AOC wants 70% tax on wealthy

18 staffers per congress person? Well there's a place to start a cut back. Good grief, just do a quick $52k times 18 times congress members, woa Nellie!

18 staffers is the cap. They aren't entitled to hire that many, and most don't. Link. Looks like they have about $950K per year to pay their staff.

Thanks for link, looked to me like they were all ‘entitled’ to 18, but maybe I missed something. Poor Senate only gets $3.3 mil for their expenses and can hire whatever they deem necessary.
I still contend is a tax payer rip off ‘perk’.

They're entitled to 18 if they choose to go that high, but they have to keep it within their budget.

What will be interesting is to see how long her senior staff will be happy to take 40 or 50k less. They are the ones sacrificing not AOC who so far has not said xhe will use any of HER money to pay staff .

She may simply choose not to hire as many staff, which would still let her pay the top staff a pretty high wage. Here's another thing to keep in mind. Interns and volunteers are abundant in DC, and AOC has become very high profile. It wouldn't surprise me if she has a lot of people in the area offering to do some work for free. They can't do high-level stuff, but they can do ton of the grunt work.

She is still paying the top people less than the going rate .
If the median is 157k for a chief of staff and she pays 80k how long will anyone accept that?

At that pay, she won't attract the top people. Honestly, I don't think she thinks she needs it. Like most people her age, she probably thinks she knows everything and can manage everything.

OMG is AOC can't hire the top staffers that would mean she will be uninformed on the issues. Can you imagine?

Well, what it tells me is that she has no expectation or ambition to actually do anything. She's there to grandstand and promote herself by creating sound bites, not to pass legislation. Just look at the Green New Deal, which is indicative of both her substance (or lack thereof) and her style. It's just a bunch of leftist talking points. It's not a real piece of legislation, and she'd probably fall asleep in boredom and confusion if anyone discussed the issue beyond the most superficial level.

Well, if you aren't there to actually pass legislation, you don't need people with policy expertise on your staff.

That's a good thing - it would be a total disaster if she actually managed to get some of her idiotic ideas enacted into law.

That's the upside to most of the Congressional Black Caucus as well. They say idiotic and often offensive things, but most of them are unproductive hacks. Though there are exceptions, most do very little in terms of actual lawmaking.

I think you're overestimating her understanding of legislation. She may well believe that what she put out there is exactly what legislation requires. It's kind of like when Kramer started working for that company in Seinfeld because he was bored or something, and he handed in a report that made no sense at all and was completely worthless. "It's almost like you've had no training whatsoever!"

I would assume that Edward Markey who cosponsored the GND in the Senate made that clear to her but perhaps not.

Winner for best reference. “Jerry, you know this is my busy season!”

Who knows, maybe she's right and that IS all that's needed for legislation. After all... most of the AHCA was generalities that got punted down to the bureaucrats to flesh out. "As determined by the regulatory body" is a pretty handy tool, I guess.

As I've said before she's not stupid she's after the cash. AOC = Accepting Others Cash (sorry but it's all I could come up with quickly).

Even if she COULD attract "top" candidates, they know it is a one and done and that it may be a stain on the resume to have AOC on the resume...

She has a large pool of unemployed journalists to choose from.

Trust me. AOC isn't that deep. She doesn't know what's needed in legislation, but Markey is a 40 year veteran of Capitol Hill. He does know. If they are going to rely on a vast delegations of authority to the administrative state, they may be in for a rude awakening. The Supreme Court is likely moving in the opposite direction.

Am I the only one who sees AOC as anti-Democrat talking point of racism and sexism in this country? She is of Puerto Rican descent, female, dumb as a brick yet managed to get elected to Congress.

God Bless America.
