2025 Recruiting - Football

Like every other longhorn fan today I am butt-hurt by the decision. But unlike some of the recruiting experts such as Gerry Hamilton of OTF, I am not convinced that Moore’s decision is 99% solid. It may be on July 5th. It may not be by October.

If what we are hearing is true — that per his mother, this was not a financial decision (which I tend not to believe) and given the overwhelming case for Texas - family, logistics, Arch Manning, brilliant offensive HC, etc. – Moore’s decision would appear to have been emotional. After all, as of a couple weeks ago, he apparently told the Texas staff that he was coming here. Then Oregon swooped in and apparently sold the sizzle. However, the fundamentals remain, and they strongly favor Texas.

What I saw in the (painful to watch) Instagram feed was a typical teenager who certainly enjoys the attention. And don’t forget, he originally committed elsewhere.

For now, Oregon is holding the lead. But consider this; selling the sizzle to facilitate an emotional decision in a teenager maybe tough to sustain over the next five months.

If Texas shows well in Ann Arbor, Dallas, and in October against Georgia, I have little doubt that some second-guessing will enter his head. And I’ll bet that at least one family member will ask, “are you still sure about your decision? Of course, he will initially say “yes.” But will he truly be sure?

Texas is and will continue to be the logical decision for Dakorien and his family. Again, the challenge for Oregon will be to keep selling the sizzle. Not a slam dunk

Remember, no one can sign an LOI until December 4th, and I doubt that Sark is “going quietly into that good night.”

Despite our best efforts, Moore has decided (for the second time) that Texas is not for him. The coaching staff should stop wasting valuable time and resources on this lost cause and focus on those that want to be a Longhorn.

You might be right, but if it was my call, I would stay on him until December 4th.

I still can’t get over the fact that he had 11 family members, including himself and his wheelchair bound grandmother, on the official visit. If that’s not a strong statement of interest, I’m not sure what is. That is, unless he was just appeasing the entire family. To me that would be hard to believe.

In this cycle, it is obvious that Texas is going to be working from behind. (We just lost another DT about an hour ago.) Sark is one heck of a closer. This might be the biggest challenge he has faced while at Texas.

The staff will not give up on this one.

My guess is that even if Moore goes to Oregon, he will portal back in a year or two.

Duke-Sounds like the Moore family had a nice outing on us. Moore seems to have no class. He will fit in better at Oregon and needs to stay

I dont disagree with this but remember these are kids being thrust into the spotlight of cash, cash and more cash. Most of them have never had exposure to such so its a big draw. Would have loved to have him. Proximity should have had more pull but if they gave him enough money he can fly all 11 anywhere and anytime he wants. Nike may even cover the expenses as well. (yes I know thats not legal but who will catch it in todays pay for play world)

Moore had every reason to come to Texas. Perfect situation for him and this offense and it sounds like he was going to be handsomely compensated. At this point he just feels like Oregon is where he'd rather be. As has been noted, between now and November that could change.

So true Legend. In fact, I was pondering what I would (if I were Sark) if DKM wanted to make an OV or UV to (for example) the Georgia game. Or OU. Welcome him with open arms? I suppose. If he wanted to bring the entourage again? Hmmm…

We want the kid, so any opportunity to change his mind would be a good thing. But then again, I would not want to get played. Sark also has to think about the culture, and the perception by other players. The extent to which we go all out – and continue to go all out – for this player can have the effect of sending an undesirable message to other players, both current and future.

If Sark pulls this off it will be the coup of tenure so far at Texas. But that doesn’t guarantee that the kid will be the kind of addition to the team that we are all expecting.

This recruitment does feel different to me than that of the Evans Stewart. I’m convinced that Stewart never really considered Texas. With DKM, I think the kid is highly impressionable, and easily conflicted.

Let me make sure I get this right, when Mack, Charlie and Herman missed out on top recruits the reasons were 1. Getting lazy 2. Pissed off the THS coaches 3. Had no relationships in the market (DFW-Houston) 4. Coach just sux

But when Sark misses out it's only because we got outbid and Sark has a set budget by position. Let's not kid ourselves and think the bidding wasn't going on before NIL. I hope the kool-aid you all are drinking is just as sweet at the bottom of the pitcher as it is now.

The only plus is we aren't losing these guys to Collie.

Based on what I am reading, here’s how I would handicap some of our targets, “as of now:”

Jaime Ffrench, WR - Good shot. Late Aug.

Kaliq Lockett, WE - Reasonable shot

Michael Fasusi , OL - Some confidence

Lamont Rogers, OL - Missou Lean

Madden Faraimo (CA LB) - Seems to be interested.

Kelshaun Johnson, WR - May try to flip from TAM, now that DKM is gone. They like his speed. Declaring Monday?

Kade Phillips, DB - Reasonable confidence.

DJ Sanders, DT - Some confidence. Man do they need him.

Nick Townsend, TE - Growing confidence

There’s also some talk that at least one of the DTs we lost, to FSU, is a reasonable flip candidate.

Featured linebacker? Never heard of a team featuring a linebacker. They move him around?
Some services are saying that he wanted to be the feature linebacker in the class. That was not necessarily going to be the case. So at least a week ago I was hearing that he was a longshot.

For some reason he didn't have a good visit. Apparantly he got his feelings hurt when we brought in Madden Faraimo and treated him so well.
Haven't heard from anyone in the know that he wanted to be a "featured" linebacker.

Agreed, LC. But if there's a reasonable chance for a flip, it's probably worth the effort until you come up with a better solution of a solid commit.
They will keepafter Moore till the end. Not so much on Pettijohn. Don't know of any others that are flip candidates.
