Assessing the QB Situation

Thought this might be an appropriate thread.

We all know about QE, but if Card can’t go, is it Wright? What is Murphy’s status? Is he cleared to play?

My assumption is that Roschon may see more than a few snaps. In fact, if Card can’t go, that would be my preference. I think that he is more than capable of leading the offense.

I wouldn't mind seeing Roschon getting the ball more because he seems to always make something out of nothing. Hard runner.
Bama did a good job holding down Bijan.
man we could easily be 2-0 right now.
THIS YOUNG TEAM PLAYED WELL!

Duke,

Were you sitting near me yesterday? I was screaming for Roschon to be put in as QB. He may be the smartest player we have. He is a leader. He has the arm and has made the throws. We were one sack away from having Ewers and Card both in the training room, if not over on 15th Street.

SH, while I was not at the game — cannot handle the heat — I believe that Roschon creates a serious dilemma for any defense. I trust Sark but man would I love to see RJ at the position this weekend.

I expect Sark to insert some new pages into the playbook featuring RJ. One I wanted yesterday was putting him in motion, suddenly going under center, and going up the middle when we needed short yardage.

Bama was too quick and playing WRs too tight for a double pass to him. The kid has a good arm, probably stronger than Card.

If you feel like a week off will get Card to around 80 percent or so in a week, I think you have to sit him this week, but with that kind of sprain, I'm wondering whether it would make that much difference unless you sat him for three or four? In which case, seems like you have to just role with it and try to protect him as best as you can.

Surgery went well yesterday. Card back at practice today.

Yeah, Sark talked about him in today's PC. Said really good things. (8:20)

I like me some Sark. "Better never rests." Love it. 2's, 3's & 4's have to become 1's, 2's & 3's. 1's have to get better than last week. Resting on laurels belongs to somebody else. Tommy Nobis is the standard. Vince Young is the standard. Freddie Steinmark is the standard. Try to beat THAT.

I truly believe that Sark gets it. At least I hope so.

How about Randy McEachern’s example? Top two QBs went down against OU and he came in and led us to an undefeated season (until the Cotton Bowl).
Was there. Mark McBath and then Jon Aune.....but lets not forget we had Earl, Lam Jones, Russell Erxleben and one of the best defenses UT has ever had. Don't think we are quite the same team now.

If Card can't plant and the defense knows he can't make long throws, better to have Wright or Ballard playing at 100% so the defense can't put 9 in the box and press all the receivers like mad. Or even Roschon in the wildcat if Sark remembers he can throw the ball occasionally too (we ran like a dozen trick plays for Jaxon when he was here, most of which succeeded, we've only run 2 or 3 with Roschon - and unlike Jaxon, Roschon was actually recruited as a QB).

It doesn't matter - whoever it is will get every blitz and packed box known to man thrown at them until they show that the Texas QB has a pulse and can actually throw an out or deep.

Look for a wheel route or two.

Wright, Roschon, a hobbling Hudson, or some guy we’ve never heard of could move the ball, score points, and lead us to victory with these skill players, Sark’s play designs, and this decent-blocking OL.

OU will be the only team we face on the schedule whose talent even approaches Bama’s. Now WV’s D front will be almost as good, but that’s just one unit on the team.

Chop,

I'm going to disagree on outcome but will give you talent level. I expect Traylor to throw wrinkles at us to take advantage of a bruised and battered defense, and again attack our offense making us prove we can move the ball and put it in the endzone. I haven't seen the kid from Austin High, so I'm hoping Sark gives them a huge dose of Roschon.

It's hard to be worried about a defense that gave up 70 to Kansas.
