Amy Winehouse

I picked up her song "You Know I'm No Good" as a weekly freebie on iTunes sometime in the last year or so. Pretty good song, I liked it. Better than half the garbage they have been putting on iTunes as freebies lately. "Rehab" didn't do much for me though.

At the risk of being overly harsh: I like her music for the most part, but she could stand to back off on the eye shadow and excess makeup some. I agree it makes her look excessively trashy. It wouldn't hurt if she would kick the crack habit, while she's at it. She has a lot of talent, and it would be a terrible shame to lose it all because of her demons.
 
An absolutely great song, I don't care what she looks like or what she has done, Rehab is just a perfect song. As far as trying to copy the Stax sound, no, no, no, it sounds more like 40"s music to me, a bit Billie Holiday-ish. I love Motown, but to me Stax just has more soul, a bit funkier than Motown.
 
On her first album, all but two songs (two covers by the way) were at least co-written by her. She got solo songwriting credit for 6 of the songs on Back to Black (including Rehab). On the other four songs, she is listed as the primary songwriter. I think she deserves some props for that. She has lots of heavyweights who think she is pretty good and want to work with her (Jay Z, Prince, Missy Elliot, etc.).
 
yes, that's her. This was covered on a thread a while back...one of the pics is a mirror image of the original. You can find the exact pic but in it's original form and you can see the tatoo on the same arm

If you think she looks bad there, did you catch her on TMZ smokin crack? Her hair is like very thin, bleached yellowish color, and looks like it's falling out. So obviously she wears a wig, too. Not that great looking, but damn that woman can sing! LOVE her music!!

far be it for me to point to pretty much every music critic, her contemporaries and those silly people at the grammy's
 
Most music critics, most of her contemporaries, and most of the silly people at the Grammy's suck though.
 
1. Generally heard of her, her problems, etc., but the first I saw her was at the Grammies.
2. She's not hot....come on!
3. She's a good entertainer, I got that from the Grammy show, and I heard her on the radio today and she's a fine recording artist, also, and sorry, but it's obvious.
4. I'd rather have a negative thing to say, but she's pretty good.
 
Damn people, her talent is "undeniable"ly marginal with marginal looks - not hot at all. Her tatoos are disturbing. Move on - nothing to see here.....
 
not impressed with her voice or her live performance. the rehab song sounds like a bad rip off of a motown song. i thought it was a joke.
 
I don't know, all I've heard are a few tracks on the radio, but nothing suggests an "amazing" voice to me. Capable, yes. Stylish, yes. Amazing? Er, that seems to be the kind of label one should reserve for gals like Aretha Franklin.
 
Uh.....Billie Holliday is old school. And very talented. Amy Winehouse is neither. She's an overrated, no-talent disaster of a train wreck.

SUCKS.

She's got a good voice. I bought her second album after hearing Rehab, thought I would like the sound. Even if you really dig her music, you have to admit her sound is pretty unoriginal.

As for her music... she lacks any consistent melody, and her lyrics are on par with something a 3rd grader would write. I read the lyrics to my girlfriend who is a poetry buff just to see if she thought they were as awful as I thought. She laughed they were so stupid.

If she hooks up with a good producer and a decent lyricist... and sticks to the script, she could do well. If she sticks with what's she's doing now, my prediction is she'll be thought of as the Brittany Spears of 2007.
