Baylor @ Texas 03/01/21 on ESPN2

I hope we matchup with Baylor in the big 12 tournament. I know it sounds ridiculous but we need that type of game before the ncaa tournament because the way the bracket it setup right now we are matching up against a great Maryland team in the second round. Who is similar to Baylor but we all know can shoot the lights out

Charlie is a transformative player. But right now, she struggles often to finish, sometimes with contact, sometimes with wide open lay ups. It's like she throws it up hoping to get the OR and put back.

With her size and skills, I would love for her to model her game after Aja Wilson. I hope Charlie stays so she can develop into a better player both to make a run next year with the super freshmen coming in and so she can develop into a better player.

But she struggles against good post players. If she's struggling against college post players, surely it ain't gonna be any easier in the pros. She got outplayed by NaLyssa Smith.

When I saw NaLyssa Smith in high school, I thought of her as a poor mans Joyner Holmes, both athletic 4's. NaLyssa has surpassed both Joyner and Charlie, both of whom were #1 national recruits for their high school class. NaLyssa was no slacker, she was a top recruit as well.

Respectfully disagree.

NaLyssa is surrounded by a better team, but from a skill perspective she is not a better player than Charli. If given the opportunity, I would not trade CC for her on this Texas team.

When did this board become so sensitive? I see posters spending more time sniping at one another and the players rather than actually analyzing the games/team.

Do me a favor her parents will be in Texas make sure you say that to him
Yeah that's a bit much. I don't feel like she is playing at the level we all know she can play at but she does bring intensity and energy on the ball. On the screen is where she gets trapped and out of position but that can be fixed on film.

Charli gets triple teamed routinely. That doesn’t happen in the WNBA. I will be (pleasantly) shocked if she stays.

Celeste had a double double in the last two games before this.

I was at the game. For the life of me, I could not discern exactly what Baylor was doing to keep that lid on our basket. It seems mental, and sadly Baylor has been in our head for years.

If there anything good to take away, it is that we defended them fairly well in both games. Better last time than this time. I like where Vic is headed. We shot 32% and only lost by 7. Mind boggling.

It's okay, next season will be a different year at least on the women's side. Texas will be in the running for that big 12 title. Hopefully Mulkey doesn't retire anytime soon knowing Texas is about to give them a challenge in the coming years
Let's be realistic. Baylor will return everyone from this season, including all 3 of their post players. They also will add one of the top post players in the 2022 class from Arkansas. And, they have the Penn State transfer Kamaria McDaniel and the Texas Tech transfer Chrislyn Carr waiting in the wings for next season. I'm not even sure Jaden Owens played tonight. Baylor will add even more offensive weapons next season, and not losing anything on defense and rebounding.

Conversely, we're most likely losing our best player, and she's a post player; and, we have no other proven post player on the roster. Yes, we'll add some new faces and get some players back from injury, but Baylor will be a senior-laden team, and we will have a bunch of "new" players trying to become a team next season.

Next year for this Texas team will speak volumes because some of you win now and know nothing about basketball teams or constructs fans are pitiful to say the least. Chalice does need to stay a year she can’t hang with WNBA Vets, Prime, or Young bucks like Tina Charles, Big Sylvia, Aja, Stevie, Sabally, or Jones period. Celeste is pressing but I believe it’s out of her feeling like she needs to be Batman to Charlie’s Superman instead of being a steady robin. As far as the team yal forget that we are young and will be even younger although more talented but still younger next year.

Great post

Also this team suffers from no comp in they gym because it this team had the threat of going 8-10 deep I think we would see better results. Charlie has no one to truly push her but next year the Juco and freshman and Gaston will mark my word if she stays. You have to know your regions and Celeste is from NY and how they get down up there is competing nest year Kyndall and Kobe will push her in the right way wether it be all big 12 /all American or to the transfer portal.

Watching the game even tho it was a lose you could see the writing on the wall BU days of being the big dog are numbered because if you were to add the 5 players we have coming in to the equation we will be just fine on the future. Believe it as well Vic will stack classes and BU classes hav been trending downwards for a couple of seasons but no one noticed because of here transfers and upper classmen. Think about this if you do the math for next year b4 this summer and transfer madness. Subtract Richards and Ursinand Carrjngton and they look similar to us this year and only having one star because Egbo gets everything off of rebounding her hustle because one on one she can’t make a play and she’s a jr

Not to toot the horn of Baylor anymore but I had no clue how bad that injury was to Richards earlier this year. Watching that video of her try to walk made me cringe. That’s a remarkable comeback by her.

