Baylor @ Texas 02/27/2023

Unfortunately, we have to leave all the glory of the OU beat-down right where it happened in Lloyd Noble Arena. We have to move on and get focused for senior night in Austin in two days. Baylor just might still be the team we want to defeat the most.

Vic has expressed his dislike for the Saturday/Monday schedule and it's happened for us these past two weeks. However, I kind of like it as it simulates the NCAA tournament format:
*Win
*Be happy
*Forget that one
*Get ready for the next

ESPN reported an “altercation” between the Texas MEN’s program and Baylor WBB (there’s video) this morning when the women were using the court when Texas showed up for pregame with Baylor in Waco. The women’s team eventually left the court. With the short turnaround for the double header today apparently communications were a little fuzzy.

That’ll be fuel for someone. Damn!

Very unprofessional of Baylor.

Baylor women also had a home game today so somewhat tricky scheduling for all.
Again, a lack of professionalism on the part of their coaching and admin staffs. The practice and shoot around schedules should have been clearly coordinated. It's their facility and they are responsible.

I'd give high odds it was just another way for one of the welfare queen athletic departments to try to stick it to Texas on our way out of the conference.

No doubt about it. Baylor WBB wasn't going to play until 5pm (unlike the men who scheduled for 1pm), their opponent was Tech (2nd to last in conf.), and its their own damned home gym that they should be REALLY familiar with - so why do they need some "extra practice" there? Why they thought they should get priority before the men's game when this was the Texas Men's teams only chance for a shootaround is beyond me. Its almost like the bailer athletic dept. used the women's team to go try to screw with Texas' men's team before what was clearly a big road game. This kind of BS needs to draw a fine or teams will try to replicate it.

My Gameday email received today for tomorrow’s game says they will honor Seniors Femme and Annissa with no mention of Sonya. ???

That's a real oversight. Everytime Vic's mentioned it he seems to only mention Sonya. I really hope she at least gets to play a little in the event that is being held, at least in part, in her honor.

Nice that they fit this in for us between games, especially since there is only one day between games this time. Some good content in this one too. When he said Gisella gets some shots up on those road trips - I assume he means Jordana too? Seems like their injuries happened around the same time.

ESPN better not split screen the third quarter to interview a former player rather than letting fans watch the game. Still cannot believe we were forced to listen to Didi Richards for 20 minutes when we played in Waco.
:soapbox:

Looking forward to seeing the game in person. Hope those of you in the Austin area can come out to support the seniors and graduating players. Need to hit the 10K in attendance goal. It has been quite some time since we were competitive against the Bears on our home court. Baylor travels well down here and they always are up for our team. Need to bring the defense as we did in Norman.

Reminder: In Waco Jones fouled out mid 4th quarter; Gonzales, Faye, Gaston played with four fouls; and Rori went out with an injury with 3 minutes to play. Final score 68-55 which was the fewest points scored by Baylor all season. Attendance in Waco was 5,500. We are expecting 10,000 in Austin.

Yea I don’t see Baylor traveling as well to Austin this go around because they’re not even traveling to the Ferrell like they have in years past.

Nevertheless, I certainly don’t see this as an easy win as they’re desperate for something good to happen for them. They just recently went thru a four game losing streak in conference which hasn’t happened since Sonja Hogg’s last season and it was a bitter pill.
It’d sure be nice to clinch at least a share of the regular season title against them. Seems to me it would clinch the title since OSU faltered and we have the tiebreaker over OU though.

There are only two players listed on senior night poster tweeted out by program. Anissa Gutierrez and Femme Masudi.

Either they plan on asking for an injury exception (I think she played too many games) or she asked not to do senior night.

That's a good point. Sonya already received her degree from DePaul, so maybe she doesn't want to be considered a senior. She definitely won't have any eligibility left after this season (unless she had an injury season before that we don't know about).

I seem to recall a press conference before her injury where Sonya and Vic were encouraging people to come out to her Sr. Day. At that time, she was okay with being honored at Sr. Day.

Whatever the reason, I hope it's good news.

I'll just say that we better be ready tonight. Baylor isn't going to come into Moody uninspired, and they do play well at times. A win for us clinches at least a share of Big 12 regular season title and guarantees us the #1 seed in the conference tournament. Let's get it!

As of this morning, we still needed about 225 more fans to hit 10K. This 6 pm start time for the game really sucks. We are not on the east coast and traffic in Austin really sucks. We need to start pushing for the 8 pm time-slot when ESPN wants to run these weekday games (or at least 7 pm which we would have had with LHN). And its not even on the regular ESPN networks - its an ESPN+ game, so why make us play at 6 pm? They are running 3 really awful games at 8pm involving unranked teams. Its not like they had something better lined up at 8.
