Baker....another Heisman QB Mack didn't recruit??

There is an element of "best fit". Vince fit Texas' system perfectly. So does Baker Mayfield at OU. It's hard to say you could plug anyone into anyone's offensive scheme and they'd be the same....so, it's the best player on one of the best teams.....
ONLY after GD and MB FINALLY let "Vince be Vince" in their words. Before that, it wasn't worth a tinker's damn!

Rick, Greg Davis created Vince Young, and until you admit it, I'll find it hard to take you seriously....bwahahahahhahaha...ok couldn't keep a straight face....

Do you know Mayfield personally or is your opinion based on his words and actions? Would you be as interested if he was the same guy with the same on field results if he played for Arizona State?
I'm not that interested. I never started a thread, or an in-person conversation about him. But I have an opinion on his antics. I don't like them.

If I had to think about this in different contexts, then I would say I'm more willing to put with guy's crap if he isn't the alpha/team leader. His OU-ness might have a little effect, but not much. I don't like punks. Even talented ones. And I don't want them seen as the leader of my team.

I wished Charlie was a better coach, but I really liked how he conducted himself. Was I OK that he was let go? Yes, because I want a winner. But I want the school to pick another classy guy to try and win. Would I want a big asshat if it guaranteed us championships? No.

You're interested enough to post on this thread 4 times. There's a name for people who reserve the right to criticize others without knowing them for themselves but criticize others for doing the same. It's hypocrite.

Picking a quarterback is a crapshoot. The best qb in the NFL was a late round pick and wasn't even considered the best qb on his Michigan team. Garrett Gilbert should have been an All-American and NFL starter by now. No one could have predicted Colt would have the college career he had. No one knew Cam Newton, when he fell into Gene Chizik's lap at Auburn, would be as good as he was. Did Texas offer Drew Bree's? I can go on and on. Good for Mayfield.

Moondog, I'm with you but as I've posted on maybe this thread or others, the Heisman trophy isn't necessarily about choir boys......on the field performance, inspiring the team, etc.....one may have a tough time finding excellent play on the field yet no skeletons/inadequacies....

I couldn't see anybody but Mayfield winning it out of the three they had up there.
That being said, the Heisman is a joke and has been since Bush won over VY if not before.

lol several of my posts are because of you, not Baker. I'm totally ok criticizing behavior. I try not to make generalizations of character with people I don't know. You're pretty adept at that though.

My comments have all been about his behavior caught on video and audio. My comments have been focused on just those behaviors. I haven't said anything about how he treats old ladies or orphans. I didn't say you should protect your daughters from him. His on field record shows bad sportsmanship in an uncontrolled manner though. I wouldn't want it on my team.

In terms of criticize others without knowing them for themselves, here are your previous 15 posts, uncut and unedited....
You're right. They're equally easy. What exactly do you believe my ulterior motive to be because I'm pretty damn sure what those on your side are?
Easy to be noble in a hypothetical.
14/16 participants so far suggests they're far from meaningless. The two who didn't both passed the eyeball test at 11-1. And who the hell would you have put in over Alabama? The argument two of the best 4 can't be from the same conference is made by someone with a petty agenda.
Norman Watkins.
OSU beating Wisconsin by 50+ again won't be enough. OU wins they're in. SEC winner is in. And if it's Auburn then a great chance for 'bama. In that scenario no way OSU goes ahead of them. Clemson in with a win and Miami is possible with the upset.
By turning one of the historically worst programs in history into a competitive one and winning more games than they had in decades. And please tell me your kidding on Ray Rice. Years ago I had one former student murder another. Explain how that was my fault and I'll get back to you.
B.J Johnson. Had the 2 drops against Oregon and some others here & there but fell victim to the "lynch-mob mentality" employed by so many to delude themselves into believing they're brillant and important.
Schiano is a damn good coach. The "twitterstorm" and vol fans, boosters, and administrators participation and reaction was a disgrace. He should sue their chickenshit asses into oblivion. And they're my second favorite team.
The top 4 threads are directly or indirectly about Sumlin. And they're the ones obsessed with us. Yeah right.
You'd be right if he was being sarcastic. But he wasn't so you're not.
It's official. Recognizing sarcasm is dead. But thanks for your interest Mr. Lives on the Fuckin' Internet.
Further proof anyone can create a website. More likely aggies bring him back.
And if someone had posted prior to the season this was a distinct possibility they would have been laughed off the board.
Oh but don't you know he's been lights-out this year. I know it's true because I read it on Hornfans. Hope he enjoys that 3rd or 4th round money.
Hill goes 5th round or lower if at all. Omenihu is a free agent. The overrating of the talent on this team knows no bounds.

You seem angry. You belittle people that you don't know a lot in personal ways.

Kinda rude

Please don't groan or flame me; but if you do, I understand. But imagine (here it comes) if Cam Newton had acted EXACTLY as Baker did. Do you think the media would treat it the same way?

I thought Cam Newton left Florida because of a theft charge. Also thought his preacher father shopped him around for $100k. Somehow still played, still won the Heisman, still made it to and stars in the NFL. BUT he did have the audacity to say that a question was funny because it came from a female reporter, because he thought it was funny. I don't really care about that but let's make sure we understand that the spotlight is on everyone is this situation, regardless of race (and maybe less because of it these days)

Good points all. I was just wondering how it would have played out had his senior year gone like Baker's. Maybe no difference.

Let's see how snowflake does vs Clemson. He's had a nicely paved path so far (tOSU is a different team now than on Labor Day weekend), I'm just not wowed by the guy. He has a lot of time to throw, has top level receivers to throw to, and plays in a weak conference. Beat Clemson, I'll be impressed

i respected and liked Bradford. Class guy, good kid, good qb. Mayfield isn't the player Sam was, it's that simple

Montana 2.0 may be a stretch, but we'll see. Baker's mobility may be hindered by the speed of the NFL. Can he be the next Drew Brees? Let's hope for his sake the Browns don't get him....

it's an example of an acceptable process for me...choose a good guy to see if he can win over a jerkoff you know can win.

It is possible that one with that perspective will never win a championship. I would say that any coach including MB that has won a title probably had more than a few of his star players that had some skeleton/baggage that was swept under the rug. Johnny Football and Mayfield are two examples of the brash, out in the open, "jerkoff" (if you will) that isn't hiding anything. Similar to the Dallas Cowboys of old, Tom Landry put out a certain image, one that everyone embraced (Mack Brown) vs what really happens behind closed doors (or at night).

And I'll add that the "acceptable process" you speak of will not sit well with the "big cigars" that give large sums and expect results on the field. They don't pay to see choir boys and 4.0 gpa's.....

perh
In the context of the conversation it's a red herring.
I'll admit that I was replying to a part of the post and perhaps not the origin of the post. I imagine once a thread gets going one doesn't know where it'll end up....

that might be true. and i'm not wanting perfection. i would like to see them try and have a preponderance of evidence that they're trying.

I'd like to say I'm not jaded by the past but I'll try and believe in this ideal, that it could happen....win without jerkoffs......

and i like brash. i don't think brash guys are jerkoffs. can i define what the difference between a good, but brash dude looks like compared to a jerkoff? "i know it when i see it" is the best way to define it. grabbing your dick and telling the other sideline to "ef off" isn't brash in my opinion. hitting an opposing player in the helmet with a thrown ball in pregame isn't brash in my opinion. I'm good with swagger and bravato. brashness is not my issue.
