A'Shawn Robinson

Just looked at Rivals and he is listed #33 overall and not committed to any team. They list his interest in Alabama as HIGH and Texas as LOW.

I find it odd that anyone thinks Mack Brown is capable of generating the buzz around this program that he was able to when he arrived. Folks.... it ain't happening with him. He had an awesome run. It's time to begin turning the page.

OB is reporting that he told Saban on Thursday he's going to 'Bama and broke the news to Texas on Friday. They've taken him off of the list of UT recruits.

Come on Mack, work your curse.

Yep... on all of the above!

This is the RIGHT decision and quite frankly, I would have made the same decision.

A'Shawn is smart. I have said this before, if my son is a top recruit and has NFL potential, there is no ******* way he ends up playing for Mack Brown unless his position coach is named Akina and I, as a parent, am convinced that Akina will coach my son for all 3-4 years.

WashU,

I hate what you just posted. But I agree that Alabama's D-Coordinator compared to Diaz is a giant vs. a midget. Skins on the wall vs. confusion and chaos.

We needed Ashawn and he could have helped our D-line and/or our O-line.

i think Ashawn would see significant playing time here next year. Not so much at Alabama. Plus his parents could easily attend lots of games close to home had he stayed here.

I'm not sure Ashawn made the right decision. But for his sake, I hope it works out for him, where ever he goes.

UT's recent history of DL on NFL teams is not too bad:

Acho, Melton, Redding, Randall, Robison, Rogers, Houston, Miller, Orakpo & Hampton.

Not too shabby.

I have often wondered why DE Coach Oscar Giles doesn't get more acclaim. Several of his DEs have been college studs and also made it into the NFL.

DT Coach Bo Davis seems to be good as well. He was on the Alabama staff for several years before coming to UT so his resume is not too shabby either.

Just saying, the Texas DL opportunity should not be considered a sinkhole where promising careers are lost.

I am still hoping that UT will pick come out on top with at least one of the the two DL targets.

I say Mack should pull committments on recruits that take visits to other schools after committing to UT. Isn't that what Mack used to do? Pull the commit on these guys and don't look back.

This is the price of keeping Manny. Or rather the most recent price, its certainly not going to be the full tab. We are gonna have a John Mackovic defense when it is all said and done.

Agreed.

Come to Alabama and compete for a NC under DC Kirby Smart.

Come to Texas and compete for the worst defense in UT's history with Manny Diaz.

Mack's retention of Diaz is mindboggling. Mack is completely out of touch with reality.

Below from Max Olson @ ESPN

"Davis, the Longhorn defensive tackles coach, did an in-home visit with Robinson on Saturday morning. Since then, multiple reports have cited sources saying Robinson told Davis he's going to Alabama."

"I don't know how that story came about," Robinson said. "All I told him was I couldn't come to Texas, that Texas wasn't the best fit for me. I don't know where that story came from."

"The ESPN 150 defensive lineman insisted he is currently uncommitted and won't announce his decision until 2:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday. He's not happy that the news got out Saturday that his decision had already been made."

"Texas leaking that story made me kind of mad," Robinson said. "They kind of tried to ruin the moment for me. Them leaking the story made me mad. I stopped considering them when I told them I was decommitting."

We messed up his hat game on signing day.

Beat me to it, NB.

Wow. The recruit who didn't speak now showing his true colors? Texas, the school A'Shawn consistently said he was 100% committed to "at this time," ruined his "moment"?

As nice as it would have been to have someone with his skillset in the fold, kind of makes me wonder if the 'Horns dodged a bullet with this kid.

Texas has been the best fit for A'Shawn for months now, and then suddenly its not? A'Shawn sounds bad, blaming Texas coaches for "ruining the moment" for him.

Please, dude, get over yourself.

The switch to Bama seems to smell like payola. Believe UT should follow the money in this recruitment. I understand kids "playing the recruitment game" with schools, but this one doesnt seem to fit that catagory with me. Could be right, no proof, but doesnt feel right.

Screw the hat game. I don't like it anymore than anyone else. What makes me more angry is this is becoming more and more like the later years of Fred Akers, when kids simply realized UT wasn't for them.

What we're seeing is the re-enactment of 1985-1994. Doesn't set well

Robinson chose to play college football for the best coach in college football, who is signing the best class in college fotball, and is in the middle of arguably the greatest run in college football history.

How can you argue with his choice? Alabama is the program. We can't beat TCU or West Virgina at home. Our defensive stats lately are so bad its funny. This kid just took his chances of playing for a national championship and being drafted in the first round to the next level.

He will play NT for Bama's 3-4 system and then will get to do the same in the NFL for one of the many 3-4 teams. Bama, Saban, Smart and then the "system" pitch is too much for us to overcome; particularly given the mental midget we have coaching our Defense and the total incompetence at the HC spot.
