Aggy

I think for the most part, people on this board love football, even if it is Aggie football. Johnny football won the Heisman and deserved it.

Exactly.

From '12-'16 they were clearly a better team.

Yes they were, making it even funnier that that they backed out right before that time period. Sad to say, we didn't make that achievement be much more than faint praise.

Are you suggesting only billionaires know what they're doing? Why did those 10 billionaires sign off on Charlie Strong?

Millionaires/billionaires are good at making financial business decisions. It's fun to watch them and how they evaluate a potential investment. Some are systems are unorthodox, to be nice about it, others have good systems. The majority have a team of advisors regarding different facets of business.

When it comes to hiring a football coach, generally the big money guys tend to merely look at the name, records, etc. but aren't great at evaluating other facets of making such a hire. Chuck, was not a good hire, many of us questioned it when the deal was made especially in light of the purported Saban interest in coming to Texas which, reportedly, suddenly fell through. The X factor was our AD, Patterson. He charged in like Lee at Gettysburg, and unfortunately for us fans, got his *** handed to him. We all know about the disastrous sets of events that followed. Even Herman was relatively untested when he was hired; however, he appears to have things progressing toward having a solid winning season year in and year out.

The short answer is, the Billionaires involved, didn't do their homework or bought wat the AD was selling about the candidate and like Lee and Charlie, got their asses handed to them on a platter.

Just my take on it.

Oh and yes I had to hear some Aggie delusion this weekend too. :rolleyes1:

They appear glad that RC is the Interim AD. Hope they go 7-6 in 19'. That would make me smile.
Did you mention that RC will be interim HC in a few years?

None of them did; that's all on Billie Powers, who I'm not sure knew how many zeros are in a billion.

The Aggies I know/knew that I would consider billionaires were never very boastful about their wealth, much of which was held in phantom LLCs and trusts. None of them had to use phony accounting to qualify if they wanted to be on some ******** list.

George Mitchell was most certainly qualified if you prepared a CONSOLIDATING financial statement, which was never done.

One of the wealthiest Aggies shuns such notoriety and publicity.

Then again, there are publicity seeking Aggies who would love to be on any such list.

What a big-time burn. So I assumed there might be a few aggie billionaires and was wrong. If I was worth a million even I'd be happy as clam. Are you suggesting only billionaires know what they're doing? Why did those 10 billionaires sign off on Charlie Strong? Why is it I've been here the better part of 18 years and never once been accused of being an aggie before today. Why did I post a couple of hundred photos on the 100 days to first game threads over the years? You want to talk longhorns football history sans internet access tell me when and where and I'll be there and humiliate your ***. We can sell tickets and donate the proceeds to charity.
You would have been so much fun at the tailgate. Shame you couldn't make it.

He owns Sprint Waste, sold Tidal Tank in the 90's, owns a Bank. Yea, he is worth right at $1 Billion. His partner was a Longhorn. Maybe he was the smart one. Clayton Williams is a Billionaire, he is an Aggy. His Family Limited Partnership sold out to Noble Energy for $3.2 Billion in 2017.

Point is my double reverse half back pass I am creating is going to spill some maroon blood somewhere in the business world. I guarantee!!!!

Bank swindler is practically his last name. What else could you expect!

Of course not every uber wealthy alum throws his (or her) weight around in the athletic dept--even those that donate a lot. I would expect the coaches wish that fewer big donors would (throw their weight around that is).

Some personalities like to be the big shot and have everyone kiss their ring. Others really don't.

I agree. Most high wealth individuals don’t want the limelight or flaunt their wealth. They don’t want the notoriety, because folks bother the hell out of the for money. Who needs that constant crap?

Joe Jamail? :D
"Some personalities like to be the big shot and have everyone kiss their ring."

Not saying the shoe (or the ring) fits, but...

I appreciate all he did for UT and the athletic dept. Some were a bit turned off by his comments basically telling the smaller donors to sit down and shut up, guys like him are the bosses of this outfit, etc. Ultimately he's right, guys like him do run the show, but it rubbed a lot of die-hard fans the wrong way and created unnecessary friction in the fan base.

Two aggies I’ve done business with, Don Adam and Cliff Thomas, have assets in the high ranges we are talking about. Cliff is a great guy.

There was a problem with "The Legends", which pissed Don off; thus his "Johnny Tyson Pinnacle" type move. Having been to both, seems Don did not try to buy his favorite church to go with the rest of it. Other than that, lots of similarities between the two real estate developments and golf clubs, and while both are really nice, I think Tyson's is far more exclusive.

Many times if someone crossed him even in a minor way, he struck back with great energy and disproportion.

I had nothing against Bridgewater and company, but I thought it was hilarious how he grabbed about 25% of Sterling before they knew he was about to gain control and move it all to Brazos County.

So I did just try to read up on the golf thing. The A&M Traditions club, which is on the west side of Bryan/College Station, was apparently getting quite a lot of land and money support from the City of Bryan. Adam sued to enjoin the project on the idea that the City was mis-spending the money. The district court held he (actually his real estate company) had no standing, the court of appeals reversed, and they apparently reached a settlement during the application to TSct part.

I am told that both golf courses are very good (the Traditions one is by Jack Nicklaus), but that the Miramont CC clubhouse, on the east side of town, is very grand. As you maybe saw yourself? Their website says you have to be invited by two current members to be considered to be a new member.

So, that part was against the City of Bryan, but I suppose he had underlying opposition to the University, too. In looking it up, there was another article that Mr. Adam was suing two of his former high-level bankers to keep them from competing.

It was always my belief that Traditions was an attempt to get old Ags to retire in Brazos County rather than at Lake Travis or Barton Creek. It failed at that, but you alluded to something I have always believed but never known the particulars of, is a possible feud between the Bryan family and Adams over political control and banking.

Me thinks aggy will lose to at least 5: Clemson, Auburn, Bama, GA & LSU... throw in a game they are supposed to win like Miss Aggie, Ole Miss, SC and it could be 6.

Outside of Clemson the OCC is horrible - Really, Lamar? really?, Texas State? yawn, UTSA might give them a decent game.

What say you?

Is being the king of Bryan a thing?
