and subsequent riots to a black crowd in Indianapolis. He said the following:

In reply to:

hmm, blog breitbart is separate from news wire breitbart similar to many other outlets? is that controversial here in 2014 given the www?

On a couple of radio shows I listened to yesterday (Sharpton and Thompson), callers and hosts seemed to condone the violence. I have never understood why so called leaders feel it is okay to loot and burn local businesses and neighborhoods after such an incident occurs.

Stereotyping got you to read the article. You then stereotyped it out under the belief all conservatives are represented by Brietbart. You should really think before you post.

This OP is either an attempt to fool some into thinking it was the belief of all at Breitbart instead of an opinion piece
OR it displayed ignorance on what an opinion piece is.

When any left leaning media publishes an opinion piece, ANY opinion piece does the OP think that view is represented by everyone at the media?
On the topic I appreciated the black man interviewed as thugs ran from stores after looting .He shook his head and said "This ( gesturing to the thieves) is neither peace or justice."

Zork
Is that a real vid of BO saying he will give up leisure time and vacations if he is elected POTUS? If true that would make this take over the top spot from his other lies including the one Sunday about BO not being the one wanting to leave Iraq.

He was much less assertive on his radio show and often let callers ramble on with racist rants without objection. It is was it is. Not sure how I have stereotyped it.

But you guys keep up the hate and divisiveness rather than coming up with real solutions. Anytime someone is shot by a police officer, it is a tragedy for all involved. Starting with solutions to prevent all incidences that protect both police and citizens is a better answer than race baiting and looting.

Is Black America's favorite past time looting?

Yes or No?

Is this statement racist?

Yes or No?

Would any legitimate source of news allow this garbage to be on their website as "opinion" or just period?

Yes or No?

These are really easy questions.

paso

Freedom of speech? Many conservatives think the ultimate example of our precious freedom of speech is when someone is allowed to say something so offensive and not be arrested.

was this opinion offensive?
yes

How about we post examples of WaPO NYT even Daily beast posting insulting and offensive opinions?
Do you think waPO NYT etc espouse those opinions?

Why are you trying so hard on this when it is an OPINION?

false equivalence

a hallmark of the Right

this is a racist and demeaning "opinion" piece that should not be (and would not be) in any legitimate or even semi-legitimate news site

you think even Faux News would do something like this?

paso

As offensive as this was it was still free speech.
It is free speech when you have leftist saying they want Republicans to die
It is free speech when you say George Bush is the devil and sent Americans to die for oil .Calling someone the devil is pretty demeaning and hateful.

think there are any examples of offensive demeaning hateful opinions in any left leaning media?

Ironically, the intent of the original post was false equivalency. Liberals only believe in freedom of speech when it fits their positions.

You guys have no idea what the First Anendment does and does not do. Good grief. I am not calling for the government to censor or ban the sure. I am just calling them out on their racist stereotyping garbage.

paso
His offensive opinion has been condemned here,
but you also asked " Would any legitimate source of news allow this garbage to be on their website as "opinion" or just period? "

Isn't asking a ' legitimate source of news' to bot post what seems to be an allowable opinion( however offensive) calling for silencing free speech?

Are you opining that Breitbart should not have allowed that op?

further is it Your opinion that no "legitimate source of news" would allow anything like this?

I actually have yet to see someone condemn this.

I have seen people try to rationalize it as an "opinion" or "free speech"

you guys cite brietbart on issues and here the web site is condoning a blatant race-baiting column

and yet its news is legit?

shame

breitbart should not have allowed this on their site

this does not implicate the First Amendment

do you really think even Faux News would have allowed this on their site as an "opinion"?

BTW this piece is on the front page of breitbart and it is certainly not marked as "opinion" or some blog entry (unless it is in some fine print somewhere).

The comments make very clear how the article was taken by the target audience.

Paso
Dear Lord you are really digging. Just stop
That is NOT the front page of Breitbart.
THAT is the front page of " The Conversation"
you know as in opinion page?

and notice the writer whose opinion it is is a BLACK WOMAN.

Do you still think that opinion is racist?

How about a WaPo cartoon by a white guy calling Condi Rice " House Nigga"
is that racist? Is Wapo a legitimate source of news

Her column is racist.

It is on the front page of the website.

I do not know anything about a cartoon in the Washington Post. Perhaps you could link it and a story?

Sorry Paso
I know sometimes the interweb can be a confusing place.
This is the front page of BB
The Link

Notice all along the top are different titles like ' Big Government, Big Journalism and the Conversation

Depending on which area you want to read you open the appropriate link
and the link turns red
now go back to the link you posted in OP
Which topic link is red?

Your calling her a racist is funny.

Of course you don't remember white man (Ted Rall )cartoonist' vile cartoon with Condi Rice at Bush White House saying she was a 'house nigga". This cartoon appeared in WaPO and many more papers across the US.
It was on the OPEd page just like this opinion piece is on B'B's op page

The point being that there have always been offensive pieces on legitimate news sources OP pages for along time

Since she is a black writer, maybe she is trying to make a point that went completely over your head because you automatically assumed it was racist because it was on Breitbart?

I'm not weighing on this particular issue but the problem with sites like Breitbart, DailyKos and other partisan sites is that there is no differentiation between news and opinion. At least when you go to WaPo and other traditional media sites they have the integrity to still have an Opinion subsite. Because much of the content is published in their traditional channels also includes formal editors/fact checkers (unlike new media) it's more fact based and less opinion based.

I'd argue a good portion of posters on this board forget to discern that the source of information they are reading from has a lens that borders on opinion and less fact yet they take it as news. This phenomenon is leading to the hardening of the extremes of the political spectrum.

Husker
I ask this NOT in a snarky way but to learn.
When you go to Breitbart you can't tell the difference between one area and another?
It looks like they tried to make it clear so people would know if they visited Big Hollywood it would not have sports.
What Paso keeps referring to as the ' front page' is the front page of the "Conversation' opinion area.

Paso
BTW I did post that the piece was offensive
but now that I have reread it I think only the first par was inflammatory. If you read the entire op she makes some points
and NO She is no racist

The Link

Dude, its a blog. Here is one of the first links from this basic searchThe Link that has a simple way of separating news vs blog: The Link

Here is the main Breitbart site: The Link
Here is the Breitbart BLOG, aka "the conversation" The Link

I've never heard of the lady who wrote the BLOG piece linked in the OP.

answering a question from above:
BTW, I have no idea about the veracity of the vid concerning the President saying he would not take vacations if he were to become President. I don't believe that to be too impressive in context.
