Baylor Game 1

Nice, let's get a 2 game win streak going on Sat.

150 pitches?

Is that serious?

It's great and all that he was still pumping it after 140 pitches. But a conference win is not worth jeopardizing a young man's potential professional career even if the young man says it's okay. A coach needs to know better than that.

Especially with a 12-1 lead. That's just absurd. Very disappointed in Augie.

This 150 pitch effort won't be soon forgotten by our rivals. I know I gave CSF a bunch of grief for how Romero pitched over 250 pitches in that weekend championship with us in 04'.

That is a bad reputation that is ****** to shake.

Great freakin outting though by Ruffin and our boys at the plate. Excellent!

It sounded on the radio like there were more UT fans than Baylor fans there.

Congrats to Skip Johnson for seemingly getting this pitching staff together. I was extremely critical of him following Mizzou. Hopefully this is a trend and not a phenomenon.

1. The pitch count was 160. That is inexcusable, especially with that type of lead. No reason to keep him in the game.
2. I don't care if Ruffin wanted out or not, a coach needs to be smart. This is a young arm, you cannot have him pitching 160 pitches at this point in conference.
3. Abusing arms like this will be used against Augie when it comes to recruiting. Parents do not like seeing their kid's arm put at jeopardy.

Great win and Great job by Ruffin, but having him pitch that much was a mistake.

Ruffin, Chance...... 9.0 7 1 0 2 11 35 38 150

Skip should have stepped up and said Son Thanks but lets the bull pen do the rest.

That's what it looked like (Ruffin refusing to leave). I knew this would become an issue...but he wanted to prove to himself he could do it AND win. He will get plenty of time off as someone else said. We have next weekend off. Let's just hope this good pitching is a sign we are coming together as a team.

That is crap. A pitcher in this situation is never going to want to come out, coaches need to have enough balls to do what is right.

MediaMan,

Ruffin is a fuckin gamer. It's in his blood. He bleeds burnt orange and he eats up competition for ******* lunch. This team had needed a leader all season long. He's filled that role and kicked it in the ***. He's the freaking second coming of Huston Street if you ask me. (Who threw a lot of pitches saving all four games of the 02 CWS by the way) Augie knows how to win championships and this type of player/performance is what it takes. Please just sit back and enjoy watching such a gamer wear the burnt orange.

Gustafuson could not recruit the big name pitcher's end the end because he had gained such a reputation for ruining pitchers or atleast not caring about their well being by constantly throwing them Friday and relieving them on Sunday.

Street was a reliever, he was never throwing 150 pitches in a game. Yes he pitched a lot in the CWS but those games had days of rest between them and it really was not that many pitches.

As long as it doesn't become a trend and Chance gets to rest, fine. Let the fish get the complete game. He deserved it. But, let's hope hes done for the week.

Ram

but that is my point. Agaisnt OSU this season, Ruffin through 10 innings and then was brought in for relief on Sunday. That is just not right.

Coming on here and saying that he threw 160 pitches is just a lie. A pitch count of 150 is bad enough without having to lie about it.

yeah, probably not. Unless it was a "get one guy out" scenario. I didn't play high level baseball, but younger kids do bounce back better than us old guys.

Wow you get upset about hitting a 6 instead of a 5, but having a freshmen pitch 10 innings and then pitching relief on Sunday does not bother you. Or having a freshmen pitch 150 pitches when the game is in hand does not bother you.

Ram

Against OSU in relief he faced three batters and did not get anyone out. All reached base (one by Ruffin's on error, the other two had a single and triple) and all three scored.

Let's not forget what happened to Rice's big 3. They all got drafted high and all missed full seasons with serious ligament surgeries.

And I think Graham has changed his ways because of it. But Graham was bashed for the way he handled his ptichers for years. He was notorious for throwing them too many innings and on very short rest.

It wasnt smart, most of us agree or see different sides of the situation, but cussing someone out and all is totally uncalled for on this website. Let's settle down, okay?

Media Man,

It's pretty easy to call someone out on the internet isn't it? Hard ***. I bet you've kicked more *** and ****** more ***** than anyone on this board haven't you? I've forgotten more about UT baseball in the past 5 minutes than you'll ever know in your whole life. So chill the **** out.

not thrilled about pitching Ruffin 150 pitches, and then using KK twice in one week. That's just too many innings for those guys.
