'23 - '24 Season

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
Our team followed up its big victory over #1 Ohio State, and gutted out a road win over Georgia in Athens on Thursday night to take our record for the season to 11-3. The match was clinched at 4-1, but the final score was 4-3, and it took everything we had to hold on. For the full story, including all the scores, please click on this press release. Yesterday we made the long trip from Athens to L.A., and are now preparing for tomorrow's (Sunday's) 1 pm match with another "blue blood" program, USC. For a full preview of our upcoming contest with the Trojans, including links to live scoring and video, please click here.

Looking ahead, next week will be another big one for us, as it will be the start of our last year in the Big 12. We will play UCF on Friday at 7 pm. Our women's team will be playing #1 Oklahoma State at 3:30 before that. And in between those matches the Budweiser Clydesdales will pass by the tennis center on their parade route. They will be available for photos between 5:30 and 7 pm in front of the East Campus Garage (by the baseball stadium). Then on Sunday, March 24 it will be yet another huge match for us, as we will take on #2 ranked TCU in our conference match. You may recall that we came up just short in the non-conference match a few weeks ago in Ft. Worth, and our guys are now itching for another chance! Last year in this match, we set the TTC attendance record of over 1,300 fans, and it gave our team a massive boost in route to our Big 12 Conference title. We expect an even bigger turnout this year, so I encourage you to come early in order to get a good seat. Our operations and facilities teams are doing everything they can to boost our seating capacity for this match with some temporary seating. I'll keep you posted on those efforts as we get closer to match day, but for now the best I can tell you is to plan on being there early! If you can't make it there in person, your only opportunity to watch will be on the Longhorn Network, so if you don't have it, I'd encourage you to try to get it! There will also be lots of promotional activities that day in conjunction with the match. There will be a UT Athletics Block Party all day, and it will be set up right in front of the tennis center. There will be food trucks, draft beer, a donor appreciation tent, a UT Tennis Alumni tent, and putt-putt golf and inflatables for kids (bounce house, etc.). I especially encourage all of our tennis alumni to come out to this match, as we will be paying special tribute to Coach Dave Snyder, and the remarkable impact that he had on the UT Men's Tennis program, and the many athletes who were fortunate enough to have him in their lives.

Thanks for your continued support of Texas Men's Tennis. Have a great weekend, and Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
We closed out our coast to coast road trip yesterday with a 6-0 win over USC in Los Angeles. Here is the match recap. That completed a busy, and successful 8 day stretch, in which we picked up wins over Ohio State, Georgia, and USC. We will now focus our attention on Big 12 Conference play, which begins this Friday evening at 7 pm vs UCF at the Texas Tennis Center. UCF is off to a great start this season. They sit just outside the top 25 in the rankings, and have a record of 14-1. We had a close 4-3 win over them last season, and absolutely expect to be tested. I hope you will plan on supporting the team again if you are in town. Prior to our match on Friday, our women's team will be playing #1 Oklahoma State at 3:30 pm. And in between the matches the Budweiser Clydesdales will pass by the tennis center on their parade route. They will be available for photos between 5:30 and 7 pm in front of the East Campus Garage (by the baseball stadium). On Sunday, we have an absolutely massive match vs #2 ranked TCU (4 pm at the TTC). The match will be broadcast on LHN, so the only way to watch if you don't have LHN will be in person. We are expecting a record breaking crowd, so if you plan to join us I suggest you come early to secure your seat!

