Best option QB ever?

Eddie Phillips and Akins were both technically better than Street. Akins was like a fullback at QB. Phillips was very gifted with the late pitch.

Hollieway was freaking awesome to watch, as were both Air Force QBs (Dowis and Morgan).

Charles Thompson was really good as well.

Frazier may be been the best of all.

I though "Tommy Frazier" as soon as i saw the title of the thread. Dude talked smack to Warren Sapp and backed it up. Still one of the greatest college QBs ever.

Salt City Sooner
How did you come to the conclusion that the fullback's...(most of those years Roger Craig) carries were called and not part of an opyion. The Power I had as many options as the bone. Not calling you out, just curious as to your view

not sure who was the best, but if i were starting a wishbone team tomorrow i would take the following:

1. Frazier
2. Jamelle
3. Charles Thompson
4. Darian Hagan

If I were running an option based attack (with more passing) I would take the following:

1. Tommy Frazier
2. Turner Gill
3. Kordell Stewart
4. Jack Mildren

Other *** kicking option qbs:

Crouch (say what you want, but that dude was tough)
Thomas Lott
Street

Kudos to ThirdCoast for being the only person to spell Jamelle Holieway's name correctly.

As for the topic, I'd put Holieway 2nd & Frazier 1st. Never got to see Street run it though.

I'd also like to give an honorable mention to someone I had not seen named: Darian Hagan at Colorado. Reminded me a lot of Holieway.

And the previous Sooner is correct. Osburne talked many times about how NU's attack was not a triple option. So did Switzer.

Oh, out of curiosity, when did UT stop running the wishbone?

I'm not old enough to have really grasped what tommy fraizer did, but considering Eric Crouch has won a Heisman (and Fraizer didn't) how is he not even in the discussion? Say what you want about Crouch, but that guy was nails, especially his heisman year.

I liked Marty Akins… but for some reason when running the option I remember him calling his own number a little too much… whether something was there or not. Anyone one else remember this?

No but i remeber him knocking off Alabama in the cotton bowl

Ut stopped running the wishbone after the 76 season. Fred Akers replaced Royal and brought in the I-formation to feature Earl Campbell.

Frazier was great,no doubt about it. Holloway was awesome before he wrecked his knee.

A couple of honorable mentions to Steve Davis at OU in '74 and '75 and also JC Watts as well.

It depends on what is meant by "best option quarterback ever?"

Tommy Frazier might have been the best athlete that played quarterback in an option scheme, but he wasn't the best option quarterback.

Eddie Phillips was the best "option quarterback."

As a practical matter, Scott Frost was the best "option quarterback" at NU, IMHO>

Those mentioning Frazier might want to remember that NU was so good that there wasn't much drop off when Frazier was sitting out for a stretch of games (injury, I believe). Jameel Hollyway gets my vote.
