And now we wait. The program on a knife edge.

Get UM and first thing you’ll realize is we do NOT have the depth of talent many believe. Yeah we have a few talented players but overall we are very overrated on player talent. Just my opinion watching so much other football this year (and last).

Sorry Nash, but others on this board have deemed your statement bs. We have top 10 if not top 5 talent, even though no recruiting service thinks so. (Remember if we sign them and they never play/can't stay on the field/get suspended/arrested/etc, that player, though a 4 or 5 star, cannot contribute to the team).

P.S.-I agree with you. Our 2018 class is dominating our two-deep. They're just juniors though. Need them to come back next year and maybe we start filling in holes.

The point to the record against the other teams is to show how bad Herman has done against not just the main rival, but the top three teams in the conference.

Lots of coaches have had one team they just couldn't beat reliably. It's a knock on their record, but sometime they can get around it. Phil Fulmer almost never beat Florida, but one year his team did, and they won a NC that year. Harbourgh at Michigan, Bobby Bowden for a long time at FSU, etc.

Herman isn't even in that category, the can't get over Ohio State/OU/Miami/Florida but wins elsewhere. He is 25% against the only 3 consistently good teams in the conference, to go along with 1-4 against OU, with the only win being negated by the B12 loss. He's been here 4 years, and after each season, OU has had the better of Texas.

And here we are now, with the biggest game of Herman's Texas tenure coming up - a must win game against, uhh Baylor? This more than anything shows you the current state of the program.

The results of the next 7 weeks will determine the future of the Texas program for years to come.
Good write up...but I disagree with this.

I am convinced that Herman is a dead man walking. You can’t throw Longhorn Nation and the BMDs under the bus and survive. It’s just when, not if.

Not to :herring: but this hits at at the heart of why I grew to hate Mack Brown by the end of his tenure. Once I realized we had fallen behind the Baylor and TCU's of the world and Mack wasn't going to bring us back to the halcyon days we had enjoyed, an awful reality set in. The only way the needed coaching change was going to happen was for us to start losing enough games that the admin would have to pull the plug. My fear was we'd enjoy the worst kind of success going 10-3, 9-4 every year but never take the next step. Mark Richt at Georgia, in short. I believe that's what would have happened if we had kept Mack.

So my apathy grew as well as my indifference to the losses and I found myself doing something I never thought possible, when we were in a game that could go either way I started to want our team to lose so Mack would be that much closer to being fired. This carried over to the Charlie Strong years where I was flat out rooting for Kansas to pull out the upset ; surely, surely, that should be enough to get Charlie Strong out the door. I feel the same way about this team now. I don't care if we win another game this year if that's what it will take for change. It's sad.
There you go, Sap...beating the dead Salmon again.

No problem suck, I accept my role among the posters here as an intermediate to low level cleverness but I still have my opinions - as do we all - and I stand by my assessment. If our talent was as superior as some say we would not lose to the inferior (other opinions) that we do. Talent wins. Mediocre coaching aside If the talent is superior they will win. These boys may not like the eyes but they don’t like to be seen as losers I assure you. Well unless they’re helping to get rid of Herman. Which I do not believe.

Is our lock on Urban as strong as our lock on Saban was?

I have never said or thought Meyer is a "lock", but this time we don't have a liar in the president's office, who will renig on the deal when the "boss" is sitting at the table 72 hours before announcement.

6 games remain, with only perhaps the KU game being considered easy.

Circle this date, November 21, at Kansas. That game could be Tom Herman's death knell like it was for Charlie.

Tom's record over the four years here shows a shaky start 6-6 but he won the bowl game, then 9-4 also won the bowl game, then fell to 7-5 but won a bowl game. Now he's 2-2 this year; however, the level and quality of play has been mediocre at best. Add to that the horns have played two games that went to OT with 1 win and 1 loss. Tech is horrible and it took overtime to win. OU is playing subpar football and beat us in 4 OTs. This year is the worst level of play I've seen since John Mackovic's last season here, although CS three years were pretty awful. The falloff so far this year and last year's season coupled with TH's scolding of the fans, it's time to send this bozo packing.

Hopefully, we can get UM as his replacement and let him build the program back to prominence.

Nash, I have to strongly disagree. Great coaching can do wonders with good — but not great —talent. Herman can’t do squat with what is likely the best talent in the conference. And if it’s not the best, it’s certInly not inferior talent, again when compared to the rest of the conference.

Herman just can’t coach them, and very likely, they see through his phony methodologies and mind games.

He lost the team in the summer, and he lost the best player on the team at the end of the OU game.

Don’t have a problem with disagreement, just not superior in my opinion. Too many other teams out there making outstanding plays in all positions for us to be so ‘superior.