We will be providing lots of promotional activities in conjunction with the TCU match. There will be a UT Athletics Block Party all day, and it will be set up right in front of the tennis center. There will be a jumbo TV set up outside the tennis center, showing LHN's broadcast of the tennis match. Inside the tennis center, we will also have several large TV's set up upstairs, providing viewing for all courts if your view happens to be obstructed. We look forward to another great weekend! Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
Our team had a very strong showing last night, and came away with a 4-0 win over Central Florida (match recap). We now have our sights set on tomorrow's 4 pm showdown with #2 ranked TCU. We are expecting a record breaking crowd, so if you are planning to come out I suggest you get there early. Should be a great atmosphere! Here is the full preview. Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

This is amazing. Watching world class tennis with UT dominating
and of course switching back and forth with Women's game.
LOVE this:mj:

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
We had a great win over TCU on Sunday, in front of a crowd of close to 800 people. We came through with a decisive win in doubles, and then took 3 singles matches in straight sets (Micah Braswell, Gilles-Arnaud Bailly, and Pierre-Yves Bailly). With individual ranking implications on the line, the #1 singles match between Eliot Spizzirri and TCU's Jack Pinnington was played to completion, and Eliot came through with the win. Thanks to all of your who showed up to support! Here is the match recap, and also LHN's video highlights.

We will be on the road for the next two weekends (at BYU and Texas Tech this week, and at Oklahoma State and Oklahoma next week). Our last home match of the regular season will be vs. Baylor on April 13, and we have some special things planned for senior day. I'll be back in touch after the weekend. Have a great week, and Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
I hope you had a great week! We returned from last weekend's road trip to Provo and Lubbock with two more wins (4-0 over BYU, and 4-1 over Texas Tech). After one day off, and two days of practice, we were on the road again this morning, this time to Stillwater, OK, where we will play Oklahoma Sate tomorrow (Friday) at 5 pm (preview). After tomorrow's match we will head down the road to Norman to play Oklahoma on Sunday at 1 pm. Next weekend we will play our last match of the regular season against Baylor at 4 pm. That will be Senior Day for Micah Braswell, Cleeve Harper, Evin McDonald, Eliot Spizzirri, Eshan Talluri, and Siem Woldeab. I think you will agree that this group has put their stamp on our program in a very meaningful way, and I hope you will make every effort to be there to honor them if at all possible. Those who cannot make it to the match next Sunday (4 pm central) will be able to watch live on the Longhorn Network.

Thanks for your support, and Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
Our team returned to Austin last night after another successful road trip, picking up a 6-1 win over Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Friday (recap), and a Big 12 Regular Season Championship clinching 4-1 win over Oklahoma on Sunday (recap). Our current senior class has now won a Big 12 Championship in 3 of their four seasons together.

Speaking of our 6 tremendous seniors {Micah Braswell, Cleeve Harper, Evin McDonald, Eliot Spizzirri, Eshan Talluri, and Siem Woldeab), they will play their last regular season home match this coming Saturday at 4 pm vs Baylor. Although we clinched a share of the Big 12 Regular Season title yesterday, they would like nothing more than to clinch the outright championship at home in front of another record setting crowd. Immediately following the match we will honor the seniors and present them with a special gift. This senior class has made a tremendous impact on the UT Men's Tennis program, and has represented us all with class and Texas Fight every step of the way! So I am asking one more time (until NCAA's of course) for you to come out early, make a difference, and stay until the match clinch to honor Micah, Cleeve, Evin, Eliot, Eshan, and Siem. You can count on me to be in touch with a reminder towards the end of the week. If you will be in Austin, please put 4 pm Saturday at the TTC in your calendar now. If you cannot make it, your only opportunity to watch will be on The Longhorn Network. Have a great week, and Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

Thank you for the updates Bruce. Wow what a terrific season so far for the team!!!

Hope the Horns crush Bailor on Saturday and clinch the conference title!! :headbang:

