2024 Texas Rangers

What a waste of a superb pitching job last night. When your pitching staff holds the opponent to one run, you should win that game 99.999% of the time. But it's extremely difficult to win when you don't score. Wake up, offense!

Rangers win the rubber match with Washington 6-0 this afternoon. However, Eovaldi left in the sixth with groin pain and we will all be holding our breath to see if that is going to mean a stint on the injury list. With the news that Scherzer had to push back his rehab start, it was already quite likely that Leiter would be coming back up to pitch in the scheduled doubleheader on May 8, this injury to Eovaldi may mean that Leiter is up for more than just a single spot start.

6-0 win today vs. WA while taking the series 2-1, feels good, despite bad news on Eovaldi and Scherzer.

Lorenzen (2-1) on deck to pitch Fri. vs. KC with Brady Singer (2-1).

Eovaldi to IL. Will see how long this lasts but could be late May before he returns and with Bradford’s back still an issue Rangers could be looking at a rotation of Lorentzen, Dunning, Gray, Heaney, and Leiter for at least three cycles. Interestingly it’s Rodriguez who gets call up today to replace Eovaldi and not Leiter but expect roster moves over weekend as Rangers set up the four games in three days in Oakland next Monday through Wednesday.

Ugly loss last night. Bullpen gave up a six-run inning to KC.

Cole Winn after being really good several outings in a row reminded us he is still basically a rookie and last night was one of those learning experiences that later this year and next year hopefully pay dividends.

After sleepwalking through their second game in three days yesterday, the Rangers offense wakes up this evening putting a 15 spot on the Royals. Chance to win a road series tomorrow and get this road trip started right. :texasflag:

Certainly hope that the 15 runs yesterday (without a HR!) is an indication that the offense is finally cranking it up. The pitching has basically done well - better than we could reasonably expect - and it's time for the bats to come alive. The Mariners are a force to be reckoned with, as they have excellent pitching. The Astros are still there, but they have dug a deep hole in the standings, and with their personnel issues, it may not be easy for them to climb out of that hole.

The Rangers get an extra inning win today in Kansas City after tying the game in the top of the ninth and get the road series win. The injury to Langford yesterday that pulled him from the game is worrisome and no information yet today on whether he will be day-to-day or headed to the IL. The Rangers head to Oakland and have four games in three days with two of the games yet to have starting pitchers announced, including the game Tuesday and the second game of the doubleheader Wednesday. Expect Leiter to be called up for one of those starts and perhaps a bullpen game in the other. :texasflag:

ESPN reporting this evening that Langford is out 3-4 weeks and going on IL tomorrow. Meanwhile Eovaldi is headed to New York to see a specialist which is not even a little bit encouraging that he will be back any time soon. And the news on Bradford is that he is still a ways away from being able to throw let alone get back to pitching. Just like last year, the Rangers are going to have to overcome a crap ton of injuries to stay in this thing for a late summer run.

Gotta hope Bochy magic can patch together a pitching strategy to work around these pesky injuries!!

Maybe Scherzer will get back sooner than expected....

Leclerc pitching and gets us out of the 7th still down 2-0.

I sense the Rangers are tired tonight....

Let's hope, with 6 outs left, they get some energy and bat magic to do what they did vs. KC last eve in the 8-9-10th to win!!!

Jankowski single gets us an insurance run!

4-2

Chance for more. Bases juiced for Semein with 1 out....

Nice late-night comeback out in Oakland.:texasflag:

For all the angst of not signing Montgomery, CY's moves to get Lorentzen, Robertson, and Yates for less money than it would have taken to re-sign Jordan combined is paying huge dividends, and 36 games into the season is proving to have been a great move. Having said that, the Rangers are going to be holding this thing together with tape and baling wire for a while until they can get back their five starting pitchers currently on the IL (yep Texas has an entire rotation of starters on the IL yet still is somehow 4 games over .500 over a month into the season).

Just saw that Urena is getting spot start today in place of Eovaldi. He is 0-2 for Texas in 10 appearances with a 4.35 ERA so bats better show up.

Yup. Good Guys jumped on 'em early. They may need all the runs and a few more with Urena pitching and his modest ERA.

Rangers lead 15-2 through 5.

Urena has five full and just one earned run given up. Perfect spot start for him and frankly that is why Texas went and got him. He was a starter in Miami, Colorado, and for the White Sox and slots in as long reliever and spot starter in low leverage times like today for the Rangers with now 25 + innings already for Texas in just the first 37 games. CY really has made the right moves to firm up the staff both starters and bullpen this past off season and the Rangers pitching has been the best part of this team so far.

Give him credit! Urena pitched 5 terrific innings!

15-4 B6th.

Hernandez in relief of Urena comes in and gives up 5 walks and 2 runs. Thankfully he gets the hook and Rodriguez comes in to hopefully to end the inning before any more runs.

Rangers win 15-8 in a game in which only the very bottom of the staff had to be called upon. Leiter got the call up so he will pitch game two tomorrow. Rangers on nice three game win streak they will look to extend tomorrow.

Yes, win today rested majority of the Bullpen. Unfortunately Oakland Bullben mostly got rest too.

Double-header Wed. Rangers need to at least take 1 of 2....

Rangers actually pushed the win streak to four today and this evening Houston lost again to fall 11 games under .500. I still think they will turn it around and come August it will be a three team race with Seattle, Texas, and Houston but man are the Astros digging themselves a hole.

A split tomorrow means a successful trip to Oakland but I am feeling greedy and would love to see Texas get em both a finish a four game sweep. :texasflag:

Well crap, the injury hits just keep on coming.

Rangers' Dane Dunning: Bound for IL with shoulder injury

Dunning's injury worries me as that is long term type shoulder stuff.

Also heard on the Fan in DFW over lunch that Scherzer is shut down with no rehab starts even being contemplated at this point for a while. Looks like Rangers may be on a starting rotation of Gray, Lorenzen, Heaney, Urena and Leiter for a couple of weeks.

The Ranges won't get a lot of shutouts from this group, but they can still win a lot of games if the offense will put up some big numbers.