Since Ehlinger is the only real Longhorn on this "team", and he can't win a game by himself, I am stuck hoping these malcontents lose.
Why are these people that "will not watch a game this season, I'm done with the Horns" still here?
This is Horn "FANS".
Reminds me of people that move away from Austin and then post on social media every day about what a horrible city Austin has become.
If you're done with the Horns then GTFO.
Who's the real malcontent here?

Why are these people that "will not watch a game this season, I'm done with the Horns" still here?
Because we choose to be. Although still TBD, not watching football, VB or soccer games and non-support of the turds on theses teams does not equate to lack of concern for the direction in which our alma mater is headed.

Lots of malcontents here, including you. We're not content with the players, coaches, administration and you're not content with us. A perfect circle of discontent.

You must be quoting someone I have on Ignore. He must still be telling people to GTFO? Ha, what a joke. You make a great point about still being concerned but tuning out with this group of malcontents.

As bad as this season's level of play has been, it still doesn't approach the level of undisciplined, uninspired crap we saw for three years of Charlie.

Good point Sangre. The reason I picked Mackovic was due to his winning the last SWC Championship and the First B12 Championship and followed those up with a horrible sub .500 season including the UCLA "Rout 66" losing 66-3 at home. TH isn't there yet, but this season has so far been very lackluster. There are six games left with several games against teams that are doing pretty well and capable of mudholeing our guys. I believe, but not I'm not certain, the Kansas game could be the one that decides whether Tom gets one more year, or is told to leave. I also believe we finish 5-5 at best. I hope I'm wrong.

FWIW,
I think we have the "talent" to win most games. We probably have the talent to win big games against most top ten teams on some occasions.
What we don't have is a team that cannot go a set of downs without committing some unbelievable and unnecessary penalty, fumble the ball, or completely miss a downfield assignment or walk off the field during the game because....
Unfortunately, these issues involve discipline and discipline is COACHING.
Not understanding who paid for your fancy locker room, football field, practice bubble, steak sandwich, engineering building and libraries is just plain immaturity and a lack of awareness.

We shall see, but I have been convinced that TH has lost most of the fans, and that his main sin in doing so was convincing the team that "nothing outside this lockerroom matters". He successfully planted the notion of "us against the world" in the players' heads. Unfortunately, it seems the fans and the University itself are part of the world our players are against. By contrast, Mack always went out of his way to tell the players to thank the fans (and unfailingly did so himself) and etc. While Mack could build an us against the world mentality with his teams too, Mack's version of us against the world was far more nuanced than the current version we are experiencing.

It's at the point where many of the fans are perfectly willing to turn their backs on the program as they feel the program has turned its back on them. If that is actually the case (my speculation could be wrong), then TH has no chance of remaining the coach here, and I doubt the W-L record will factor in to the decision at all.

As much I disliked Strong he never completely lost control of his team. He also didnt have the overall talent that Herman has. He also was not in the same situation Herman is. Strong was also not a immature child that Herman exhibits.

I believe that most of those folks were angry, more at TH for his lack of leadership. nurturing the current political discontent, and not taking a stronger position on the focus of the team which should be education and football, and not the political matters neither they nor the fans can control. Those issues should not be brought out on the playing field. But, Tom sided entirely with them, and from what I've seen sided with their misplaced notions. And he has forgotten his mission...win games and a national championship. HE lumped every single one of us in the category of non-caring bigots, and he further embarked on a misplaced chastising the fans. Our support of the team and contributions to UT football plus to the players in that they have an opportunity to earn an education at one of the top universities in the country have been belittled and discounted by TH. I still watch the games and hope we win each week, but every week's results have indicated, Tom is not the right person for the HC position at Texas. Will UM be better? I cannot give a definite answer that he will have the team playing for a NC in a year or two years, but the level and quality of play along with the attitudes of the players may be much better than what we see and suffer through currently.

I think that's pretty much the crux of it. The fans were blind-sided. He band-wagoned it or maybe he really believes it. Either way, the emotional intensity was well developed before the the paying fan was brought into it. And the cancel culture say's, " Agree now, no dissent or pay the price."

I agree, we lack talent depth, lack discipline, and the skills level overall is not developing. I see the same level of play every week.

What you said was you are done with the Horns.
Not a concerned fan.
I don't agree with or like what I see on the field but I wake up every Saturday ready to watch my team play.
If you are DONE with the Horns then go away.
What are you doing here?

hic
The team was not ready to play and the repeated mistakes made are inexcusable.
Bottom line? they sucked

I speak jive

Interesting that a free loader poster asked YOU a paying sponsor what you are doing here