I’m trying to stop typing but some of yal have triggered me because yal are so unpleased by anything. Most of us and I do mean US already had a notion of that we was gonna come up short tonight and we was all thinking a 20-30 pt blowout and we ended up losing by 7 while showing a lot of heart which means Vic hasn’t lost these women they believe in him and he believes in them. We just don’t have enough talent right now. I would even argue that if we had early season Gaston this season would be different. I seen Gaston pre injury in HS and BU smith wouldn’t want no parts of a healthy Gaston be clear on that. Then you add Moore, Kyndall, and Rori would all mind you are 3 of maybe 10-12 actual college ready HS players that could and is going to walk in the door and take some spots

Mind you in a very deep Texas HS playoffs Rori and Kyndall have not been tested yet and this week in the Regional finals they are set to rematch with a decent HS team in Shadow Creek that they have already blown out by 30 something I believe. So in conclusion CHILL YALL WE GOOD and next year keep that same energy when we have more talent, some upperclassman, and a hell of a coach that know how to build a program

Hang in there. Like I posted earlier, the effort was there, just lacking in the skill level.....and that’s on the way.

Obviously, lots of bad in tonight's game; and, luckily there was more good than in our game at Waco.

We ended each of the first three quarters making huge mistakes that were costly:

- end of 1st quarter: Kyra gets called for a charging foul, and Celeste drains the 3-pointer which did not count; cost us going up 12-10 and with huge confidence-building momentum

- end of 2nd quarter: due to the defensive and technical fouls called against Baylor, we have a chance to score 4 points and take a 25-24 lead; but, Joanne misses both her free throws and Charli only converts one technical foul shot to draw closer at 24-22. And, of course, we can't get a good shot on the technical foul possession.

- end of 3rd quarter: Audrey can only hit one free throw to cut the deficit to 47-36. With 6 seconds left, we allow Baylor to push the ball from one end of the court to the other for Carrington's layup plus foul shot for a Baylor 50-36 lead.

That's about 10 points lost. And, in what ended up being a 7 point loss, those end of quarter mistakes and failure to convert from the free throw line were costly.

Yes this will be a young team but the three freshman we have coming in are college ready. I understand Baylor has some talent but I don't understand why everyone is not realizing that Texas is going to hit the transfer portal hard. It's pretty obvious that this staff will add some big pieces to the roster next season especially if Collier decides to leave. Just mark my words. By the time the season starts you won't be saying that Baylor will run the tables on the big 12. Vic said he is impatient when it comes to winning so why would he wait 2-3 years to rebuild??

You don't know that, nor do you know who will actually be entering the transfer portal. We all thought the coaching staff would hit the transfer portal hard for the 2020 season, and we didn't hit successfully at the level A&M and Baylor hit.

Until any attrition becomes known after the season, we don't even have any additional available scholarships for next season at the moment.

So, let's temper the "mark my words" and "I guarantee you" statements unless you know with 100% certainty at the moment (which you can't since any true difference-maker transfers haven't even announced their intentions to enter the portal yet).

And, I never said that Baylor would run the table in the Big 12 next season. I said they will be more offensively talented and experienced than they are this season, with no drop-off in their rebounding and defense.

Mark my words, I guarantee a B12 title and a final four appearance next season. A year from now come back to this post and tell me I’m wrong. Until then :hookem::arrow-up:

No we didn't think that because by the time Vic and his staff took over majority of the top players had already decided where they wanted to go. There was little time to get someone to back out of a commitment or change their mind. This year it's a fresh start. I'm not even going to go back and forth, I'm just letting you know that we will add some players from the portal. Take it as you want but I'm saying next years team will challenge Baylor for a big 12 title.

Exact things that really frustrated me. I would also add the misses unguarded right under the basket that Middle School players make 99x out of 100. I'll give this team an A for effort, but like I said a few years ago, you don't compete for conference championships, much less NC's with a bunch of Briana Taylor's on your team.

That effort woulda beat OU by 15-20. I would rather reverse the efforts and at least win a game we should've won pretty easily. That's another thing that's so frustrating with this team. Fortunately, help is coming, but it's still going to be 2+ years before we're competing for CC's.
