ACL 2008: Dust Bowl Part 2

That's cool, so you're a bigger fan of ACL Fest than of Texas football? I guess that's what you're saying?

I'm not assaulting any of you, there's no reason for the childish and over-dramatic responses like telling me to "stop talking" because I'm so myopic.

This argument pops up every year, but never a home game.

I do know lots of people going to both, not a big deal at all.

Designating one as a "super fan" is a nice feeling I guess, but anyway...

ACL is great for the city, one of the top tier festivals.

Lots of $$$ coming into town.

I enjoy, but can only go for part of each day, the days of roughing it out for all 3 days are over.

Crap, I wasn't going for "reasonable."

Please don't tell all of the "stop talking" guys.

I believe the statement that incited such ire was the one where I said, "those people will never be able to convince me they are Longhorn football fans."

Perhaps that was a bit strong. I should not question the fandom of others. What I should have said, and really what I meant, was "I do not understand how a really big Longhorn fan would make that choice."

I realize that ACL Fest is only once a year, although it does run for 3 days. At the same time, home Longhorn football games only happen 6 or 7 days per year. So both are pretty scarce.

I anticipate each and every one of those Longhorn home games, perhaps in the same way that others anticipate ACL Fest.

That's really all I'm saying.

I have a question for you ACL regulars.

I have not been since the first year and I only went on Saturday because I wanted to see the Arc Angels.
I certainly enjoyed it because the crowd was not as big as it is now and it was easy to get around to the various stages and see a lot of bands.

But the photos I have seen since it seems to be ******** and elbows.
Is it hard to get around now ?

If you want to see a major act on a main stage do you have to stake out a spot way early and hold people off ?

Can you hear if you cannot get very close ?

It just looks like a cluster**** to me now.

Of course I am getting older but I attended many large outdoor concerts in the past probably many of them before most of you were born. I love live music but when it becomes a huge hassle I opt out now. Old age sucks.

Manageable during the day, especially Friday. But Friday night and Saturday evening are all-out clusterfuck masses of humanity. You can't step anywhere without stepping on or near a human.

well, just got back about 30 minutes ago. The dust wasn't too bad, and i think I got home in time to see the UT game. And yea, everyones favorite band sucked.

It was already dusty out there. The next two days are going to be terrible.

Saw some great shows though. Manu Chao brings it live. On the next tier, Jenny Lewis and The Swell Season put on great shows.
