Augie arrested for DWI and suspended

Some people take chances? What a stupid comment. My family drives those same roads....he doesn't get to decide to take chances with THEIR lives. Taking a chance is going swimming with the sharks, driving with an out of date tag, trying to make it somewhere with very little gas. Getting blitzed and then driving down the road is being a CRIMINAL (if found guilty) NOT a risk-taker. With the 10s of 1000s of lives destroyed by drunk drivers, how can you possibly sit here and GLORFY them by calling them risk takers? Even when I was a full blown coke head drunk, I NEVER did that, and my salary was considerably less than his....I ALWAYS had a cab, or a friend...something.

He has made a mockery out of The University, and needs to go.

Did I miss something? Was he convicted of drunk driving or charged with it? I guess all people charged or arrested by APD are guilty. Cedric Benson comes to mind. Lets wait for the process to finish shall we!

Every time someone drives drunk 10 babies die. Madd told me so and that is why he should be fired.

5 glasses of wine makes one intoxicated? Are yo usure?

Maybe he was trying to earn favor with the cop by saying he was intoxicated?

Bottom line, we have no facts. What we could assume is he was pulled over with alcohol on his breath. Doesn't mean he was drunk.

He got stopped for not having his headlights on. Doesn't say how long he drove with them on. Maybe he had just left and forgot to turn them on initially...because no one does that. He refused to blow and give blood which is auto DWI I believe. Perhaps he didn't want to submit because he wanted to give them a big FU. We don't know how drunk he was really. Or that he was so drunk to be so impaired to drive. Should he have gotten behind the wheel afer drinkin? Some will say hell no, some will say, if he know he has a high tolerance, maybe no.
Some of you throwing your holier than thou bull$hit should take a break. You don't know if he was really drunk at all. He wasn't stopped for swerving or hitting cars or running red lights. The cop smelled alcohol. Tell me the last time a cop didn't smell alcohol after stopping anyone downtown at 1am? He may very well have been drunk as hell, but we'll never know. Get over yourselves.

BHUD,

It is not a good chance to take, given the way we now treat those who may have only had a 2-3 drinks - and choose to drive. He admitted to drinking 5 glasses of wine. Probably over 2-3 hours or more. Did you see his mugshot, he looked attentive as hell. Getting blitzed and and even coked-up (as in your case) and driving would be a HUGE chance to take with your own life and your family (who I hope you dont let out on the roads too much at 1AM). Having a few drinks and knowing that you can make it a short distance home is a chance you take now, cause if you get caught nowdoys it can cost you your career and ruin a well- earned and deserved legacy. Its fricken sickening and I feel the same way about your point of view.

If that calculator is correct and he was being truthful, which he probably was given that most people who are lying say "I've had only one or two" and he admitted to five - then maybe he should have blown. But he did the right thing, imo b/c how do you know you can trust that machine given he was probably so close to the limit. We dontknow for sure but he looked pretty good in the photo for being SO DRUNK that his career should now be over b/c he chose to drive home.

On the list of transgressions that should expose someone to get fired, this is very, very far down.

He shouldn't have to be fired. He should man up and do whats right.. Resign...

No, actually that's not messed up, cehorn. What's messed up is the man driving drunk. I've had valets turn the lights off of auto on my car, and I've always been sober enough to realize to turn the lights back on.

What a pathetic excuse

I agree that while serious, the incident should not lead to the firing of Coach Garrido, because to me there is a big difference between doing something that might cause harm and actually harming someone. Answering a cell phone has been shown to be just as dangerous as driving while intoxicated in two different studies I have read.
Should we fire employees who use their cell phone while driving?

LOL at the BAC calculator, courtesy of ou.edu

So do either Eddie V's or J Black's serve an 8oz glass of wine? That's what the BAC calculator is based on.

Everyone needs to take a step back and let the people that have the job to handle this do so.

As usual, for whatever reason, we have plenty of people here overreacting FAR too much and some on the other end of the spectrum. Regardless of your opinion of what should be done or what my opinion is of what should be done, at this time I'll support Dodds and the University in whatever their far more informed decision will be. And that decision will probably take some time to make once they have enough information.
