Assessing the QB Situation

Rarely have I seen Sark answer a question with an “edge.” He did when that question was asked. I like it.

In fact, his whole attitude I’m that presser was different. An attitude.
Yes, attitude has been different since start of camp.

On the QB situation...
247 saying Hudson Card is being treated for a high ankle sprain and didn't take any snaps on Monday.

If he's not noticeably better by Thursday, Sark is expected to roll with Charles Wright against UTSA.

OB reporting there is hope Card will play. All depends on how he responds to treatment this week. Perhaps it’s not as bad as feared.

I guess it's about whether you think you can protect him. If he's not going to get hit every other play, and he doesn't have to run full speed that often, he might be OK enough to still be able to move in the pocket and make the throws, especially if you're going to try and run the ball a bunch, which we almost surely will.

Am I the only one who thinks 247 and OB should keep their mouths shut re: Hudson Card's availability this week ? Damn click bait

"Back in the day" reporters did not "report" everything they saw or heard

Coach Sark obviously wanted to keep it under wraps

ok, rant over :hookem:

Even if they think he can maybe be ok, why risk reaggrevating it in an out of conference game when we look likely to need him healthy for another month or so.

Baylor in 2015 put on a clinic of how to run an offense when you have multiple talented WRs and RBs but all your QBs are injured. Threw it together on the fly against us in the 2nd half and almost came back from a 20-0 deficit. Then with a few weeks to practice it, they put up 650 yards on the ground in their bowl game.

To your point Stat
Sark was asked how difficult it was to game plan not knowing who the QB was.
He said it was not as difficult as losing your starting QB early in first qtr
He said you just planned schemes that worked to different Qbs strengths.
In Sark I trust

If there's any real chance of further injury (yes, it's football & injuries are ALWAYS possible), I'd prefer to give Wright a start. Card couldn't plant his foot & get fully behind the long throws after the injury. Would hate to see the injury exhaserbated. I trust the trainers & coaches to make the call. Hope he is well enough to go, but if not I feel good about Charles getting a start.

I'm praying the defense doesn't get picked apart by the passing game. That weakness was exposed last weekend.
Speaking of weaknesses, what refs will be working the game? :soapbox:

How is the defense picked apart last weekend? Most of the time Young couldn't find a receiver to throw to because the coverage was so good. They only scored 20 points. They went three and out six times. Where was our defense exposed and picked apart?
Young threw for 213 yd. We threw for 293 yards.

You take a moderate risk because you want to get out front and put the other team in a hole. Get ahead two TD's and then run wildcat or put in Wright. You want to win the game Bad! Get ahead and then play Wright. Go conservative with him to avoid turnovers

Yep, even the announcers went on and on about it.

I’d assume 71 is referring to the final two Bama drives. They did have some dropsies too.

We played our tails off. Will need to bring that emotion each time out.

You can’t run 5 wide every series. Defense will adjust over time. It worked for Bama in the last 2 series BECAUSE YOU GOT A FRIGGING HEISMAN TROPHY WINNER AT QB!!!

And Ryan Watts forgot how to wrap up and the refs missed an obvious hold.

We’ve been waiting a lotta years for obvious holds. Be thankful there weren’t more.

I’m not sure what I’ve said on the board versus rolling around in my head, but these guys had quite a few moments last year and really no good luck (or calls). Those who chose not to have hope coming into this year chose to focus on the negatives. If we’re being honest, if the Sooners WRs were as stoned handed as Bamas, we likely win last year by 4 TDs.

Now maybe the defense believes in themselves so that momentum builds.
