Big 12 Championship Game

Thank goodness that Cade Cunningham will be in the NBA next year!

And a huge congratulations to the Horns!!
Great win.
Agree about Cunningham. I do not know who we had on A. Anderson, but whoever it was won the game. Anderson was as absent in the box score as Ramey and I watch Anderson beat WV when Cunningham did not play. I hope he goes pro too.

Got to hand it to CHOP. You had the 'Horns winning the Big 12 Tourney. I did not, glad you were right.

Just hope you are right about the NCAA, if we get the tourney in.
Ditch the negative thoughts and jump on the bandwagon. This isn’t your business, your job, or your investments. This is fandom. And it’s supposed to be a fun and joyful thing! Enjoy!

We beat Kansas twice in regular season. People are thinking it’s the Kansas of old that forfeited. Forfeits happen even in non-covid years. No asterisk.

In olden days with 7 teams, the ACC regular season champion had a bye in the first round, thus only having to win 2 games for the championship. This occurred after SC left the ACC to go independent but before GT joined (from 1970 till mid-80’s). When FSU was added to make 9 teams in the 90’s, ACC had the invitational game on the day before the regular tournament started.

I wasn't too concerned about beating Kansas as much as we got a day of rest in between while OSU came in playing its 3rd consecutive day. That gave us an advantage we wouldn't have had.

Happened in the ACC on the regular for about 15 years. And, in the ACC, the tourney champ is the official conference champ.

I'm pretty sure Texas is the official Big XII champ and won't have * listed in any record books. The * may only be in my mind for a short time, but it's there now.

So you're saying the ACC would give one team out of the entire tourney an extra day of rest in the middle of the tournament on the regular?

As far as I am concerned we got screwed by not playing Kansas. That extra win might help us with tournament seeding.

It is an asterisk for sure. In the long run, it will not matter and it is good Texas can say it finally won a Big 12 Tournament. However, anyone being intellectually honest gets that Texas covid lucked into playing the #6 seed, got a day off, then played a #5 seed who was playing its third game in three days having beaten the #4 seed and the #1 seed. We never played the best team Baylor and did not have to play Kansas or West Virginia. No team in Big 12 Tournament history ever got to win a big 12 tournament by only playing two games (both Tom Penders and Rick Barnes won two tournament games before, but you normally have to win 3 or 4, something Texas still has never done), skipping the other top 4 teams AND getting a day off in between. Texas got the easiest Big 12 tournament title anyone ever had and likely will ever have. That said, glad to see even Shaka couldn't screw it up.

The regular season top finisher was given a bye for the first round. So, they only played one game to reach the final, same as Texas.

Do you know how Dean Smith won all those ACC tourneys? They only had to win one game to reach the final.

Then the entire year is an asterisk.
For every team, sport and award/championship won.
Everybody missed games or played altered schedules.
Texas played every game before them and did what they had to do.

Arguing against the legitimacy of this championship is nuts, imo. Shaka frustrates the heck out of me too, but this is a great accomplishment.

Man, this site hasn't been the same since Dionysus went on hiatus. I'm tapping out.

Not mad but I'll come back when Dion comes back :hookem:

Lets agree, there were / are / will be a lot of sports and life astericks in 2020 / 2021 - FOR ALL TEAMS / sports / people, etc.

Mostly due Covid 19, some due to social justice, politics, etc.

Regardless, LET'S ENJOY the first Big XII Tournament Championship in UT history!! :hookem:

It’s all about winning in March. The season starts over with game 1 of the tournament. Shaka has a similar team (arguably a better one now) to what he had when he got VCU to the Final Four. This team should be able to win 2 or 3 tournament games. I can see us matching up against Bama in a Sweet 16. That would be fun.

As the objective voice of reason when it comes to Longhorn basketball, I think we will indeed face Alabama in the Sweet 16.
