Beard talking to Ole Miss

It's only a tough market because they have had a mediocre team forever. Once Beard works his portal magic and they start winning, the support will come.

The portal is filling up nicely - he's going to have some good options. Their top recruit Rashaud Marshall 4*** just re-committed after de-committing, so that's a positive start.

I presume he'll realize some success and bring some relevance to their program, but man that is a tough basketball market.

Ole Miss is his mid-major rehab gig. He won’t be there long enough to truly make their program relevant. By 2027 he’ll be at Kentucky or Kansas or another blue blood.

I think he has serious anger/impulse management issues. I hope he gets help, gets his life together and that he recovers a successful career. I wish him no ill will.

If you’re an assistant coach are you hesitant to get on board with Beard…in Mississippi?

Medium risk/Super high reward. I would if I thought he had anger issues, but wasn't an abusive partner overall. I'd need to hear him be real about his issues and assess that they weren't going to reoccur again.

Johnny Cash said it best:

Things like there ain't no good in an evil hearted woman,
And I ain't cut out to be no Jesse James,
And you don't go writing hot checks down in Mississippi,
And there ain't no good chain gang. There ain't no good in an evil hearted woman,

So they say:

Maybe in Mississippi you're not automatically considered a domestic abuser because one partner says so. Imagine that.
Maybe folks in Mississippi aren’t afraid to acknowledge that crazy-*** women exist since the state is likely full of them.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Mississippi. Growing up in Louisiana, we were ranked 49th in education, roads, just about everything in between. Mississippi was always 50th, so thank you Mississippi.

…and they consistently beat aggy, so I like ‘em, too. And my nephew went there - so there’s that. And The Grove.

this isn't a sports reality. it's just reality. someone gets fired from some place and gets hired some place else. it's how it works.

That's not the point though. Texas didn't have to fire Beard. They chose to because of optics yet Ole Miss didn't have an issue with those optics. Did something change with the Beard situation I didn't hear about that would make it ok for Ole Miss to employ him and not Texas? Are societal views different from one state university to the next? Just curious.

Could it be one school values principles and one could care less about morals and values?

Did something change with the Beard situation? Yeah, charges got dropped after we had already fired him. Ole Miss doesn't have to worry about potential prosecution - we did. That changes the optics tremendously.
