Austin Regional June 3-6, 2022

Hansen was left in too long. Should have been pulled when he hit the batter . I mean geez, after he puts one on and then beans the next batter with 112 pitches?!?!

Hansen has done great just poor management there

Nice work by Pete Hansen.

And AF has a good lineup.

Only beef: Coach kept him in there a few batters too long.

You see those stats they put up on the screen for Olivarez. By far the best in our pen. Wish we used him more throughout the year.

I don't know much about Olivarez other than the fact that he has the lowest ERA on our pitching staff (0.42). I've often wondered why we haven't pitched him more (he's only pitched 21 innings).

He was called safe but walked away, not sure why
so second basemen tagged him
them ump called him out
It was finally decided he was safe and ended up back at second

Enter Cobb and his sidearm motion.

Possibly saving Olivarez for an inning or two in game 2 or 3?

Longhorn Victory!!!

11-3

This was Huge!!!

Hansen + Olivarez, then Cobb pitched a good game.

The bats were hot, and we lit up the scoreboard. Skenes was mostly a non-factor today. Our batters worked the count and got his pitch count over 100 in around the 4th inning or so.

I've never been this happy over beating a 4 seed before--although this AF team isn't just any 4 seed, not with Skenes on the mound.

I don't know who I'd rather face: DBU or La Tech. They're both good, though not great, teams. La Tech has good stats/numbers this year. But DBU has a history of tearing it up in regionals, and their RPI has been high all season.

Both are dangerous and everyone knows how our bullpen has done over the season.

Folks, we were driving them in, clutch hitting, and not leaving too many men straded on the bags today!

Our Bats were hot
I count 12 hits. That's outstanding!

Our #1 National Fielding % Matters
Also, UT has the #1 fielding % in the country. Errors on us are few and far between. Early in the game, Air Force got to see what a few errors (on AF's D) can do to your momentum and to the scoreboard. Our first point or two were largely due to Air Force errors.

Have to wonder if no Tristan today means that Pierce is leaning toward him as game three starter. After last week in Arlington I would think that he may be best option at that spot rather than as closer/relief. Tomorrow will tell.

Could be, or DuP as a starter for an inning or two, then 4-5 + innings of Tristan...? Sthele has looked good for an inning or two, but not so much after that.
