Austin Restaurant Icon Closing

Never a big fan of Jaime's. That said, I know lots of people who liked it, so it's kinda sad from that perspective.

Of course, it would be great to have a good place to eat and drink right across from Stubb's for a little pre-concept preparations.

Wow! El Patio doesn't serve saltines as a matter of course anymore?! That might be more a loss of an Austin icon than Jamie's. I haven't been back there since we had lunch there back in '02 when we'd both came down in July after we'd won the CWS.

El Patio, Uisge, Texanne and Longhorn Girlie..... the harem lunch.... long story, good times. It's sad when any town looses anything that has good memories attached to it. RIP Jaimes, even though I'd never been there. RIP saltenes and fresh tortilla chips at EP. RIP ..... well , all that....

no...no...El Patio still serves fresh made 'shells'...you just have to order and pay for them, like always. They are worth every penny. They replaced the crackers, as starters, with mass produced tortilla chips...so David says, due to customer demand. Crackers are available on request, but the last time I was there they gave me the 'salad' kind...two to a pack...too much effort and too messy.

Never been there, but I LOVE their queso and garlic/jalapeno salsa that Central Market sells. Hopefully they will find a way to still sell it.

There has been an El Patio in the mexican food business here in SA for MANY decades and I'd bet that's who makes the product for Central Market. They started out, I think, making mexican food TV dinners.

What CottonEyedHorn said. I loved that place even though the food never quite lived up to my expectations. My Dad never wanted to go there because of there was always somewhere better, which usually meant good food in a sterile atmosphere.
