Ok people. Friday night the Astros come to Globe Life for 4 games.

Astros still licking their wounds after starting off 0-4 to the Yanks. Then 2-5 (or whatever).

Rangers need to keep foot on the gas early on. Seattle and Angels are playing well. Astros will settle down and I suspect the team to beat in the West this season.

Big early season four game series with Houston this weekend, it is not beyond realm of possibility that Texas and Houston could end year in a tie again just like last season and the tie-braker is the head to head record so these games and the winner of the silver boot have added importance.

Meanwhile latest Rangers All; Access has dropped with some cool stuff.

This was a huge start to the series with the 'stros!

Bradford may stick around as a starter if he keeps throwing like he has his first two starts. Big win to start the 7 in 10 games matchup with Houston. Lorentzen has one more AAA start before he comes off the 15 day IL and then it may be an interesting call to see who is the fifth starter and who slots in to the long reliever and spot starter role.

You suck tonight astros!!

After the disappointment of the Longhorn baseball team this afternoon, the Rangers show up to make the evening a happy one along with the lady’s softball team getting the huge upset of OU. I’m disturbed that Gray has not gotten out of the fourth inning in either of his starts. Of the five Ranger starters right now he is the one that seems, at least performance wise, to be the one who should be the most likely to be replaced by Lorentzen when he comes up later this week from AAA. I felt like the Rangers needed to at a minimum split with Houston in this early season series and having won the first two it’s time to get greedy and look to take three out of four or even sweep a huge early season series.:texasflag:

Rangers up 2-0 in the 4 game series.

Rangers 6-2
Astros 2-7

Sunday 6:10pm first pitch:

Dunning (1-0)
Blanco (1-0)

Sunday.

No Ranger magic tonight. Dunning pitched pretty well into the 7th and gave up 3 runs. Bats could not get it done tonight. Rangers left a bunch of men on base and got 0 runs.

astros 3
Rangers 0

Dunning actually pitched very well last night with just one mistake to Alvarez who made him pay for it, as Yordan is going to do to a lot of pitchers this year. Rangers can still win series today and even a loss means a split series which is OK. Sborz is headed to the 15-day DL after leaving Saturday in the 8th. Rangers are definitely fighting the injury bug early this season and Houston is a lot better than their record and that will bear out over a long season. Rangers have 4 with the Stros over next week with the last one today at Globe Life and then 3 next weekend down at Minute Maid and they need to win 2 of them to maintain their lead in the silver boot.

If the Astros can figure out how to have Blanco start every game, they'll win the West. If not, then, well, they'll probably lose a lot.

Rangers chose not to pitch Eovaldi on his regular four days rest but to go with Heaney who was next up in the rotation and when Houston had to scratch Valdez it looked like Texas was getting a gimme particularly when they chased the starter in the first and put up a five spot. But Heaney struggled all night and Burke struggled as well both unable to hold a lead and the Ranger bats went silent after the big first inning so the Rangers lost a game that was there for the taking 10-5. A 2-2 split is not a bad thing but this was an opportunity missed. Foscue is now on 15 day IL after feeling pain in his first MLB at bat and Jung was moved to the 60 day IL as the injuries have pile dup early on.

Oakland is now in town for 3 before 3 more down in Houston this week. 6-4 in the first ten is a solid if not spectacular start to the year.:texasflag:

the Rangers lost a game that was there for the taking
That's the key, FWHORN. A 3-1 series win was dangling in front of the Rangers, and they couldn't take it. 2-2 at home against the top team in the Division isn't horrible - but 3-1 would have been much better. And the next series in is Houston - it will be very difficult to repeat the success the Road Rangers had in the playoffs last season.

I like everyone not on the Astros roster thought a 5-0 lead with one out was going to be impossible for the Rangers to lose. Did not foresee Houston scoring 10 unanswered.

LeClerc gets his second loss and first blown save of the year as Rangers' losing streak goes to three games. Rangers are still shaking things out on the bullpen rotation but more and more I see Yates and Robertson as the 8th and 9th inning options with LeClerc moving to less a high leverage 6th and 7th inning option.

I'm thinking that Leclerc has earned a demotion within the bullpen - at least until he can figure out how to pitch again. Let him handle the middle innings until he regains his stuff, control, and confidence. We don't want to see the bullpen match the save record of last season!
