Bob Knight Resigns

Very little fireworks out of him at the horns game, and you would think he'd be up somebody's *** in a game where his team scored 16 points in the first half. But nothing.

Guess he is "tired" like his son said

Yes, college basketball will miss the guy.

Is he just going to fade away into the sunset, only to be heard when it is time for everyone to do the upside-down thing so that his opponents can "kiss his ***," as he once requested?

I'm sure he was tired - of not being one of the top stories in college basketball now that 900 is out of the way. And of not ever being mentioned as having a Final Four caliber team.

I don't think an ego this size has had its fill at age 67. Besides attention, he obviously also likes money as witnessed by his constant endorsements. (It should be mentioned this helps the school as well, and he forfeited his base salary one year.)

Keep an eye on places like LSU and Penn State during the off-season. There will be campaigning, and he can milk it for a while like Parcells did. I think he coaches again next season.

I've loved to hate Bob Knight, but these quotes from Coach K at Duke make it harder for me to dislike him...

"Outside of my immediate family, no single person has had a greater impact on my life than Coach Knight," said Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, who played for Knight at Army. "I have the ultimate respect for him as a coach and a mentor, but even more so as a dear friend. For more than 40 years, the life lessons I have learned from Coach are immeasurable. Simply put, I love him."

Life lessons to learn from Knight, 1) don't choke your own players (only because it tends to make the administration mad); 2) advertise for every company within a 50 mile radius (it makes those people happy even if you can't win).

nah. i think he was good for the big 12. in a conference where the most senior coach is barnes at 10 years, bobby knight gave the league added notoriety and some coaching gravitas.

I've been trying to distill these contradictions for several years.

To me, it basically comes down to him only following the rules he believed should be followed, the way they should be followed. And he didn't mind ripping others when they didn't see it his way.

Not many people can tell off just about anyone they like whenever they feel like it and get away with it, but RMK was just about perfect on that score.
