2025 Updates, Transfers & Recruits

So how many transfers do we bring in from aTm in the portal? 2 position players and 2-3 pitchers?

We are paying Texas Agriculture & Mechanical College $2.7 million buyout, and our new coach $3 million. I trust the coaches to grab who they want and don't want; more importantly who they can develop since that seems to be a lost art at Disch-Falk.

Waiting to see if we flip (or want to) our former player's son, who committed to aTm as a freshman in HS.

Wait, what's going on with Porchas?

He looked very promising as a high school recruit. For some reason, Coach let him go before the season...? His pitching looked good.
Porchas made what some took as a snarky online remark after Pierce George transferred after failing to perform here.

Porchas could be similar to that really big heavyweight pitcher from Oak Ridge that the scouts were drooling over, but he got cut from the team before the start of last year.

We may have cut some of the wrong guys.

Woah!

Porchas re-posted Max Weiner on his X/Twitter space, saying what he did at aTm was incredible.

I hope the Porchas bridge back to Austin hasn't been dynamited and burned. He was one of the Top 5 arms in California his Senior Year. Some had him as #1. If I remember correctly, the "rub" on Porchas was that he may have peaked too soon. As a Sophomore, the scouts and bloggers were saying future 1st rounder out of high school. Less fanfare as a Junior, and even less fanfare as a Senior, but he was still good enough to make Top 5 pitchers in California among blogger/sites who do such rankings.

His release, pitching mechanics, movement of the ball, etc. look really, really good. The new regime should give him a look. Whether he has some sort of personality/ego/club-house/dugout issues, I don't know...

Aaaahhhhhh, now he shows back up……

Looks like he got a haircut. I remember seeing one interview online that he or a friend must have taped with a cell phone cam. Let's just say he came across as a guy with a very heavy OC vibe.

Spin rates, good, but nothing exceptional. Shows really good command of 3-4 different pitches. Don't like that his fastball looks like it's just coming straight in without moving much. Maybe he'll throw a lot of that cutter/2 seamers to get some movement on a fastball, and save the true 4 seam heater for special occasions? We now have a pitching coach on staff who can figure out stuff like this.

Longhorn recruits/players likely to go in the draft (with current draft ranking*):

1. Bryce Ranier - 10th pick
2. Theo Gillen - 28th
3. Levi Sterling - 58
4. Jared Thomas - 60th
5. Jalin Flores - 116
6. Jason Flores - 190
7. Kyle Degroat - 239

Of course there could be a couple of surprises in our favor if any decide to come to campus like DeGroat. Thomas loves Texas although i think its slim, he could decide to return. Flores could return to work on his defense and improve his draft status for next year, a few variables for these kids to think about but just like last year, for now, I"m going to look at it as if they are all gone until i hear otherwise.

Good news, Belyeu isn't in the discussion, not sure how cause he has a major league arm/glove, everybody's offense has to adjust to the mlb level and his will be no different. Schuessler also, not seeing his name or Gage Boehm.

So for returning production right now, I have:

Outfield/Infield
Will Gasparino
Kimble Schuessler - DH
Max Belyeu
Casey Borba
Rylan Galvan

Pitchers
Ace Whitehead
Gage Boehm
Easton Tumis
Max Grubbs
Hudson Hamilton
Andre Duplantier

:yikes: :point-up: this sucks, but we sucked, so maybe it's for the best. :idk:

With this coaching staff, I would expect that Belyeu moves to CF, where he belongs. I may be wrong but he is about as solid a CF as we've had since Drew Stubbs but with a better bat and an even stronger arm, if you can believe that. LOVE watching this kid play defense.

The middle of the field other than Belyeu at CF needs to be replaced or improved, including catcher. Galvan and Schuessler HAVE to improve their defense. Wouldn't surprise me if this staff brings in a catcher to compete or you see a shake up at this position with another name on the team, i.e. Oliver Service or Nik Sanders. Schuessler has value at the DH so he has a spot and Galvan could take another step offensively but our defense has to improve here. No question.

SS and 2nd base. This team performed poorly because of Catcher, pitcher, SS, and 2nd base positions. Poor pitching was obvious. 2nd base is where we are hurting the most outside of pitching, I haven't seen a true 2nd baseman in a few years. O'Dowd*, J. Duplantier and Kennedy# are not the answer unless they improve their ball/glove exchange and it can be done, so we will see. Even Flores was substandard defensively at the SS position.

I'm sure he has a ton of potential, but I'm guessing we can upgrade from a .209 batting average and 96% fielding pretty quickly.

If we want to be competitive, we have to improve 2nd base.

Having said that, I'm just a mere fan discussing my team. I never implied that I wanted him to transfer or that he should, much the same as Daly. Kennedy could have made great strides between this year and next year, many players do. My opinions were just that but I can back up my opinions with statistics, if need be, or with ongoing discussion, I was merely pointing out what I believe are weaknesses.

I wish Mr. Kennedy nothing but the best of luck and all the good fortune he seeks. :hookem:

Heard on a livestream last week the Belyeu is not eligible for this years draft because his birthday is one day after the cutoff date.
