ACL 2008: Dust Bowl Part 2

For those of you who were at ACL a couple of years ago you will remember those dark times. When the dust rose about 15 feet into the air and stayed there like the remnant haze of a tear-gassed anarchist's convention.

Well, I drove by the park yesterday and the grass is not green. I spoke with a neighbor who works ACL and he confirmed my suspicion that the turf is not in good shape. He said they've been watering it for the last few days, but it should have been for the last few weeks, at least.

Unless you want to bake up a dozen fresh lung cookies, take your scarves & gas masks. It's going to be a dusty, choke-filled three days.

Overcrowded, dusty, hot-assed outdoor concert with some good bands and a lot of crappy ones on a weekend during college and pro football season.

No thanks.

Had a lot of fun last year, and have been the majority of years.

I missed the dust bowl year though.

BUT, I'm broke, and going to Arkie and ACL might affect my TX/OU streak, and that will not happen.

This will not be like 2005. That was primarily because we were on the high pressure side of Rita. The main problem that year was the high temps and the forecast for this weekend looks nice.

Haven't they already announced that they're looking at October for next year? Plus, they'll have the new turf and irrigation system.

Doesn't help this year, but still....

and yeah, forgot to add, the above post is correct.

I never waited more than 3-4 minutes for a beer. Food lines still a bit long at times, never waited more than a couple minutes for bathroom. The weather was fine.

It's amazing what people will ***** about.

I agree that last year ACL did a good job of prepping the venue, but they had help from Mother Nature. This year, obviously, its been very hot & dry.

My friend who confirmed my suspicions has worked every ACL and we spoke a lot about the 2005 conditions when they happened. He's pretty sure this year might be like that one unless the wind conditions are better.

I made this post primarily to give people a heads up if you want to bring a bandana or mask. I hope I'm wrong because I'm there all 3 days, but we shall see.

Seems like two types of people in this world - those who go to ACL Fest and have a great time and those who don't go and give a dozen reasons why it sucks.

I'm going, and can't wait. Have missed only two since it started - the inaugural and the dust bowl.

Saturday is sold out with Friday and Sunday not far behind.

Seems like ticket sales will not be affected.

selling my passes on ebay.

I've changed my mind. I'm back in.

Looking for cheap tickets.

Right now the price in Dallas is $125, probably lower in Austin. Looking for it to drop a little closer to $100.

I have a friend who went to the very first ACL. He was standing there waiting for a porta potty at the very same time that a big truck was draining the porta potty next to him. For whatever reason, the big hose that connects to the port a potty slipped off, showering my friend with human waste. Lordy was he ever pissed off.

Anyway, they took him back of the VIP tent and hosed him down. The ACL folks were so apologetic that they promised him two free VIP passes every single year. And that's what they've done. So he's gone to I don't know how many ACL fests in a row, free of charge. All he did was be in the wrong place at the wrong time. As time passes, he's beginning to think that it was worth it.

There is also the kind of people that think college and pro football are more important than a large, crowded, no parking, hard to get to concert.

I prefer Texas/Arkansas, TCU/OU, Alabama/Georgia, CU/FSU, Tennessee/Auburn and Virginia Tech/Nebraska to anyone playing there on Saturday and Washington/Dallas to anything being offered on Sunday.

Seems my priorities are in perfect order to me anyway.

i've never gone, i love live music and i like a lot of the bands that will be here this year (and in years past). i have people staying at my house that will be going to every show they possibly can. it's just not for me. i drop them off and pick them up. i don't understand the people that talk about it sucking and whatnot as the reason they don't go. "if you can't say something nice, keep your trap shut". all those going, have fun.
