2023 Softball Postseason - LFG!

I almost wonder if we're better off with using all of our pitchers for 1-3 innings match, minimize the "second time seeing the pitcher" and just keep everyone guessing.

On the Tennessee team is junior transfer from Texas Ryleigh White, who is 3-0 and plays very sparingly as Tennessee carries 6 pitchers.

That's actually what I thought opposing teams should do to Texas as our hitting improved sometimes the 3rd time we saw their same pitcher late in the game.

When Simpson took over in the 6th inning against the Aggies, she barely got out of it with runners at 2nd and 3rd. My wife was anguished when Simpson came back out for the 7th and asked why not Czech. I told her that it would take Czech a lot more pitches to figure out the strike zone for the picky ump and by that time she might have walked one or two Aggies.

To be fair, as the season goes on, there is more "tape" on every pitcher and the opponent can film study them more. She's till the ace of the staff, in my humble opinion.

And designating Simpson a closer/saver is the best for her. The pressure of starting off a game was too much for her.
agree that she has been the ace but she has struggled lately going back to the regular season. She did have an excellent game against SH Friday.

the “book” applies to almost every pitcher. We need her to regain her touch.

Mac shut them down for 4 innings! Her ball was starting to elevate. I know she didn't want to come out. She's my warrior! I am ecstatic Sophia has been mowing them down! If our pitching staff performances continues it is going to be fun. Remember the 13!

When Courtney got the No strike call is when the Aggie mob when CRAZY. Wish I would have pulled my camera but to tell you the truth I was in shock by the actions of the aggies. They were nasty!!

I went back to rewatch the game from the TV view and yeah, two identical pitches, two different calls from Keith. But, he was bad for both teams.

I noticed the calls were very inconsistent for Morgan. I was a bit P.O.'ed until I noticed the calls were just as inconsistent for the aggys. By the aggys reactions in the stands I was wondering if there would be any fights break out in the stands or outside McCombs after the game.

another interesting stat is Tennessee really only has 3 hitters that hit over 300. Kiki Malloy who’s hitting .427, Gibson who’s hitting .380 and then Puni who’s hitting .369. The next after that is Donihoo who’s hitting .284. Their hitting reminds me of OU except that with OU it’s 1-9 you have to worry about but with Tennessee it’s just 1-3 in the lineup to me. Not that the rest of the lineup is a cakewalk but you have to really be strong pitching to the first three at bats.

In looking at some of Tennessee’s losses, I was looking at the opposing pitchers. When Alabama beat them, Alex Salter pitched who’s a drop ball pitcher. She gave up 5 hits and 2 runs in 7 innings. Whenever they lost to Texas A&M, Preston pitched who is a drop ball and change up pitcher who doesn’t throw that hard. Preston pitched 6 innings and gave up 2 hits, 1 run and had 8 strikeouts. Whenever they lost twice to Arkansas it was against Camenzind and Delce who are drop ball pitchers as well. Camenzind also has a nice changeup as well. I really think if we use the right pitchers we can shut their offense down.

The only thing I’m concerned with is their pitching staff. The only time they’ve allowed a team to score more than 3 runs was when Karlyn Pickens throws and Payton Gottshall throws, they’ve have allowed questionable and not so good teams score many runs on them. Only once has the ace Ashley Rogers gave up 3 or more runs in a game. I know everyone is counting Texas out but I honestly believe we have a chance at this.

I don’t think Mac pitched that poorly other than a couple of pitches. And of course those 2 were big ones. Especially the 3 run blast.

The good thing is even if we don’t win today is that Rogers pitch count is high and I think Texas is starting to figure her out a bit. We lost our first super regional game last year and came out a different team the next two games so let’s hope that’s the case again.

As expected, we just couldn’t stop the top 3 in the order. 4 of the 5 RBI’s were from Kiki Malloy and Zaida Puni, 2 of 3 Tennessee players hitting over .300.

on the bright side, this was the most hits Ashley Rogers has given up in one game this year. We outhit Tennessee 8-7 and lost 2-5. Just couldn’t bring those runs in and left too many on base. Considering she is their best pitcher, I like our chances in Game 2. And possibly even game 3 even if we see Rogers again.

TN had 4 straight hits capped by the homer
Probably would’ve been a good time for a pitching change at that point. White does tend to leave his pitchers in one batter too late at times. Or so it seems.
Hopefully Texas jumps on them early and holds on for the win to force a game three.
I like our chances.

I thought Mac was fine, she hung in there against a very good offensive team. Not showing up in the RISP department hurt us. I liked the fight they showed and the fact that there was no quit. No matter what happens in this series the program is so headed in a good direction. Excited about the future.

The damage was done in the 2nd inning and most of the hits were from TN batters 2st at bat.

this is the lineup I like! Dayton and Scott should make some serious trouble. Let’s get it done!!

I hope I’m wrong but this comes across desperate to me. Goode at 1B? An unseasoned SS?

I think I would’ve rather had Corona if we were going to do a whole new lineup.