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
I am writing with one more reminder about our final home match of the regular season tomorrow (Saturday) at 4 PM vs Baylor (match preview). We will have our senior day presentation immediately after the match (not before the match as we were previously planning). This senior class has been truly special and impactful. We would sure appreciate you coming out to support them if you are in town! Out of towners will be able to watch the match on The Longhorn Network. Sole possession of the BIG 12 regular season championship is on the line! Let's do this! Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
Our team finished the regular season by shutting out Baylor 7-0 in front of a great crowd of 800 fans. Our seniors took full advantage of their opportunity to showcase their skills, and their passion for representing Texas. We started the match with an all senior lineup in doubles, and finished the day by paying tribute to Eshan, Evin, Siem, Cleeve, Micah, and Eliot for their amazing accomplishments, and for the way they have represented Texas Men's Tennis over the last five years. For the full story, please click on this press release. The win over Baylor gave us sole ownership of the Big 12 Regular Season Championship. For the 2nd year in a row, we finished the year undefeated in conference play. We now turn our attention to the Big 12 tournament in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where we will play BYU in the quarterfinals at 3 pm on Friday. Thank you very much for your continued support of Texas Men's Tennis! Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
Our team put in another great performance on Sunday, shutting out then #3 ranked TCU by the score of 4-0 in the final of the Big 12 Championship. For his efforts in going undefeated at #4 singles and #2 doubles, Pierre-Yves Bailly was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Our tournament victory completed our first sweep of both the Big 12 Regular Season and Tournament Championships since 2010. Our record for the year now stands at 22-3, and this week we have climbed to the #2 ranking in the country. For a full recap of our championship win over TCU please click on this press release.

The NCAA draw will be released next week. We will definitely host the first round (May 3), and should we advance we will host the second round (May 4). If we manage to get through the first two rounds, our round of 16 match would also be at home (May 10). You can count on me being back in touch once the draw is released early next week. Until then, Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
Just a quick note to let you know that the NCAA Tournament Draw was released last night, and we are happy to confirm that we will be playing at home again this coming weekend. We are the #2 overall seed in the tournament and will take on Sacramento State at 1 pm on Friday. Should we advance past Sacramento State we would take on the winner of LSU and UCLA on Saturday at 4 pm. Please click on this press release for more details. I will be in touch again in a few days with a reminder and a final request for your help in providing our guys with another big crowd as they get started with NCAA tournament play. Have a great week, and Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

I thought you meant Chavatipon was ineligible and I was so confused!!! That makes sense. I hope she sticks around!!!

Hi UT Tennis Fan,
I am writing to remind you that the NCAA Championships begin today! We will play Sacramento State at 1 pm at the Texas Tennis Center. For a full preview, please click on this press release. And for more information about the NCAA Regionals please click on the tournament homepage. Should we advance today, we would play the winner of LSU and UCLA tomorrow (Saturday) at 4 pm. In order to get through this weekend's regional, we are going to have to keep our standard high, and we could sure use a few more great home crowds. Our special group of seniors has, at most, 3 matches left at the TTC. If you are in town, I encourage you to come out and support them and the whole squad, as we try to get off to a good start at NCAA's.

Eliot Spizzirri and I had the chance to speak with a few members of the local media a few days ago, and if you are interested in watching the interviews, please click here. Yesterday, the Big 12 announced several awards, and it was a clean sweep for the Longhorns, including Eliot Spizzirri being named Player of the Year for the 2nd time in a row! Please click here for the Big 12 Conference Awards Announcement.

Thank you so much for all your support this year! Let's keep it going down the final stretch! Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

Thanks for update. Should be perfect weather. Hope you get good supportive crowd.

I need to check LHN and hope it is on.

Hi,
Just a message to make the audience aware that I'm just a messenger when sharing Bruce's emails. I'm not sure how I got on his distribution list. Maybe it was due to me taking part of their Adult Tennis Camps they had years ago. At any rate, I'm happy to continue to share Bruce's emails.

Thanks!

Hi again UT Tennis Fan,
Rain forced us inside today at the Weller Tennis Center, but we played a good match and beat Sacramento State 4-0 in the NCAA Championships 1st round. For all the details, please click on this recap. Tomorrow (Sunday) we will take on UCLA at 4 pm in the 2nd round, and expect a great match! Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will play at the Texas Tennis Center. If you are in town, please plan on joining us, and helping this team fight for a spot in the Sweet 16. Hook'em!

Sincerely,
Bruce Berque

Correction: Tomorrow's Match vs UCLA is on Saturday at 4 pm (not Sunday)
