We’re taking on aTm—Corpus on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The TexasSports.com preview shows our projected starters for these mid-week games as:

drumroll.
:drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana:

Game 1: DuPlantier

Game 2: Gordon

I like it. DuPlantier is back, and with some big-time seriously nasty MoJo on his breaking stuff. Gordon was an emerging star in the pen late last year, and would start weekend games for most programs. Heck, he’d be the staff ace for quite a few.

Here is that aforementioned Texassports preview along with the game notes:

2022 2 22 AMCC (PDF) - University of Texas Athletics

The Wednesday game is an early first pitch at 4:05 p.m. while Tuesday is the more traditional 6:35 p.m. start. I dont see where ESPN+ is carrying the games so those of you in Austin may have to give the rest of us radio provided updates. This will be a good chance to see who will slot in as the regular fourth starter and of course who can be available in a regional for a spot fifth starter.

DuPlantier looked exceptional in relief against Rice. Gordon has been reliable last year and showed well against Rice. We’ll see how those two do when they go 5-6 innings. I bet they do just fine.

They are playing these games at Whataburger Field, but the Islanders do have their own field on campus. It's a nice enough field but doesn't have much seating.

I just tuned in. How was DuPlantier?

Couldn't have been too bad -- no runs after 4 innings...

Skye Messinger!!!!!!!!

2 run triple!!!!!!!!!
(I thought that one might carry out of there. It bounced off the wall)

This guy was all Big 12 at KU last year. Very good batting average, on base %, and RBI man. Clutch hitter.

UT -- 7
A&M of Corpus -- 0

What a nice looking stadium.

Looks even nicer with all that Burnt Orange in attendance!

So I guess Stehle is our first go-to workhorse for middle relief this year...?

Stehle was also the first reliever Coach went to in the first game vs. Rice. He's working well tonight in middle relief.

I bet he is rightfully proud of his family heritage, although it might have made things a bit easier if the immigration official at Galveston or Ellis Island had changed the spelling of their name to "Staley" on the paperwork.

Infield hit drives in a run.

8-0 Horns.

Now some clutch hitting by Ardoin!!! 2 run double

10-0 Horns.

LeBarron Johnson pitched a good inning in relief after Stehle was done. Now Zane Morehouse takes over. He's got a bit of movement on that fastball. Doing good so far. Morehouse can really paint those corners with precise control (more of a Van Dyke than a Picasso--you see, that art history class has some application in the real world...). And right after I type that he goes and walks a batter... Struck out the final batter, still a shutout, nice work.

We've had some great, great pitchers over the years, but I don't remember this much quality depth in the pen.

Marcus Olivarez RHP Sr. from Columbus, TX (transfer from Lamar U.) will close us out.

Questions":

1) Who plays at that stadium over by Five Points/Robstown?

2) When they build the new super port, will the park they played in tonite be torn down?

Props to the left side of the Islander's infield. They made several difficult plays that kept the game from becoming a blowout much sooner.
