BJ Foster

Can someone explain to me why this guy is still a starter? He misses on plays, he avoids contact like Deoin Sanders. Last week he gave up a rushing TD to Tyler Slough! Someone please explain the upside of playing a guy that quit the team...

He is a starter because Pete Kwiatkowski says he is a starter, and Sark (correctly) hasn't overridden Pete's call. Take it up with Pete and Sark if you want to. Or maybe you could just ask BJ himself.

Let us know how that goes for you.

Didn't want to start a new thread and off topic here but news overnight has starting senior cornerback Josh Thompson out due to concussion protocol. Likely replacement is Derrian Dunn.

Are we talking about the same BJ Foster. He is one of the hardest hitters on the team. BJ's problem is that he is a step behind in coverage.

See the 3 minute mark of the highlights. BJ is too eager to come down hill and light someone up and frequently is late helping over the top.

In 2018, I thought that Sterns & Foster would be the 2nd coming of Huff & Griffin. And while BJ certainly hasn't lived up to that, I still think he's been better than all of our other safeties this season.

From the limited plays I've been able to watch the safeties, Schooler is really the only other one who "gets in" the plays. It's hard to figure out what Jerrian Thompson's role is because he's kind of a nickelback but that position is basically cloned with Anthony Cook. Foster has been the only one who reliably is playing what we've traditionally defined as "safety." Even though we typically only see that once an opponent has made a play to get into the secondary, I don't think any of that falls into fault territory.

I just wish Adimora had whatever juice we saw him playing with during glimpses of 2019-20. He's a Byron Jones type with an eye for the play and good speed. I'm not sure what Coach K saw that relegated him to the bench, but I thought for sure he would be the 2nd safety or nickel this year.

Separately, if you want to know why he is a starter, watch starting at the 5:30 mark of the above. Brendan Schooler is late in coverage, once he gets there puts his head down so he can't see a damn thing, and lays out a teammate. If that doesn't make Sports Center's "not top 10" for the week then the ESPN boys turned the game off once it was a blow out. Horrible.

Foster and Schooler are seniors and maybe picked up the system sooner. I think Adimora will be better than either of them next year.

Once the referees too away Foster’s aggressive play his first season, having to sit out parts of games due to targeting rules and injury, he isn’t the same player.
It’s easy to sit on the couch and ridicule his play. I wouldn’t want to suit up and challenge the guy and I still have faith in him!

I remember when Blake Gideon sucked, when Brett Robin sucked, when Reed Boyd sucked, etc. Usually the coach knows a lot more than the fans. Sometimes there are no better options.

I also remember the linebackers during the Mackovic era.

Hope you're right to have faith in him, but I don't see it. Maybe I'll be proved wrong.

All those guys mentioned lacked talent, but there was effort. Dusty Renfro/Winfred Tubbs ended up being pretty good.

There’s been some pretty good athletes that came out of Angleton High School that ended up on the 40 Acres.
Larry Stephens, Larry Webb, Jammer, Monroe, Diggs, Hall, Clayton Stewart (baseball), and now Foster.
As a former Wildcat myself, I have to take up for my guys!

Gotta remember that Herman put him out there to play in the secondary while still injured with one arm strapped down.
Exactly my point.smh.

Well, that didn't help Herman keep his job.
I think we just don't have any options. I don't see how that is even possible, but apparently I don't know anything (as pointed out by most of everyone.) Oh well...

One thing about secondary players is you don’t often hear much about them when they are doing their jobs well. But when they make a mistake it’s really obvious.

BJ did play hurt most of last year. He’s been a solid contributor thus far this year.

I too hope he proves you wrong. And impregnates your girlfriend.

Got me thinking. BJF might really excel as one of the two MLB's in PK's scheme. PK's prototype MLBs are around the 220 lbs range and run around a 4.6 40. Basically, the sort of players a traditional defense would want for a largish hard-hitting strong safety.

He tackles very hard.

Blake Gideon did not suck. He was a good Safety. But, like Bill Buckner, he's unfortunately remembered by some for one lousy play.

I won't comment on the other two, other than to say Brett Robin was occasionally utilized well in short yardage situations.

If impregnated said girlfriend = solid game vs Tcu, then yes I'm onboard

Look at 1:03 in these highlights. Is that the hard tackling you're talking about? Lmao

Didn’t see anywhere that you commented on Foster’s injuries and Herman putting him on the field and having him playing hurt.
I must’ve missed that somewhere.
