2023 Transfer Portal

I know we have bigger goals in mind today but I just wanted to start this thread because Texas will need to go to the portal hard this off-season. First person on my list would be Quincy Olivari from Rice. Great scorer who can score from all three levels especially the 3 point line.

Quincy to Texas could be a real possibility. Based on Twitter he really seems to like the hiring of Rodney Terry. Would be a huge get if Rodney is able to pull him in.

I said this on another thread. We may be very shocked at how much support Rodney will have from the top players and their families. He proved himself and he is very likeable.

Olivari would be our "Rice," as in Sir'Jabari, for 2023-24. A one-year rental to help fill out the roster. I'll still take him, but I'm hoping we can find some portal guys with at least 2 years in the books remaining.

Traore from Auburn is my big get if Disu leaves. We need someone with size and touch.

Jayden Epps from Illinois is interesting. He didn't have the best shooting game against us, but he got to the stripe, which is something we all complained about with the Miami game. His stats are comparable to Hunter, and I think he'd be a decent 4th guard.

Love reminds me of Carr. I'd love for a little bit better shot selection from him, but he'd walk in here and be the PG starter from day one. That might free up Morris to be more of a combo guard.

Ware was used as the first big off the bench at UO. It was a confusing situation all around, much like Will Baker when he was at Texas. They had him jacking up threes and playing away from the ball and basket on both ends. Even with that, he still picked up over 1 bpg. I'd love to have him.

I still think Traore gives us something closer to what Disu did in 2022-23. Hey, why not both of them?

MJ Rice from KU just announced as well. I think he's the kind of guy that would do well with a change of scenery. We could use some midsize guys with Allen leaving.

Caleb Mills from Florida State is in the portal. He started at UH with a ton of promise and then never really turned the corner, but we're in need of guards who can shoot. He started nearly every game for FSU these past 2 seasons. His assists and rebounding have improved each year. He'd be a 1-year rental.

Dickinson would be the most consistent big man we've had since Mihm. And he might even be better than Mihm in a couple of regards (upper body strength and deep shots).

My issue with him is the fact that he's a rental. He doesn't have a Covid year to burn. I'd love him to bridge that gap to 2024 and beyond, but I'd love to have a big man who would stay for more than a season.

If we can't get Dickinson, Wahab from Georgetown announced today as well. Also a 1-year guy and not near as much upside, but far superior to most big men out there.

I watched a couple vids of this guy and he has a seriously soft touch to his shot with great form for someone of his size. Imagine how impactful a guy like this could be with a really good surrounding cast unlike Michigan which is full of blah talent.

7'2".....thats a tall dude. We could use one like him. Michigan website lists him at 7'1"

56% FG
42% 3-pointers
73% FT
19 ppg
9 rpg
2 blocks pg

How many big men shoot 73% from the charity stripe? not many. We need to get this guy.
19 ppg is excellent for a true Center in today's college game. 9 rpg, 2 blocks pg = he controls under the boards. 7 foot + big men alter the offense of the opponents. Hopefully he has some interest in us.

But how well does he shake hands in the hand shake line after the game?

More on Dickinson:

"If Dickinson's career in Ann Arbor is over, he ends with the sixth-most career double-doubles in program history and is the 31st player with more than 1,000 points and 500 rebounds."

Michigan center Dickinson enters transfer portal

The issue here is interest. He's an East Coast guy who played in Michigan. But.........sometimes guys who transfer want to get far, far away. Others want to go back home (U. of Maryland, Georgetown, etc.). I bet we're gauging his interest. He'll make some team happy.

247 says: keep an eye on Kentucky, Georgetown, and Syracuse as some possibilities for the Dickinson transfer.

We can at least make a decent pitch for him.

Interesting choices. Both Georgetown and Syracuse have new coaches and Calipari is stale. The buzz is off. Must be the NIL $$$.

Of course, we have a new coach but the test run went quite well.

Tramon Mark, UH
Not the best shooter but plays above his level with a good supporting cast. Was one of the best FT shooters in the country as a sophomore and then fell to average his junior year. HS ball was in Dickinson. He's another tweener who could help pick up those minutes that Allen is vacating.

Harrison Ingram from Stanford is in the portal he’s one I’ve had my eye on all year good player on bad team or you could say team he ain’t fit. Would love to see him in burnt orange.

Jaden Bradley, Bama

Out of IMG, he was basically a can't-miss 2022 recruit. Crimson Tide sources state he was unhappy with how he was treated when his numbers and minutes slipped down the stretch. He still made the SEC All-Freshmen team.
I'd love to have him as a distributor guard off the bench to help alleviate minutes for Hunter or Morris. He's not the best shooter, but he has an ability to find the open guy. He's one of those Rochester NY guys, so everyone's first guess is that he'll be going north. I'd love for our coaches to take a look at him.

Avery Anderson, OK State

All I really watched from him were his games against us, and he was always kind of a combo role player whenever we played the Pokes. However, he had more consistency and a better overall average (points, boards, assists, steals) against everyone else in the XII. He reminds me of Demarcus Holland... you probably wouldn't rely on him to take the game-winning shot every night, but he could also get 20 points as a "surprise" when other things aren't working. He'd be a 1-year rental.

Will Baker, Nevada

I mean, why not? Shaka is gone. He played really well for Nevada and improved his strength each year. They still used him to support the outside game in addition to his blocks and rebounds. He's probably a top-5 big man in the portal right now. He'd only be a 1-year rental, but I'll take it from a local kid.
