BJ Foster

et,

Was David Stanley from Angleton? Not a Longhorn, but served a huge role in getting things changed. (Along with Neil Caldwell, but that's another story only for late bar hours.)

Didn’t see anywhere that you commented on Foster’s injuries and Herman putting him on the field and having him playing hurt.
I must’ve missed that somewhere.
My point is that Herman was fired, maybe that was part of his reason for being fired, small part, but playing a guy that is obviously hurt and not playing well makes no sense. Just my two cents.

Yes he was. I’m pretty sure SMU regrets signing him, or at least got caught holding the bag. Should’ve kept paying the guy.

There were huge lessons to be learned from the Stanley deal, but most schools never learned them. One important lesson is to know that if things go sideways, who has the power.

Did people in Brazoria County think Stanley was a "headcase"?

I can understand some shady commentary on BJF's coverage skills, especially against the real speed burners. But, when someone comes on here and, in effect, says: 'that guy doesn't hit very hard', that's simply nonsense. BJ Foster is a helmet cracking head hunter in the Longhorn tradition of Peavy, Gunn, Hagy, and many more. If anything, the targeting rule has worked against BJF more than any of our players. He's playing college football 10 years too late.

The speed burners that you referenced, does that include, Tyler Shough? He couldn't even tackle the pocket passer on a zone read play last week?!?!

Blake Gideon did not suck. He was a good Safety. But, like Bill Buckner, he's unfortunately remembered by some for one lousy play.

I won't comment on the other two, other than to say Brett Robin was occasionally utilized well in short yardage situations.
Sorry you misunderstood my post, but I was citing players that were actually pretty good, but received a lot of undeserved criticism on message boards.

Got me thinking. BJF might really excel as one of the two MLB's in PK's scheme. PK's prototype MLBs are around the 220 lbs range and run around a 4.6 40. Basically, the sort of players a traditional defense would want for a largish hard-hitting strong safety.

He tackles very hard.
Agree with this. He’s a hard hitter but not very good in space, and he opts for the big hit too often, rather than wrapping up. That said, I have always believed that Foster is talented. Our dilemma is that the D seems to lack a field manager type at the position, someone who can see plays develop and subtly move to an advantageous position. They just don’t anticipate well.

I do believe that so far this year, Foster is our best — albeit not great — option at the position.

Wasn’t there some guy that came on these boards saying BJ Foster doesn’t hit hard?

You’ve gotta go to the local bbq joint to see more bruised and cracked ribs than what BJ did today. What a hit to the midsection by BJF!!!

I was thinking the same thing when BJ feasted on those ribs.

Maybe that guy assumed our players read Hornfans.com message boards. :lmao:

You see, he was just motivating BJF to make some really hard hits.

I loooooooved how Foster got blocked by the 5'5", 155 lb. Stoops kid to allow the game winning TD. Yeah, he's real physical!
I'll stop now.

Good to see the defense playing better today. Let’s keep it up in the 2nd half. Offense blew 14 points in the first half.
