Do we just swing at too many crappy pitches because the umps are too generous with the strike zone? Some of the pitches on the video look like they're a foot off the plate, especially the right side of the plate for a lefty pitcher.
Silly comment Dano. Meaningless game for UT, everything riding on it for Missouri. Regionals matter, conference tournaments don't, unless you have to win to attain a regional berth.
We did everything we needed to do in OKC, win a couple of games and secure the national seeding.
Not sure which comment you are referring to so I'll address them both.
I don't think they are silly comments at all. Aggy gets to play the 8th seed, a team with a losing record, for the tournament championship. To me, that's a gift.
I don't think anyone will disagree that the 'Horns offense this year has been extremely average to, at times, below average. It has stellar pitching. Still, it dropped 2 out of 3 to a Mizzou team whose starting pitchers in the two losses had ERAs around 5. I don't care whether the tournament was meaningful or not, the 'Horns still should've been able to hit these guys better than they did. Hence the comment that if the offense doesn't produce better than it has been, it will be a brief trip through the big tourney.
The Horns have the best pitcher in the country in Jungmann and one of the best if not the best staffs overall. they should be an overwhelming favorite to get to Omaha and a top 1 or 2 overall national seed but the offense has been a season long issue and it still is pending as the regionals come down next week. Today was meaningless overall but part of an overall disturbing season long trend.
I am hopeful about the regionals but very wary of them and the super given the offensive output this team seems capable of. Texas can beat any team out there but with this offense is just as likely to lose a 1-0 or 2-1 type game they should have blown the other team out in.
Can't argue with a man's reasoning who has won a D-1 baseball title for the last 3 decades---if he says we dont need to win conference tourney, I believe him...
I believe our offense did show up. We probably averaged more hits per game (around 10) than we did in conference play. Our offense played pretty well. It is not an offense we expect to put up 7 every game. I'll take 10 hits each game in the regional. Had we started with Jungman it's likely we're playing tomorrow, but it is what it is. I do not expect our regional to be any stronger competition than our bracket here. The 2-3 should compare well with OkSt-Bay but the #4 (bottom 8 auto qualifier) will probably not be as talented as a hot Mizzu. I'd like our chances but only because of our seeding. If we're lucky enough to get to the supers, well it's been a good season already....
I think Augie's reasoning was as long as Texas is a top 8 seed...didn't have high expectations this year for the Horns, although every year we are Omaha or bust (ever since I was in school in the 80's)--not trying to lower our standards, but all you can ask for is a shot--never know what will happen in Omaha, and as long as the Horns can get there, so be it--6 Dogpiles and counting...Hell, Hook 'em, all you doubters and haters...
As "meaningless" as this tournament was to us (and I don't believe that), you still have to wonder how we could lose two games to this Missouri team. If we couldn't score runs against their average pitching staff, what are our real chances against better teams? With this effort in the Big-12 tournament, this is more evidence why we won't get anywhere near Omaha this year.
